The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of an Absolute Legend.
"Music's exclusive function is to structure the flow of time and keep order in it." - Igor Stravinsky
"I've never seen such timing, such precision, such masterful control before. What happened to him and when is it over?"-irl friend on Ma Jae Yoon.
Dominance in C Minor The Maestro walks onto the stage, spotlight in his eyes, absorbing the vibrations of an excited crowd. His tuxedo is sharp, the words CJ Entus gleaming off his sleeve. He takes a bow. "An original composition," He informs the crowd, "ZvT in F Minor." The crowd roars, this song is a hit. It's 2006 and The Maestro, Ma Jae Yoon is the best progamer in the world.
From a seat in the audience once could see the cool confidence of this young Maestro. Contrary to the decorum of an opera hall, hundreds of girls scream. "MA JAE YOON HWAITING!". Indeed, he is a superstar, the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart of his generation. He has the bravada and the skill required to be the deity of this art, and he earned every bit of credit he gets.
The Maestro, Ma Jae Yoon at the height of his fame.
He raises his baton and begins the music. The tempo is quick, the movements are sharp and precise. The song paints a picture of domination and complete victory, and as the conductor waves his baton with a confident smirk, the world of e-sports lives with fear in its heart. Nothing could stop Ma Jae Yoon, it seemed his dominance would continue forever. No match-up was weak. When he waved his baton, the zerglings played their flutes, and the lurkers played their trumpets, and the sounds of the apocalypse strewed forth.
The movements invoked emotions in the heart of fans that could not be described. At the end of the performance he is showered with adoration. Returning to his home, he lies awake in his bed. "This is what is feels like to be the best.". Ma Jae Yoon knows who he is, and is ready to take on anything. The power of his music is unlike any force that has ever existed in the game.
He had dethroned the kings of yesteryear, and no-one could call him anything less than "Ma Bonjwa". It seemed like years since BoxeR, NaDa, and iloveoov controlled the scene. For the first time ever, Zerg were in control. And they had an emperor of their own. Hell's orchestra was playing the dirge of every gamer who would dare have the audacity to challenge the might of the swarm.
Be afraid, sAviOr is coming; and the only thing he's gonna save is the swarm
+ Show Spoiler +Ma Jae Yoon: At the Top From 2005-2007, no name struck fear in the hearts of men like that of sAviOr. He was the best damn player on earth, with 3 MSL titles and an OSL victory under his belt, who could stop him? Domination...Well, there was one guy who thought he could....
The Revolution
Who dares challenge "The Maestro"?
There's a new composer in town. His name is Kim Taek Yong, and his concerts are starting to draw more attendees. Our beloved Maestro, Ma Jae Yoon just doesn't seem to compose like he used to. This younger generation, spearheaded by the protoss Bisu are getting all the attention. However, Ma Jae Yoon remains one of the best among the composers, and sits firmly upon the zerg throne. It's discouraging, but what could stop him for good?
Surely he could hold onto his dominance, and boy did he try. Furiously writing songs and performing at every venue he could, there was no effort spared. But the harder he pushed, the harder things seemed to push back at him. It was the image of Taek Yong. It haunted him; and if he couldn't conquer his own ghosts, he could never conquer the world like he did once before.
Ma Jae Yoon soon finds his concerts getting bad reviews, and Taek Yong begins drawing more and more attendees every show. Jae Yoon is discouraged, and tries writing again. However, his muse is lost! He cannot find the inspiration to write like he used to. The raw emotion and passion of his youth had faded, and the distraction of competitors was taking its toll. He couldn't deal with the stress, and decided to take in an apprentice to continue his craft.
+ Show Spoiler +Ma Jae Yoon: StagnationThese videos should be a familiar sight to any StarCraft fan. The infamous 3-0 defeat of sAviOr in the 2007 GomTV MSL. The games speak for themselves. This is the beginning of stagnation, but rock bottom has yet to occur...
The Legend Killer
Is he the one to lead the swarm?
It's late 2007 and Ma Jae Yoon grows worried about his falling ability. "Why can't I write a good song?" he asks himself. The growing ability of his young apprentice, Lee Jae Dong worries him. Still a young boy, Jae Dong composes with the same fire and zeal Jae Yoon had only months before. Why couldn't Jae Yoon do anything right? His seat on the Zerg throne was slipping, and he knew that the day when his apprentice took up the position grew nearer. He slips deep into a depressive slump, not composing anything. Allowing the rage to build inside of him.
The fans have all but given up on him. The loyal men who remember the days in which Ma Jae Yoon stood proudly upon the mountain of gods, waving his silver baton at the weak mortals who dare challenge him remember his potential. They remember that this was a man who had much more than just skill. What he had was magic. But the void in their hearts grew, and thus their faith in him was less. It seemed it could not get any worse.
But it did. Along with his demotion to B-Team, sAviOr did not even qualify for the starleagues in 2008-2009. With nothing televised for a while, fans could not even hear even the worst of his compositions. The Maestro was out of the light and one could seemingly rest assured that all hope was lost. The era of "Ma Bonjwa" was over.
Wiping his hands, getting ready for another defeat.
+ Show Spoiler +Ma Jae Yoon: Rock BottomLosing games left and right, sAviOr is but a husk of the dominator he was before. Humiliated not only be constant losses, but by demotion within his own team, it seemed that the once undisputed StarCraft King, would never return. Being humiliated by the likes of firebathero doesn't help much either.
Brilliance Regained Much to the surprise of everyone, Ma Jae Yoon has been writing a new symphony these days. A symphony that encompasses the fury and passion of his youth, and the intensity of his current despair. After losing so much, he would finally manifest his desire, his passion, and emerge as a victor over his own demons. He begins the performance of this symphony in Germany, and the crowd was stunned. The are whispers in the halls. "Is he back?", "The Maestro?". While The Maestro continues performing, even now, what may be his final and glorious masterpiece, he leaves us with a few words that can only signal a return to his former brilliance.
Pleased with his performance, Ma Jae Yoon projects the same cool confidence he did in 2006.
"I will destroy everyone, ok? In 2009."
Coda Ma Jae Yoon has a fantastic story, but it isn't over. The brilliant pied piper of the swarm lived at the top of a mountain of dominance and tragically fell to the bottom. He is a man who captured the hearts of fans around the world and while he showed disappointing signs of defeat, his determination is bringing him back full circle.
In the end, how will we remember Ma Jae Yoon? As the brilliant maestro who came out of a tough period stronger than he started. No matter where he is, or how he's doing. No matter if StarCraft is still played on this earth. He is and always will be "Ma Bonjwa".
A man stands alone, in his conquest, in his brilliance, and in his fame. Ma Jae Yoon has it all.
+ Show Spoiler +Thanks to DJ for making the banner, and to sAviOr for inspiring a generation of gamers.

He did! Bisu digged the hole and tossed Savior down there. And FBH filled it.

Nice man, loved it
|
|
Well, Ma Jae Yoon and Kim Taek Yong are friends (if I've heard right), but Bisu[shield] did end sAviOr[gm]'s feeling of dominance in his best MU. Confidence is everything in a bonjwa, so . . .
|
Thanks everyone.
I'm surprised about all the positive feedback.
^^ I have another article in the works, but I wonder how I'm going to format it differently than this one. I guess there's no point in fixing what ain't broken.

I never get tired of hearing about Savior, my Ma Bonjwa. Thank you doctor!

I honestly can't explain how great this is. Thanks

I really liked your writing style. Good job!

Savior has been around forever, everyone tends to forget that he used to play by the name of IPXzerg. Even when he was a B zerg at best I still loved to watch him because he'd occasionally snipe a top SKtelecom terran with unexpected wins.

Superb read, makes me clamor even more for our Mozart to return.

I wanted to write a post like this for savior but I dont have the ability. I'm glad you made it, because there is absolutely no doubt in my mind how savior will destroy everyone. It's plain to see from each and every one of the games he plays now
|
As everyone else has said, awesome read!! I was confused though, I clicked on the link thinking of Megadeth (awesome too) only to find Savior I hope he's really back. Killing is his business.... and business will be good!

That was an awesome read. I have always and still believe that our Maestro will return. Somehow...

I thought savior said at blizzcon, i will destroy everyone in 2009. right now he already got raped...

what, by yarnc?
This is a transition period, I don't think anyone is feeling down about him for losing to a great ZvZ.
He beat Midas, so that's pretty cool. He's no chump.

Didnt july dominate for like a decent length of time? I would like to pose that question to the accuracy of the article.

Yeah, but not enough to be considered Bonjwa.
BoxeR, NaDa, oov, and sAviOr are considered the "bonjwas". I don't feel Bisu was dominant enough to be Bonjwa, and July wasn't either.
But they were both close.

Very nice article. Well written.

Great read Is the song thats playing in that first video at the beginning the actual song played for the tournament? Saosin is awesome Definitely going to show this article to some of my friends (who also play, dont worry), very well done!

I really liked the opening part, it seemed to to me falter a bit after that, but decent nonetheless.
Also, Jaedong as his apprentice? I mean, I know Jaedong essentially succeeded him as the best zerg in the world, but they weren't connected at all except for both being awesome zergs were they?
I can't wait to see what Savior does when he "comes back". I hope he really and truly comes back with some revolutionary play or something, and not just come back with great mechanics and psychology. That's assuming he comes back at all though, he could pull a Garmito.

read the TLFE "Heir Apparent" for more about the relationship between Jaedong and sAviOr.

July did hold KeSPA #1 for eleven straight months opposed to Saviors nine. However somehow ChoJJa was #1 many of the months sAviOr should have been #1 on the rankings back in 2006.
July is an extremely consistent tournamentplayer - he has played in every OSL since his royal road in Gillette except the Daum OSL which he missed. He has played 117 OSL matches thus far, reached 5 finals and won 3 of them, and I think(not 100% sure) he has now passed BoxeR in total number of OSL matches. Like his fellow gold-mouse companion he also won the prestigous KT-KTF tournament which makes me consider him more accomplished than sAviOr.
However as much as I love July he wasnt as dominant as sAviOr at his peak. sAviOr in 2006 is like Oov in 2004, NaDa in mid 2002 early 2003, and BoxeR in 2001. There was no way they were the underdog in any BO5 those years. July was kindof sharing his prime as #1 together with Oov, much like YellOw with BoxeR except July won titles.
July can be placed in another category though, the ones who slayed the beasts and showed it's possible to beat them in a BO5. That group consist of GARIMTO, Nal_rA, July, and Bisu.
EDIT Boxer has 132 OSL matches, that's 15 more than July.
Yellow has 134!

why are all newcomers to this site necromancers of old and dead threads? Besides how is it so sad? i 100% support what all those players did.

Stop with gravedigging old threads. We know that these players were match fixers. No need to beat on a dead horse.

Perhaps the OLD POST notice should go on top of the posts as well as under them.
EDIT: That doesn't make sense, what I mean is that it should be displayed above the OP.

4 posts, lazy writting(EaSL is no excuse for this), no real content or spelled out point of view while necroing old threads. This forum isn't B-net or 4chan, please keep that in mind. We have had a tonne of necros recently, a large portion being old savior/other match fixer threads praising and speculating about them, this one did nothing other's didn't do, and it did it worse.

I'm not disgusted by the match-fixing. I just don't care about professional brood war nearly as much as I used to.

I 100% support it. If i were those players i would have done the exact same thing. Those 'progamers' are nothing more than slaves. They are corporate lap dogs that get paid jack shit unless you name is boxer, flash, jaedong. The entire e-sports industry is build form the ground up to capitalize on the hopes and dreams of young players. The big name corps are taking all the money- and it's un-fair to the players. So yes i would match fix- because the working conditions of the players is absolutely disgusting. I would have done the exact same thing- just to spit in the face of kespa, and all the other mega corps that make a killing off of young kids.
