The linked website is in Korean.
As GOMTV announced 2011 plan in Dec, GSTL will take place in Feb right after GSL Season 4.
8 teams will compete for 15,000,000 KRW (about $13,000 USD). Teams are chosen based on all the points added by how many GSL Code S / A players belong to the team.
A Code S player adds 1.6 point, while a Code A player generates 1 point.
The 8 teams are below.
oGs (Code S: 8 players, Code A: 3 players) = 15.8 point
Prime (S: 6, A: 5) = 14.6
ZeNex (S: 3, A: 6) = 10.8
fOu (S: 3, A: 3) = 7.8
TSL (S: 4, A: 1) = 7.4
StarTale (S: 1, A: 4) = 5.6
IM (S: 2, A: 2) = 5.2
Slayers (S: 2, A: 2) = 5.2
And the 9th
Liquid (S: 1, A: 1) = 2.6
11th
EG (S: 1, A: 0) = 1.6
ST_Torch is the only foreign player in GSTL (only if he stays in Korea in Feb).
Also, Code A preliminary registration for GSL Season 5 will be open Jan 12 - 16.
2.5 hrs left for GSL today. gotta kill some time :D
|
wow this is going to be awesome!
|
|
That is a cool way of picking which teams get to play. I like that a lot. Hope TSL does well.
|
hmm, so they arent counting ogs and liquid as one clan. Kinda disappointing.
|
Aww, I saw the title and thought that they'd add 2v2 Tournaments or something. D: Oh well.
oGs fighting!
|
Should be interesting, too bad Liquid or EG didn't make the cut. Well that is what happens when you have very little players participating.
Going to make it easier to pick my favorite team though :D as I can watch the whole team fight for a single goal instead of a team mates facing off against each other :C

No worries! TL will have more points after GSL4! =)
|
Proleague 2? A most excellent addition to SC2.
|
Heard about this already. I am disappointed it is not an invitational, or a little larger than 8 teams. But I have to admit that the system they use is both easy and fair. It is completely objective and yet they don't have to spend any energy on qualifiers.
Our players are going to work their ass off to get us enough points to make it in! It won't be easy but it's not impossible either.

That's what we wanna hear!
I'm really rooting for Haypro this season, I hope he shows what he can really do. Jinro has already proved that he is so good, let's see some TL Zerg action!
TL FIGHTIIIIIIIIING!

start stealing players then drop em later

11st?
I cannot wait for this! Another reason to stay up at weird hours in the night! :D
|
While I'm not too clear on the format, I hope Tester/SKS comes out and roll everyone like he did in that other non-GSL tournament.
|
pretty disappointed that the Proleague is so small and obviously not the main event.
hopefully that will change.
|
I thought oGs-TL were doing team leagues together like before. What changed?
|
lol ZeNEX placing higher than TSL/ST/IM despite having mostly garbage players fair system anyway
|
I really wish they would have a proleague on the side while having these other tournaments... Should be fun non the less and can only pray its not winners league so sick of that right now
|
Any chance of this including some 2v2 action?

Huh, does anyone know why the GSL is differentiating between oGs-TL, maybe I have misheard, but I seem to recall either from Liquid players or maybe (maybe being the key-word) it was from Spunky that oGs-TL compete in the various smaller team leagues in sKorea as a single entity.

Why doesn't team EG and team liquid merge? We need all the good foreigners who actually have a shot in korea on the same team imo.
|
oh sorry I forgot I was online, Just drooled all over my keyboard
|
So is this going to be like Proleague for SC2? I find team formatted tourneys a lot more exciting than individual leagues. And of course, TEAM LIQUID` FIGHTING!
|
so this is in addition to next months regular code S/A stuff?
|
It's a surprise for me that they exactly decided to cut it off at 8 teams exactly, but one has to accept the fact that the point difference between the 8th (Slayers) and 9th (Liquid) is big - Slayers have twice the points TL accumulated.
Another big surprising news to me is the small prize pot. $13,000 is a decent sum, but it's not even a fraction of what GSL1-3, and GSL4 have been.
|
expect teams to get really big now

The same reason TSL and IM don't merge.. or oGs, TSL and IM dont merge.. they are separate teams.. once the EG house gets up it will be great to have a diverse range of foreigners in korea.. all in good time

Here's hoping that Team Liquid becomes the first foreign team to frequent a Korean Proleague tournament. It is certainly possible considering the immense talent on TL.net.

Also, can anyone think of any legit Korean teams besides the top 8 already here?

Correct me if I'm wrong but they seem to count Loner as part of Prime as no matter how I tried I just couldn't name 5 A class players for them, without him.
|
eh this seems fair only if you limit the number of players which will be counted. Let's say the system counts the top 8 players in the clan. Otherwise, theoritically some teams will qualify because they have 50 players and 10 of those are in code S and A ( 20 percent), while a team might miss out because it has only 8 members but all 8 are in code S and A.
On the actual league, wouldn't only 5 people be able to play per match day anyway.
|
yes this is the news i wanted to hear, can not wait i really hope that TL can blitz it out in the next few months and get us in the top 8. really hope to see TL make it

On the actual league, wouldn't only 5 people be able to play per match day anyway. Theoretically this is prevented by the limit of 64 players in code S and A. a team would have to solely dominate to the extent of being unreasonably good in order to skew in this way.
for instance if a 50 player team has 10 coded then 7 other teams would have to have 10 or 9 or 8 coded players in order for a 8 member coded team to be skipped. and having 8 teams with 8-10 coded players is only possible with 8 teams with 8 coded players (64 total) which would be every coded player, thus not leaving any team out.

TL is much better than ZeNEX right now imo. I don't think that Kyrix, LiveForever and San will stay S Class for much longer, also imo HayprO is A class material and HuK&Ret are better than one fourth of S Class players (I think Haypro, HuK and ret are much better than i said they are, but still, being humble is good, isn't it?)
|
Kyrix will say S class. But i agree that LiveForever and San are not really S class standard. Teamliquid FTW! Hope Huk goes S-Class by next season!
|
Wait... so this is NOT a 2v2 tournament? Because I would pay to see that!
|
Liquids chances are hampered purely by the number of players available to them. Someone tie up TLO in a sack and ship him back to Korea. =D
EDIT: Lots of people underrating LiveForever in here
|
So even with all 4 liquid members participating in the GSL (S and A) then they still wouldn't make it in even with 2 of them in code S. SlayerS/IM needs their players demoted and then Liquid with 2 S and 2 A (gogo ret for code S) would maybe qualify for the team league!
|

Kyrix is S-class player easily. LiveForever too, but he lacks practice (his account has less played games than mine) and about San well he is kinda mediocre.
But ZeNEX isn't the only team that only has one or two great players for them and rest are quite mediocre (fOu most notably).
And Liquid just has too few players at Korea at the moment for them to make it.
|
This is stupid, if the format is BW style 4x 1v1s and 1x 2v2 then it should be limited to 6 players per team counting towards the point score. This is too arbitrary.

Hope to see Liquid in it one day.

I want Nazgul with a tophat and a monocle, perhaps even armed with a walking stick, sitting there legs crossed as the TeamLiquid guys bring down all the korean top teams.
So Liquid fighting! better have 5 in S class by next time!

Liquid has too few players overall. At least compared to teams like Prime, ZeNEX or oGs. And I agree with most of this. Except LiveForever.
About fOu, I don't think their A class or S class players deserve their spots (except Leenock and Terious, I don't want to sound like a Zerg fanboy, but neither scfOu nor thebestfOu has impressed me so far. But Terious is S class easily as well).
On January 04 2011 17:39 warcralft wrote: Kyrix will say S class. But i agree that LiveForever and San are not really S class standard. Teamliquid FTW! Hope Huk goes S-Class by next season!
HuK, Ret, HayprO have S class skills, maybe you can argue HayprO a little bit, but he's good and he'll be better. Tyler too has a good shot in A-Class. TLO could also get points for TeamLiquid, but he chose not to participate.

I agree with IM. Losira and Junwi are S Class materials. In Slayers, Jys is hands down better than some current S Class Terrans like thebestfOu or PoltPrime. Golden and NewDawn are not bad either, so it's going to be difficult for Liquid. But, it's not impossible, like Nazgul said.

Wow awesome!
Great way to give teams extra value. Also encourages players to perform well and being in Class A still means a lot to the team for GSLT.
|
Eh, I am lukewarm about the rating system. It seems to favor massive conglomerates like Zenex (lol) and Prime. Either way, I think team competition has a promising future in Starcraft. TvT always will have the potential to be boring, but the emotional connection and "narrative" that team competition brings to the table can make even the most, lackadaisical, cheesy match intense.
Get them pointz! Liquid Fighting!
|
If TLO comes back to A class, Ret and Jinro into S class, And Huk and Haypro into A class, then they will make it ^^
|
Ret will probably get S-class next season, and Jinro will probably stay in as he is probably stronger than Check (not sure about ensnare and idra though, I think they are about the same level as Jinro).
I don't think that's enough though, seeing that the Huk and Haypro aren't even in A-class yet and will have to wait for.. March?

I would love for the old proleague format to come in...
1v1 1v1 2v2 1v1 Ace
That would be amazing. I was really really bummed when the BW proleague dropped 2v2s ):

Damn it, Slayers.
Ret should make code S, Huk can probably make it into A at least, and then we need 1 or 2 more. Abduct Tyler and ship him off to Korea tbh. =[

well I'm glad TL and OGS isn't in 1 team here why? because I think that TL have what it takes to earn the points needed to make it and oppose to being a shadow of OGS I hope TLO and Nony will come to korea tho :D can't wait for the EG house in korea

|
TL should try and get some oGs players on there team, that way they can have both oGs and TL in the league.
|
Weren't there gonna be spots filled in Code S or was it A by a certain number of foreigner? Would it not be an easy way in there by just recruiting these players to either TL and/or EG to add to the numbers.
|
If TL and oGs were announced as a combined team, I think it wouldn't be too good for TL. Because people would think oGs first, then TL. Also, most players would be oGs, and that's fair in reality because they are showing better results, but TL being on its own is probably better.
|
i dont know but maybe TL can get idrA and incontrol? or conbine EG and TL?

Slayers has a team... and a clan. Boxer held an open tournament like in december or something to choose the team. So yes, Slayers has a team.
|
It will be very hard for TL to qualify. Other teams have much larger roster, and TL only has 4 people in Korea. To beat the Slayers clan, TL needs better than 2 players in code S and 2 in code A. But if Slayers grow even more, then it will even be more difficult.

I think this system is flawed. For one, what's stopping a team from recruiting an absurd amount of players to qualify? Also, team hopping. I think every team that is apart of the association should compete on equal terms.
I hope they have a roster freeze and suspension period from the League if a player is in the process of switching teams.

Same difference between let's say a guild and professional gaming team in Brood War.
Take midas[gm] for example, his guild is [gm] yet he's a pro gamer on WeMade Fox. Guild/clans are more for fun, whereas Professional teams compete in big leagues like this one and the KeSPA Pro League.

The Prime website and logo say: TL is just unlucky for not having that many players there for a long time... But they'll make it eventually! Prime is a clan with a team. Slayers is a clan NOT a team (according to boxer, since he you know created it.) Zenith is a clan and Nex is a clan but ZENEX is the team. ect.
According to the last slayers-recruitment-tourney thread, Slayers clan has a team-in-progress (they will wear 'sls' as their tag)

I hope they have a roster freeze and suspension period from the League if a player is in the process of switching teams. 1 - Money 2 - There's only 64 slots total in code S + A combined.
Team hopping could be a potential issue, but I'll assume that they aren't going to muck with things mid-league.

tears. LIQUID! came in #9 If only TLO participated in the GSL 3 and he probably woulda been code S
and Huk, or Ret got further then they probably would have gotten in.
T.T
otherwise, it sounds great

The reason GomTV wants to use blizzard maps and not custom/ICCUP maps is so people not on a team can have a way to practice, right?
By definition, everyone competing in a Team League is on a team, right?
ICCUP is due to make a "huge" announcement soonish, right?
Am I hoping in the wind, here?

any one have a link to the list of team players

Idra and all other foreigners should just play for Liquid. Team foreigners ftw.

Yeah this is a very interesting and awesome way of choosing the teams. I hope they do 2v2s in the future, it offers a unique game play- and I've noticed a lot of players with heavy game plays in the 2v2 category on battle.net

Idra can't play on TL because the players from OGS hate him.
