How you guys feeling about pro gamers? Will they switch to bwr?
What are your prediction about what will happen to sc2 proscene when bwr comes out?

Yes totally, i havent play this game for 7 years but it's only about graphics !
Seriously, you should ponder ...

How you guys feeling about pro gamers? Will they switch to bwr? The guys who are succesful in sc2 certainly won't switch.
What are your prediction about what will happen to sc2 proscene when bwr comes out? Blizzard still supports WCS and GSL until at least 2018. We'll see what happens then but I think as long as the current generation of pros still plays it the interest to watch tournaments will be there.

Yeah if they dont fix sc2. its clearly in a bad state where turtling into strong units is the case for 2 races.

They are two both diffrent RTS, brood war hits my taste way way more, defo gonna play bw, well i already am

come play 3v3 hunters on bnet it all works better now

Why do you have to "switch" ? I actually wanna play both games because both games have different qualities and problems. I only answered here because i like your signature

I will try Remastered...but i will stick with sc2.

There really isn't though. I am getting the SC:R but beyond a lick of paint and Blizz official ladders there isn't much to get excited about apart from bringing back a bigger community to a classic.

i don't really play all that much starcraft any more, but when i do, it'll probably be both games

Will only play the campaign, not multiplayer.

I have to question people's thought process when they ignore how huge the upgrade to modern resolutions is to the game as a whole. Your three options for playing now are using an old monitor, playing in stretched fullscreen that looks terrible and makes mouse control horrid or playing in a tiny window. All of those options are completely unacceptable for such a high profile game. I wouldn't tolerate it playing Doom or Quake and I don't see a reason for it being deemed acceptable here.

Brood War is fun to play because of the nostalgia factor - but since I started playing SC2 and am way more into competitive gaming, I'm going to want to get really good at BW - and then it will be frustrating because of extremely poor mechanics.
|
I will probably play both. This emphasis everyone always puts on 'switching' games is weird to me.

Ye, "I will abandon sc2" looks too extreme,it's not as if they wanted to become pro ..
|
I will switch but that does not mean I will leave SC2 completely. SC2 has some good things as well. I see them more as two very different games but BW has a special place in my heart
|
I haven't played sc2 in a year I think and have been playing BW for the past few weeks and having a blast. To be fair I played SC2 for almost 5-6 years and broodwar I only played for 9 months. Dunno if I will ever come back to sc2 but I can't wait for remastered, specially the HD sprites/resolution.
|
I will probably just play old BW if some guys ask me for games in it. I will continue SC2 until WC4 comes out. I think this is overly hyped, if your only in it for the graphics, then why would you care. SC2 looks just as good and if you don't care about the graphics then why didn't you continue playing BW?
|
Depends if the remaster will let me remap the hotkeys. I played a few games of bw with the new patch and my hands/wrist immediately started cramping up after 20 minutes due to the crazy hotkey combinations. My hands aren't what they used to be when I was a teenager.
|
Will the hotkeys and ctrl groups work like the original?
|
Not at all. But I may try the original one if it becomes free.
|
I will play the campaign over and over for sure :D ! But multiplayer wise I really enjoy SC2 way more .
|
On May 19 2017 02:40 lorestarcraft wrote: Will the hotkeys and ctrl groups work like the original? The hotkeys will be customizable when the HD will be released. No other changes (still 12 units / 1 building per group).

I'll still tune into sc2 as a spectator. Will only come back to playing if the game gets the overhaul it needs.

I don't think everyone saying they'll switch is even an SC2 player. I bet some inactive people and people from http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/ came over and voted for that. Anyway, it's not going to be an easy switch. And it's kind of extreme to already be thinking you'll be dropping SC2 and not just checking out BW and deciding then. On the other side of the coin, the people saying they won't even check it out are being a bit unadventurous. You should at least play the campaigns if you can afford it. By the end of the campaigns, you'll have some comfort with the game and could play a few multiplayer matches.

I'm very happy with sc2 and I don't want to spend money

There are some reasons why I stopped playing BW. I think SC2 is a great game and wanted to focus all my gaming time on that.
The reason I came back is because now I don't need to install a bunch of add ons just to be able to play. I just install BW, launch BW and I can play on Fish or the normal servers without issues. Latency is better and of course soon there will be match making which will be awesome.
But I don't think anybody playing sc2 currently is going to decide "With Remastered out no more sc2!!!". Maybe some will, but a majority will play for a few days and then go back to sc2 would be my guess. If this had come out anytime before 2016 I know I would have played for a few days and gone back to sc2.
|
Probably not, I love and play both games currently, so I'll likely just end up playing BW a bit more than I do right now.

I will definitely play the campaign, probably some multiplayer as well. "Switching" feels like something a progamer would say. I just play games for fun, so yeah I will be bouncing between SCR and SC2 I have a feeling.
|
No I stick with Starcraft 2.
Brood War has a really awful interface and bad pathfinding. I rather fight my opponent then the game.
|
I haven't played much sc2 lately but will definitely try bw remastered!

Tried to play BW again for a couple weeks but it didn't do anything for me (figuratively and literally when I tried to move my units).
I'm an sc2 guy through and through.

I am not playing SC2 since end of WoL. When remastered hits I will start playing BW again. But it wont be a sport for me anymore like in my young years, just a hobby
|
I used to play SC BW when I was just a kid (elementary school) and that's when my love for SC universe started. The game itself brings back some great childhood memories. However, I'm not coming back to it. SC2 is way better in my opinion. SC BW, no matter how many remasters they try to pull off, it always looks outdated to me. The game may bring back some nostalgic feelings from the past but excitement? Definitely not.

That poster is being a bit of an ass, but is kind of right. I can only speak for EU, but there was a number of more popular RTS games back in the day, at least for multiplayer. I am from the UK like you, honestly how often did you encounter someone who played BW online compared to say Wc3, AoE2 or a C&C game? BW has had real lasting power though along side Aoe2. I suppose the Korean pro scene has had a lot to do with that. Seeing people so enthused and taking a game to ridiculous levels can keep people's interest in a game, even if playing is becoming tiresome.
|
I've played SC2 for 7 years straight but I've dropped it a month ago in favour of BW. I don't care about the remastered graphics,I'm waiting for the matchmaking to start playing it seriously though. Korean sc2 players won't switch entirely to BW until Blizzard continues to throw money in the scene. The day Blizz stops to sponsor GSL,KR won't have enough money to support it and the competitive game will die completely here. Instead I think sc2 players in foreignland won't never ever switch:BW is too hard and quite impossible to catch up with players who have been played the game for decades.
|
I'll pay attention to Brood War and the scene, but I think I'll focus my time actually playing SC2. I feel thats where the playerbase is going to be.
|
the idea that SC2 players are waiting to quit and "go back" to BW is like something BW elitists would dream up in their heads
even the way this thread is phrased is intentionally provocative of the debate no one cares about

i loved playing UMS back in the day
if they bring back LOTR, and the various RPGs, the Impossible Missions maps (where you team up and have levels where you have to micro together to win), evolves, devolves, then hell yeah i'm switching
edit: sorry switching implies that i still play sc2, which i haven't in forever. not fun. but i do spectate. so i'll still spectate GSL until the scene dies
|
"switch".. why cant you just play something for fun? why does it have to be one or the other?
you dont need to be a super competitive bw player to enjoy the game. hop on and play ums's, observe games, play 2v2/3v3/4v4 hunters, play money maps like bgh/fastest, theres plenty of things to do.

I downloaded BW after it becamse F2P with 1.18 and played it after about 7-8 years. Completed Episode 1-3 campaigns and found that I'm so much better than the game than I was 15 years ago when I first attempted to play the campaigns haha.
I'll probably get Remastered and play the campaign through (1-3 again as well) but that might be it for me. Maybe do some custom games with friends for some vs AI, but I highly doubt I'll play player vs player.

Played sc2 since WOL till LOTV this year, never played broodwar before only wc3 and AoE, C&C. With the beginning of april (2017) I started to play broodwar and that game blows my mind. I like the units, pathfinding, mechanics and it is way more difficult and you can hate yourself very much and more than in sc2, I like this. In the beginning I struggled with finding my enemy on python cause I thought it is designed like fighting spirit, my scv is so dumb that he needs my brain to find the ramp. Now I like bw more because I know sc2 in and out and will not play it for the next months + I like the graphics in BW
|
I was so frustrated while ranking up on sc2, because it was so difficult. BW is far more hard so probably i will switch for fun only. I won´t invest the same amount of time for BW i spent on WOL/HOTS/LEGACY
|
Probably only a handful of Toss players in the world either want to play SC 2 or have reason to. Play a two race game? Play a game that is viewed as inferior? Play a game that has done nothing but decline? I can't even imagine how bad numbers for SC 2 will be after Remastred comes out. I don't see how it's even worth pondering playing SC 2. I just view it as a family member that died years ago. I don't even understand the question. It's 6 feet under, you know? I wouldn't even bother to give flowers. Nothing positive to say other than it no longer exists.

Well they said they posponed it, it might come back. If Blizzard ditches it completely, it is a total nobuy for me as well. No nostalgia can justify this in 2017, as well as there is no advantage of it (you still have to press the damned buttons yourself, custom keys wont magically help you beat better players)

That might be one of the most uninformed and stupid answers I have seen on TL for a long time.
Especially saying this on a BROODWAR forum (which is what TL was created for), is just utterly ridiculous.
I enjoyed SC2 for few thousand games, but haven't played at all since LotV came out (except the campaign, which I didn't even finish because I got bored af).
Broodwar I have played much more, for much longer, with much more enthusiasm. So yeah... absolute no brainer for me.

Nope

It depends on whether or not I can adjust all my hotkeys(including control groups). 7 years of custom SC2 hotkeys can't be easily forgotten.
I want to, but it depends on that. Otherwise it'll probably be neither.

Maybe it's the SC2 vs BW megathread that Wrath has been dreaming of all this time.
Anyway, BW is annoying to play for me since I got used to all the luxuries of SC2 and no amount of fancy graphics is going to change that.
Not that I play anything lately since my muscles decided that they don't like being asked to do too many things in a short timespan, it's just not pleasant ...

Yea. I agree with this. All of these people who keep thinking they're going to switch will give it a shot, and then just come back to SC2 because 50% of BW is playing vs. the interface.
|
I don't understand how BW is a better game. It's a different game, but it's a game of fighting the UI and AI. SC2 is much more about strategy and mental strength to success at the top. They appeal to different players. I prefer SC2, but again, I've not played in a while because of RL. I'll check out BW remastered, but there won't be a 'switch'
|
Never played BW. Having only played games from the last 5 years or so its very difficult to get into. From an interface/visual standpoint at least. If I wanted to play BW I'd just play Starbow.
Than being said I'm still gonna remastered to see what the fuss is about

Yea. I agree with this. All of these people who keep thinking they're going to switch will give it a shot, and then just come back to SC2 because 50% of BW is playing vs. the interface. You are always playing "against the interface" in any videogame ever. I obviously know what you mean, yes bw requires a lot of tasks which are not there in sc2. But even in sc2 you "play against the interface" a lot, in reality that's exactly where the fun is coming from. You cannot simply tell your marines to split, you actually have to do that manually and each time you do it well it feels great. Same with lots and lots of other things. I will be honest, i cannot understand people who mention this all the time. For the most part you can play bw easily and the units also do what they should do. Yes sometimes here and there the pathing will make units act "stupidly" but at the same time this pathing also allows for great army engagements. There are strengths and weaknesses here. This "bw is just fighting against the ui" is just as wrong as people saying "in sc2 there is one big fight then it's over" Just to be clear once more, both games are different enough that i don't see why you wouldn't play both if you enjoy both enough. Both games can be fun and both games can be frustrating.

There is this great balancing factor in scbw: If your army is large, it gets clumsy (especially casters), making smaller armies relatively better than the big ones. This is the one thing that makes scbw so entertaining to watch for me, its usually more about small skirmishes and spreading your army to hold key areas rather than sitting with 2 naturals claiming 200/200 at 12minutes.
Then again my opinion might be biased because i haven't watched or played sc2 in years, just the bw games.

Yea. I agree with this. All of these people who keep thinking they're going to switch will give it a shot, and then just come back to SC2 because 50% of BW is playing vs. the interface. You are always playing "against the interface" in any videogame ever. i don't know if you can say that about games like Space Invaders and Asteroids. Space Invaders is 3 buttons. Left, Right, Fire.

Well that's a good example then, when you cannot even move up/down I mean ofc it's different there, but to some extent you always battle the ui/controls, because that's the only way humans can interact with the game. That might change in the future. And i definitely can see that bw is frustrating to play when you are used to modern games. I think that "battling the ui" is actually what creates the fun though, both in sc2 and bw.

I'll check out BW remastered, but there won't be a 'switch' why do you think there is more strategy in SC2? I see the opposite, even if BW has some strategic limitations I find games to be a lot more varied in general, more phases, less all ins & volatility, more details, more tactics which synergizes with strategy, more varied economy system, much better race and unit design with less hardcounters (so more strategic possibilities), etc I understand people would get annoyed with BW interface, and some pathfinding rough edges, but overall.. the pathfinding gives much better results in BW so.. I would say in SC2, the pathfinding has less flaws but also less qualities. I think you should just try playing fun games in bw, you will see the value.

This poll is for sc2 players , but bw players cant help but bring their rancor, kinda sad because now the poll is useless thank you bw apologist again
I don't think sc2 players come to your forum and act like it , even if you are overall older i can't see it

Will check out for sure. Sorry I'm a bit out of the loop, do we have a release data for this?

I don't think sc2 players come to your forum and act like it , even if you are overall older i can't see it didn't vote in the poll^^ i "switched" backed to BW after playing around 300 games first months of WoL what you call rancor may also just be honest opinion

+ fun fact, I saw a lot of " omg bw so good dl it " on reddit when blizzard gave a dl link for the' beta', like almost all the sc subreddit was about bw, but games/day haven't dropped of 0.5% according to rankedftw.
So they spam it but they are not sc2 ladder players , I feel bad for them. ( but they feel really secure then rofl )

Depending on the replay system I might switch, but I suspect we won't get any replays since most of the matches will be korean. If so I probably won't.

Have you even made it out of Diamond in SC2? You're definitely not using the same handle ingame as you are here or on reddit. Anything to hide?
Not sure what all your ranting is supposed to achieve anyways. You are just bitching about BW and its players, but honestly I think you probably haven't even played any.
Take me for an example... I used to play BW for about 10 years - was super stoked when SC2 came out. Switched straight away, played around four thousand games of SC2 in a year or two, but haven't played in the last 3 years, because I think the game is boring and it just didn't grip me anymore. Played about 4k hours of Dota 2 though. And now I have started to play a bunch of BW again.
In your BW hating world, am I allowed to vote here?

Already switched I guess. I really only loved WoL and maybe Hots. I lost interest in SC2 during 2014 and have only been playing on and off since then. While LOTV may be objectively better, I honestly don't enjoy playing it. So during the ASL Season 2 hype I figured that I might as well start to play BW, I always wanted but was never really able to get into it. The remastered announcement is a nice addition for sure, but I'd be playing BW over SC2 without it.
Oh also I only learned about Starcraft from MLG in 2010, so I never played BW before SC2.
|
Worth noting, everyone I know that prefers BW played it first. I have buddies that have only played games from the last 5 years or so that say stuff like "brood war is boring" or "you can barely tell the units apart" etc even though they all have sc2

You are so offensive because you know I'm right.
And nop, you are not allowed to vote because you stopped sc2 3 years ago. So it's not a switch or something.
I guess you are bad at mathematics because you logic isn't a thing.

Well no you already abandonned sc2 3 years ago, so it got nothing to do with the remaster, so no you should not vote it only false the result of the pool...
Apart from that personally I am gonna stay with sc2, I know BW is great and all but I just never manage to get hooked.

Yeah I do not buy in to that post in regards to high level play. I tend to agree for the majority of players adopting a strategy in Sc2 beyond initial build orders, or just about any popular recent game for that matter, is more possible and rewarding. I haven't heard that much for either side from high level players tbh. As no Korean pros are likely to chime in on this thread unless someone levelheaded and honest like NonY gives a breakdown on higher level play from both games then I think we will be none the wiser.

Erroneous hunches are my favorite.
I've been getting back into SC2, but I plan to swap completely to Brood War.

If there is a proper matchmaking/ladder in BW Remastered, I will probably play. But it doesn't mean I'll stop playing SC2.

Ah yes, if one is kinda beginner in BW it's hard to play the strategy part because their control messes them up the most. But then after when you are at least decent, strategy is important and it's imo much more prevalent than in SC2. (Basically you just need to have more than 150APM (and know where to use them)). Don't need to be a pro a top euro for that, there are plenty of unknown good players, I'm no pro myself but good and I can tell. Btw I think someone who's good in SC2, they can jump the control barrier in BW rather quickly, just the frustration part in the beginning for trying to win 1v1s without the knowledge is tough, so I think playing fun games first is good~

This thread is so pointless now, it was originally about whether SC2 players will switch to Brood War or not but ended up being a good ol' discussion about SC2 vs. BW again... way to go TL. Also people not playing SC2 for years say they will switch... no, it's not called "switching".
And BW people coming to vote "BW > SC2" under disguise of the first option is the most hilarious thing here.

How could this not turn into a BW vs SC2 thread lol. The original topic is as close as you can get to BW vs SC2 without technically being such.

You could also say that the only people who prefer SC2 are ones who aren't familiar with BW. From what I've seen almost everybody who's familiar with both games thinks that BW is better,

I will be switching for sure, I left BW when WOL Beta arrived, but now it is time to go back to the Holy land. Who's coming with me? ^^
|
Nope, I've finished sc1/bw campaign years ago and I don't plan to play multiplayer, so I won't even buy it.

Hahahaha people mad because people who ACTUALLY PLAY bw votes, wow.
sc2 aint ded bcuz of us guyz
