On Feb. 7th at 3PM KST (GMT +9), Code S Players will participate in group nominations for GSL Mar.
GSL Mar. will be the third league of 2011 GSL (Global StarCraft® II League) Tour hosted by GOM TV and Ro32 will start on Feb. 22nd. Top 8 players from GSL Jan. will be placed in groups A through H.
IMMvp will be in group A and MarineKingPrime.We will be in group H. 3rd through 8th place including LiquidJinro and EGIdrA will each get to select a group. Top 8 players will also get to choose a player they want to have in each of their groups. The selected player will then get to choose the next player to have in his group and so on until there are 4 players in each group.
The event will be broadcasted on GOMtv.net and John (Junkka) will provide interpretations.
Group A : IMMvp -> oGshyperdub -> ST_July -> oGsMC
IMMvp : I will eliminate one Terran as there are many of them
July : I wanna make this group as fun as possible (after being picked bit late)
July : When I lost I got a big shock. Since this group is already a hard one I want this group to be the death group (after picking oGsMC)
Group B : EGIdrA -> TSL_Clide -> oGsZenio -> ZeNEXByun
IdrA : I chose this group to avoid TSL_Trickster and oGsMC
IdrA : (After choosing Clide) I enjoyed having games with him last season and I want to have another fun match.
Clide : I would have picked IdrA if I was a seeder as well. I thought I couldn't put up a fight I could when I lost to him so I also wanted to play him again
Clide : Thought about picking oGsMC but I gave up as he's too strong oGsMC : (replies) Please pick me. I do not wish to team-kill. If you pick me I will pick anyone you want that is not oGs.
Clide : I also do not like team-kills happening in the same group. So I chose a Zerg from oGs (after picking oGsZenio)
oGsZenio : I really wanted to play with IdrA so I appreciate Clide for picking me. I will thank him by choosing another Terran player. (Before picking Byun)
oGsZenio : New maps are pretty decent for ZvT so I chose a terran (after picking Byun)
Group C LiquidJinro -> PoltPrime.We -> ST_RainBOw -> CheckPrime.We
Polt : I lost to Jinro before but I was playing SC2 while studying for school. This time I won't go down that easy.
Jinro : Ok, just please do not pick a protoss. (To Polt)
Polt : Having another Terran would be helpful to practise. (Picks Rainbow)
Rainbow : I thought It would be good if a group contains all Terrans and now it is looking like that and I'm glad. I've improvised my style for TvT so don't underestimate me for how I played before.
Check : I asked Rainbow to pick me. I want to beat him before I serve my military service.
Rainbow : I was actually going to pick Byun but Check asked me to pick him and even his interview says that he wants to play with me again so I picked him.
Group D oGsNaDa -> TheBestfOu -> HongUnPrime.We -> oGsTop
NaDa : Appears Naive and innocent.... (reason for picking thebest) TheBest : I'm honoured. I started to play Starcraft because of you.
HongUn : As far as I know thebest is 1st ranked in the ladder and he is playing really well not to mention NaDa is amazing. I will try to build a career like them in this group.
HongUn : I didn't get to practice with new maps much so I will pick another terran to ease up my practice. I've been bad with TvPs lately and I will try to get my confidence up (Picks oGsTOP)
TOP : I doubt whether you can get your confidence back, I will show HongUn a new play of Terran.
Group E IMNesTea -> sanZenith -> SlayerS_BoxeR -> oGsEnsnare
NesTea: I picked Group E to avoid MarineKing and IMMvP. I want to have easy games to I chose sanZenith.
San: He is right about me being easy. I don't wish to get up that far. So I will choose the strongest player for Nestea. (Replies back to NesTea)
oGsMC : Pick me. Would I be a nuclear bomb in the group? (Says to San as he thinks about who to pick)
BoxeR : I don't know why he picked me, I hope I can get through in this group. (After being picked)
San : I couldn't see a player who could defeat NesTea but you.
BoxeR : I don't think San can beat NesTea either. Ensnare and TheWinD owes me a favour (as he chooses Ensnare), I helped them to take photos with SNSD.
Ensnare : I was going to thank him for picking me.. but I don't know what to say because he mentioned about SNSD photos.. I'm lost.
Group F choyafOu -> FOXLyn -> BanBansZenith -> oGsTheWind
choya: Lyn has a nickname of Sin(=God) when others don't. So I wanted to play him (after picking Lyn)
Lyn: I'm rather sad. My name was missing from GomTV website and my nickname was misspelt. I think my reputation in SC2 scene is small. I will try harder. I am improving lately so you can count on me for a fun game. (To choya)
Lyn : I chose BanBan because we lack in mutual friends so I probably won't have a good chance to be a friend with him.
BanBan : Not a bad group to play TBH. TheWinD : I've been in Code S for a very long time now somehow. I will try my best to play good games.
Group G TSL_Trickster -> anyproPrime.We -> NsPGenius -> TSL_FruitDealer
Tester: After how I watched him play in GSL January I thought I could beat him (after picking anypro)
anypro : I did not want to play PvPs... I am bit down for being picked anypro : (after picking Genius) I've talked him few days ago and we agreed not to pick each other but since there are 2 protosses in the group already I've picked Genius)
Genius : (After being picked) Group A~D seemed easy so I was hoping to get in there. Now there are three protosses if there is any protoss left over I will pick the protoss.
Inca : (Genius asks him if it was ok for him to pick Inca) I actually like PvP's but I do not want to play them on new maps. I am not ready yet.
FD : (when Genius looks at him) I will buy you any dinner you want, please don't pick me.
Genius : Foreign fans wanted to see me play with FruidDealer at BlizzCon so I picked him (after picking FD)
FD : I didn't want to be in because Tester is in. Tester : You and I could advance together I would think.
Group H MarineKingPrime.We -> ZeNEXKyrix -> sCfOu -> oGsInCa
MKP : I wanted to play Kyrix. I thought he wouldn't be able to come up to Code S but he made it
Kyrix : I am sure that guy doesn't like me. I will make him regret.
MKP : I don't dislike you. I only wanted to play with you.
Kyrix : (after picking sCfoU) he's also terran like MKP and I think I can beat him.
sCfOu : Kyrix is still at an amateur level. sCfOu : (picks oGsInca) I wanted a good game with protoss so it's well picked. I haven't played protoss on new maps tho.
It also appears the format for Code S has changed a bit:
On February 07 2011 19:02 Liquid`Jinro wrote: Actually, GOM has changed the format; first of all, theres only 1 group stage now, and 2nd, you can never meet anyone from your group before the finals.
So as far as I remember, A1 will be on one side of the bracket and A2 on the other.
Thanks to Xeph and CanucksJC for translations before John was on air.
My money's on Idra definitely homing in on Zenio. He's stated multiple times that he believes ZvZ to be his best matchup, and he'll want his revenge after losing to him in GSL2.
IMMVP puts Hyperdub in his group... he faked that he was going to put Fruitdealer >< That got me scared for a bit = = Don't want them to be in the same group

I don`t usually watch the korean stream but the woman keeps tilting her head and raising her eyebrows when she asks a question...I`m tired but I`m finding it hilarious right now.
I need this thread, I had no idea that was Kyrix before you guys said it lol.
[01:23] <Xeph> Nestea: I don't want to meet MKP and MVP earlier [01:23] <Xeph> Nestea: So I choose Group E [01:24] <Xeph> Nestea: Now Zerg is so hard [01:24] <Xeph> Nestea: So I'm gonna keep research

Hmmm Jinro mentioned twice he doesnt want to play a protoss. Why would he say that out loud in front of all the players choosing names? I wonder if it's a devious plan of reverse psychology to get a protoss and his tvp is actually really good!

So yeah in case people have never watched BW Group nominations, its super super fun iven if you don't have translations because we have people in TL IRC helping out. They talk a lot of trash, do a lot of begging and praying, its really fun haha

Ya it seems like he should have kept that quiet, if he really didn't want a protoss in his group. Now if PoltPrime feels good against Protoss, then he is definitely going to pick a protoss...

MVP kinda laughed when Greg said he was the best Terran. Was that like a F U laugh or like a maybe-embarrassed or "flattered" laugh? I had a hard time translating it
"I picked Clide because I want to send him to the Code A/S matches"
I think an interesting mechanic will be what the follow up choices will be. an example would be if Clide picks a Zerg to be in his group so that he has a better chance that he only has to focus on one matchup.
Clide said that he would've chosen Idra if he had the chance. Grack vs Clide rivalry coming up? It would certainly be a worthy addition to the Idra vs Drewbie and Idra vs HuK rivalry.

I'm pretty sure he was laughing at what the commentator said afterwards. He said like, "So Idra thinks MVP is the best terran.... and then he beat him." (Talking about that recent ladder match between them.)

If I remember correctly, he thinks Clide is a decent terran, just not at MVP level, and he just smack talks for fun and because of Artosis hype.
Idra thinks Clide is a totally trash terran. He laughs at even the mention of his name by Artosis in any of his videos/podcasts. In the game vs Clide it was so one-sided it was actually hilarious to watch.

I am a huge streetwear nerd. I am pretty sure that those jackets arent made by UNDFTD and that they just took the logo and patched it on their jackets. If Jinro can confirm or something from the brand tab we can get this answered?
Idra picking clide was probably one of the best choices for him. Since he chose a terran that favors tvt and tvz so he doesn't have to worry about a toss in his group.

Just don't get it.
For the weaker protoss's its a guaranteed coinflip against even the best protoss's around. Meanwhile they only have to practice one matchup, not a bad deal, makes sense to me.
why would people pick good opponents for their own group? Picking someone who can beat the first seed doesn't justify adding a high caliber player to your group which you have to compete against.. Am I understanding this system correctly? Please help.

theoreitcially you want to pick opponents that give you highest chance of movingon. i wonder why they haven't picked on any of the zergs. none of zergs yet cept kyrix have been picked. are players afraid of new maps?
I think MC must have asked his former BroodWar teammate Sea for some advice, he truly is the all-star of this ceremony and he didn't even get to choose yet.
ah this is going to be the best group by far lol. I hope zenio picks mc now as he will probably still be around with everybody not wanting to face him lol.

Very true, I was kind of disappointed that they weren't gonna have swaps for this ceremony. =/
Nice, MKP picked Kyrix which is awesome, the IdrA v all group with Clide, Zenio, and insert terran that dislikes IdrA here and then a 3 protoss group lul and OMG GROUP A

July just planned his own funeral, don't really get it. Even if he wanted to prove himself, makes no sense to pick another champion in a group filled with a champion.

His GSL3 run was stopped when he hit HongUnPrime. Fruitdealer pretty much did a ton of cheese and one-base all-ins in that series, which is reasonable considering that his ZvP is weak.
lol, was actually secretly cheering for joke group of 4 gate fun... on the gosugamers and mym sites they could just troll everyone by saying ″winners genius and tester, as for the match summaries, its pvp, you know what happened″
This was damn entertaining. It also raises entertainment value of GSL alot. With some rivalries and personality when it comes to the players. More tournaments should do stuff like this.
Damn, oGs-TL had a really good selection. 9 players divided across 8 groups. Best possible is 1 group with 2 members. They got the next best thing. Awesome!

He has stated that ZvP is his worst matchup due to the state of the MU, but I have a feeling he'd say ZvT is his best matchup right now. ZvZ, at least he'll have lots of practice partners this time around (Ret? moonglade? among the other koreans he has stated are his practice partners).
FD can make it though. If Genius plays as bad as he did vs IdrA, and if IncA pulls some stupid cheese that he often does, but I think he will have a very hard time vs Tester. He only has 1 matchup and all the P's have two. Lets just hope he gets his mojo back by being the underdog like in S1... he is my favourite player in the GSL.

LOL I just realized I don't have much faith in Zerg this time around. I just hope FruitDealer gets his mojo back!
Its an opinion, you can't say he's wrong, that said I believe E is much weaker than D. Nada and Top are much stronger than everyone in group E except for Nestea. One player does not a group make.
No, my opinion is correct. Always.
In all seriousness, though, It's impossible to say which group goes where. All that is certain is group A is the best and group F is far and away the worst.
I think another thing is theres a difference on rating like, how hard it will be to get out of a group or how evenly matched up a group is, relative to how good a group is.
Group A is the best group, that said theres really not many ways that anyone BUT MC and MVP will move out of that group.
Group G on the other hand, is an extremely evenly matched up group where I could envision any combination of 2 of the 4 people to move out, but it is not a strong group. Fruitdealer had his time, as with Genius, Tester is no longer a top 5 player, and the nature of PvP allows for any of the protoss's to go 2-0 or 0-2 against the other protoss's.

I don't think Polt is and I'll eat my hat if he makes it to the ro16.
Polt has always been a decent player that didn't practice as much as most of the others. If what he said about having more time to practice was true, he could actually be someone to watch.
I'll be amused if IdrA beats Clide and Clide doesn't advance out of the group and next season the exact same thing happens. Gotta' spread the word about what happens if you release the Gracken.
edit for ps: I'm crossing my fingers for manner hatcheries.
balliest pick of the night goes to july dumbest pick - sanzenith / july trolling pick - nexgenius most hateful pick - cliide most entertaining pick - idra lol.

I don't really see how Genius' pick was trolling. He had to either choce between 4 gating all day long or not and he decided not to.
FD wanted to be put in group G, because his teammate Tester was in group F and he didn't want to face him. He offered to buy Genius lunch if he didn't pick him, but he turned him down.
A seemingly common bribe in the group ceremonies I remember Sea saying he'd buy Flash a meal if he swapped him out of one of the groups, because he wanted to keep that day open so he could go celebrate lilsusie's birthday or something like that (two MSL's ago I beleive)

well trolling for tsl I guess. i picked it because genius picked him after hearing from fruit telling genius not to pick him lol. and fd+tester's facial expression after was so bad haha
Just spent 10 mins skimming through this thread. Highly entertaining! I hope to jeebus there's a vod up at some point cause this sounds like all kinds of awesome.
in comparison.. the bottom half E F G H seems a lot easier to get to the finals than the top IMO
also.. idra will either have to face MC or MVP (unless something shocking happens in the ro32) in the RO16..which could spell disaster... same with jinro (but that depends if he wins his first RO16 match so its not as bad as Idra)

He hasn't really impressed me, the only good plays of his I've seen were one-base rushes. I think if he stays that one-dimensional, he'll be easily figured out by his opponents.

Luckily, I don't think Idra is as worried about MVP. If he can move on to the RO16 then I'm sure he'll be happy, since I think that means he'll be on code S the following season. Plus with the new maps coming out he should feel like they might be able to help out the state of ZvT more, and like I said he's done a decent enough job against top terrans lately, its the protoss's he's more worreid about.
Obviously you never WANT to go agaisnt MVP and MC, but its not the end of the world I guess.

On one hand, he did beat SlayerS_BoxeR in the GSL3, which is an impressive feat considering that TvT is Boxer's best matchup by far. Then again, Polt did get absolutely destroyed by Jinro in the next round of GSL3.
Although I haven't seen his play in GSL4, I think it will be tough for him to beat Jinro and maybe Rainbow.

Then again, it is possible that both of them will make it out of the group. Although they may not play in the Grand Finals together, there is still a chance that they will play each other again in the single-elimination stages, which means that we'll still get our fix for quite a few MC vs MVP matches that will surely be excellent.
On February 07 2011 17:00 cerebralz wrote: Group A... hooooo-ly-crap.... How did that happen...sad that between MVP, MC, and July, one is not advancing.
On the flip side though, grats to Jinro with prolly the easiest group.
So glad I watched. I lolled so hard when MC wanted to speak and said he should be picked since he could take Nestea easily.... and later my jaw dropped when July picked MC since he wanted to play him and get revenge.
Man, July was my favorite BW player and I really like MC... but there's no way MVP isn't advancing there, so that kinda bums me out..
If I had to put money on it, I'd say July still doesn't have what it takes to beat MC. Such a shame considerin groups D, F and G are looking a little weak.
I wonder what HyperDub is thinking now ... "ok, I want to play against the weakest zerg ... maybe July, he is not what he was" ... "oh f... shit what did I just do?".
group F is by far the easiest. jinros group seems doable aswell. idras group is rather hard, but so are most other groups. my predictions:
A) Mvp, MC. sry july B) Idra and... dunno C) Jinro, Check D) Top, Nada E) Nestea, Boxer F) no clue, but i predict both of those who advance from this group to get eliminated in the next round G) Fruitdealer, Tester or Genius. very hard to predict H) MarineKing, Sc
IdrA got a tough group. ZvZ is Random, Clide is pretty solid (but the weakest player in the group I think) and the Code A runner-up, I think we should not underestimate him. Hope IdrA can fight his way through.
On the other side, Jinro should not have too much problems?

How dare you call Clide worse than Byun. What is wrong with you? Clide is the best player in the world.
That guy is fearless, finding himself in the same groups as the season 4 winner he adds the season 3 winner. Balls of steel, a true fighter deciding to gun for the top players right away, that is the marks of a God of War alright.

Actually, GOM has changed the format; first of all, theres only 1 group stage now, and 2nd, you can never meet anyone from your group before the finals.
So as far as I remember, A1 will be on one side of the bracket and A2 on the other.

this is so true. Hats off to July for showing great courage.
July the sniper! Lol a lot of courage...I guess he thought to himself: If I cannot beat these guys, I shouldn't bother! Nice! I hope he 3-0's that group!
So why did July pick ogsmc?? lol. Was he forced? Or is he set out to get revenge from GSL 3!! And fruitdealer should make it through, he only has to practice 1 matchup which is a great advantage. I believe tester or genius could go either way, but if i was forced to pick i would probs go genius .

As it should be. Every tournament in the world uses this concept, except last time where it was possible to play the same guy from r32 in r8...
I translated what was posted on Korean SC2 forum PlayXP. Mind you though what has been posted on PlayXP is also a brief version. But for those of you who wants to know what happened bit sooner (before John finishes the translation) here it is.
Group A : IMMvp -> oGshyperdub -> ST_July -> oGsMC
IMMvp : I will eliminate one Terran as there are many of them
July : I wanna make this group as fun as possible (after being picked bit late)
July : When I lost I got a big shock. Since this group is already a hard one I want this group to be the death group (after picking oGsMC)
Group B : EGIdrA -> TSL_Clide -> oGsZenio -> ZeNEXByun
Group C LiquidJinro -> PoltPrime.We -> ST_RainBOw -> CheckPrime.We
Polt : I lost to Jinro before but I was playing SC2 while studying for school.
Group D oGsNaDa -> TheBestfOu -> HongUnPrime.We -> oGsTop
Group E IMNesTea -> sanZenith -> SlayerS_BoxeR -> oGsEnsnare
I'm lost.
Group F choyafOu -> FOXLyn -> BanBansZenith -> oGsTheWind
choya: Lyn has a nickname of Sin(=God) when others don't.
Group G TSL_Trickster -> anyproPrime.We -> NsPGenius -> TSL_FruitDealer
Group H MarineKingPrime.We -> ZeNEXKyrix -> sCfOu -> oGsInCa

That's awesome to hear, Jinro. Wasn't looking forward to groups A, B & C wiping each other out so quickly. Good to know! Though I don't think they've posted anything in English about it.
haha, IdrA voted Clide in his group, then Clide voted Zenio in that group so that if Idra loses, he does it against his 2 biggest rivals. That group will be very interesting, but i think Idra can make it.

Soooooo great!! Well, most of the groups, at least.
MVP vs MC dukin' it out in group A, Hyperdub and July are already out as far as I'm concerned.
IdrA has rematches with Clide and Zenio, which will def. result in hilarity, plus Byun is really impressive too. One of the most even groups in skill. Gonna be neat-o.
Jinro rematches with Polt and Check (ololol). A bit of Rainbow inbetween, but I don't like him, so he won't advance.
NaDa vs TOP is the match I really look forward to in group D, let's hope they play each other. TheBest will be outplayed, but HongUn may just advance by... well, being HongUn.
NesTea getting an easy group again...
But group F is really just full of scrubs high quality 4gaters. (group E and F will play each other after the first round, aye? So; more easy opponents for NesTea) €: Nevermind, I guess NesTea will go against group A's second, so it's either MC or mvp for him. He's dead, lol.
Tester and FD in the same group T.T I guess Genius will advance, and then either Tester or FD. Though I WANT FD and Tester to both go on. TSL bros~
MKP has a relatively easy group too, though I heard Kyrix can do something else than banelings now. sC doesn't have the macro to keep up with any of them, and InCa will probably make it out as 2nd.
Really interesting groups. This style of tournament is really great especially once we get a stacked CodeS with all great players in it. Can you imagine if Clide and IdrA keep staying in CodeS and one of them keeps advancing? They're going to be in the same group as each other for a long time!
Jinro has one of the easier groups so he definitely has a shot. I'd hate to be Slayer's Boxer right now. Not a fun group for him.
idra must be pretty confident as he didn't get any protoss in his group. jinro got a pretty easy group to make it out, check is bad, rainbow is bad, polt plays okish last couple times.
MVP, MC, July T_T. Hyperdub is dead anyway, i hope july and mc to advance, just for the shocker
tester, genius, fruitdealer group, meeeh why did this have to happen. i really like all of them D:
Nice groups, one can already see that GSL is getting tougher, there are only a few players left that could be considered subpar. Also good groups for Idra and Jinro, I can see them both advancing again. I don't think Boxer's group is that hard, if you want to go deep in GSL you just have to beat guys like Sanzenith and Ensnare.
Wow Group A GSL3 and 4 winners and BW legend and a Hyperdub LOL Group F = Group of players who doesn't belong in Code S Group G is stack aswell (poor FD against 3 P when PVZ is his worst match up)
What in the world is July thinking? He's not going to advance from that group unless he somehow got a lot better.
Jinro got a group that is pretty much as easy as one could hope for. Idra's group looks tougher, but I think he will easily make it out of there. His ZvZ has improved lately and Clide has been the most overrated player since season 1 thanks to Artosis and Tasteless.
Nestea should easily finish his group without any loss. Boxer actually has a chance of advancing from that group and avoid having to play Code A challengers.
Group F looks pretty easy. Anyone probably has a chance because there is not a single really strong player in that group. Choya will most likely make it out of there and many people here will rage. Artosis will probably have a time of his life bashing these players and hopefully he doesn't take it too far.
I'm hoping FD will make an emphatic comeback, but he got a difficult group with Genius and Tester. It would be hilarious if anypro somehow makes it out of there.

Be awake when it was being done~ I tweeted John about it, but i think its one of those things that you had to be there to see it. He started translating a quarter through it as well so I am not sure if its going to be on English site.
From some of the player transcripts during the group selections, sounds like the coming GSL will have the new maps from GSTL as well? Am I right in my understanding?
Wow, FruitDealer's group looks rough. Triple Protoss and none of them is a slouch (apparently Anypro is better than advertised, though). And I'd say in general ZvP is the toughest match for Zerg right now, although who knows how FruitDealer feels.
Poor July.. Just getting into code S and has to face 2 champions... At least FD only has to practice zvp while Pvp is so unreliable for every1...but that group is so deadly

Well he brought one of the champions to the group himself, so...
Hope FD will practice hard and survive this group, just to see him shining again :}

I can already tell this will be a really intense GSL from start to finish. I LOVE the trash talking. People are starting to get rivals and get at each other, things will start to get interesting now that everyone knows each other better.

Actually, GOM has changed the format; first of all, theres only 1 group stage now, and 2nd, you can never meet anyone from your group before the finals.
So as far as I remember, A1 will be on one side of the bracket and A2 on the other.
That would explain MC's willingness to be in Nestea and MVP's group, even if he lost to them once, he wouldn't have to face them for a long time assuming he gets 2nd spot.
That said, this means Idra is in even more shit

He said that MC was the reason he didn't get code S sooner, so he wants to rectify that situation and go against him right away.
Really excited about this season, going to be a lot of great games. I think both IdrA and Jinro can make it out of their groups without too much difficulty. Jinros TvT seems solid and IdrA just keeps getting better and better.
mc and mvp in the same group, retarded, and july ? meanwhile, in group f, choya may very well advance ("lol i fooled you fuckers again muhaha")
idra vs. clide yet again, clide's definitely winning the gsl this time!!! yeah
jinro facerolling group again, one would swear shit is fixed so we can see more of his awesome grin on 'tv'
if boxer has to go through nestea to advance, the reverse: they need to start fixing shit
genius vs. tester grudge match, the perennial "i'm the top toss, not him" arguing queens, while mantoss mc was loling in the karaoke pub keeping it real
looks a bit better than the previous gsl ro64 groups though, waiting to see more epic matches; and gom better bring the new maps in as well
On February 08 2011 04:34 ptbl wrote: Let's say Idra and Jinro advance to the round of 16. Who could they face?
I'm not sure how they'll do it, but they could do something like A1 (1st place group A) v B2 (2nd place group B), then A2 v B1 on the other side of the bracket. That would probably be the simplest way to do it. If that's the case, then IdrA would likely end up playing mvp or MC in ro16. Jinro would face someone from Group D which is pretty much impossible to predict since they're all so even.

Just realized that July actually chose MC, not random...July is hilarious and insane.
Also, Nestea is the bane of Boxer's existence, I could easily see Boxer dropping to the up/down matches with his group depending on if he can beat Ensnare in one set.
Haha IdrA in a group with both Cliiide and Zenio, delicious. First group looks pretty tough, feeling good about Jinro's chances in his group though. Bit worried for FD however and curious what'll happen in group E..
Aww man another 2 weeks? How can something so short feel so long (and then feel so short again after)? HYPE.
Edit: Those player comments are hilarious btw >< Nice atmosphere.
Lol! The drama, it is delicious. "Please don't pick me, I will buy you dinner". Picks FruitDealer anyways.
Jinro looks like he has a fairly easy group, as does IdrA. Looking forward to them both getting past their groups. At least it's nothing like the MVP/MC group lol.
I like this type of group selections, makes things a bit more interesting. Thanks for the player comments on their group selections, wish I could watch it. The last two GSL Champions in Group A should make for an interesting group. Can't wait for the next season!
I actually liked the fact that there were two group stages. I feel like now good players will have to knock out eachother earlier btw Jinro's chances to advance out of his group seem to be quite high
at first I thought this type of matchmaking was retarded, but this made some of the matchups a lot more interesting. I mean some will take the boring route and pick an inferior for an easy win, but there will be a few who will spark some tense competition for their match. well done gomtv!
I have faith in the swarm. July will totally take his group. Its all part of his master plan. He sandbagged it in his up/down match to make himself look bad, but really he is going to win it all.
MVP and MC? God damn that's a tough group. Choya's group is weak. IdrA can win his group. Jinro should win his. Boxer's group might be tough, Ensnare's not bad. I think MKP will take his group easy. I think FruitDealer can make it out but I don't know which Protoss will go with him. TesteR and Genius are both good. I'm interested also to see how Code A guys will fare.
All I can think when I look at the groups are, "God damn. What did July do to deserve this soon-to-be-massacre?" Just made it into Code S and it looks pretty bad for him making it out of the ro32.
Also looking at the matchups I'd be really stunned and disappointed if IdrA didn't make it out of his group.
someone should have told July this isn't MSL selection group! Iron and MVP in your group may have been decent back there; here he's gonna get slaughtered!
Haven't seen these many trolls since the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Idra really brings out the best in people doesn't he?
Jinro and Idra have good odds of advancing, Boxer and FD are looking dicey, and Choya couldn't have come up with a better group if he had been group fixing... should be a good tourney
Group A MVP and MC holy shit, I think Hyperdub wil go down, dunno about July Group B IdrA vs Clide and IdrA vs Zenio made me Smile Group C Jinro wins ez Group D I hope for NaDa but TheBest or TOP could make it hard for him Group E BoxeR vs NesTea AGAIN -.- I hope they both make it Group F don´t care, maybe Lyn and TheWinD Group G damn I like TSL. anypro out, but Genius might Kill the dealer of fruit Group H I don´t like MarineKing, but he will make it ez some1 beat him next round plz
Lol'd hard at IdrA vs Clide, vs Zenio..... I trust IdrA's skill to overcome both these players, however I do feel a little bad for him. Obviously Zenio and Clide are STILL butthurt, and are willing to throw themselves at a very powerful zerg in the hope of beating him. Then IF one of them beat him, back to the "trollollollol, I'm better than you!!!" crap.
Just hoping the more skillful player wins here in IdrA. For his namesake more than anything.
Choya is definitely the luckiest player in the GSL. Man all his groups have been easy.
I also find it very amusing that almost half the protoss chose the same group. Hopefully fruitdealer's ZvP still sucks or there won't be many protoss in the top 8 again.
I'm very surprised at the last round of picks, I would've thought that they would be the best players outside of last seasons' top 8. MC and TOP I can understand, but Check, Ensnare, Inca, and TheWind? Shouldn't those guys have been picked first for easy wins?

For MVP vs MC to happen, one of them has to lose their first game and I doubt that will happen. Unless July has something up his sleeve...
July is nuts picking how he did, considering how he played in Code A. Unless the God of War was majorly sandbagging, I don't see how this move goes well for him.
Also: lol free advance for Jinro and whoever has their shit the most together from group F. Idra should make it out of his group without a ton of difficulty.

or if it goes 2-0 2-0 and 0-2 0-2 then they play for 1st and 2nd seed but that wont happen because hyperdub is GSL 5 champ
Group B: IdrA and Byun Group C: Jinro and Rainbow? Gruop D: Nada and Top Gruop E: Nestea and Esnare or Boxer Group F: Lyn and TheWind Group G: Trickster and Genius Group H: MarineKing and Inca

Hyperdub for GSL champion, with sanzanith as runners up right? with all seriousness i do rate hyperdub as a quality player had some great game in January GSL.
Group A: Mvp, MC or Hyperdub Group B: Byun, Idra Group C: Jinro, Check Group D: Nada, TOP Group E: Ensnare, Boxer Group F: Lyn, BanBans Group G: Genius and Fruitdealer Group H: Kyrix, Inca
I wanna see sadZenith take it! ... probably not happening, though.
I quite like this method of group selection and the resulting groups are full of excellent drama. Group A will be totally awesome to watch, who knows what'll happen in group G, and good luck to foreigners...

MC FOR PRESIDENT OF EARTH.
Definitely agree that this group selection is about the best thing ever. It just adds so much personality to the matchups which you simply don't get in a purely seeded or random environment. Not to mention the event itself is entertaining on its own merits.
Gom need to vod it up so i can partake in the preseason festivities.
I really wish I could find working vods of this event that doesn't require the gom player. Is anyone able to PM me a link to such a thing? I've skimmed through every streaming and vod site I can think of. I caught a bit of it when it was happening but missed a lot of the antics.
Group F is the only really bad looking group. Should be a very good Code S, even though I don't think the group play is the best way to weed out the scrubs, but it did do a decent job last round.
Better groups than last time. As for who will advance...
Group A: Mvp, MC Hyperdub is very good, but I don't see him advancing against these players. Same for July.
Group B: Zenio, Idra Clide has been underachieving for the last GSLs, I don't think this one will be an exception. Byun...no.
Group C: Jinro, Polt Jinro is going to win the whole GSL, so he naturally advances. Polt has those insane timing attacks, that will let him get second place in this group.
Group D: Nada, TOP oGs! oGs! oGs! 'nuff said.
Group E: NesTea, Boxer NesTea is just scary, I don't see him losing this early. Same for Boxer.
Group F: TheWind, Choya TheWind should have no problem in this group. Choya will advance too, by doing some random all-in that works for whatever reason.
Group G: Trickster, Fruitdealer Genius and anypro don't seem as good a the others. I'm most unsure about this group.
Group H: MarineKing, InCa MarineKing is a beast. Auto-advance. InCa should barely be able to beat the other two and advance.
A:MVP/MC B:Idra/Clide C:Jinro/RainBow D:Nada/HongUn E:Nestea/Boxer Fenith/Choya G:Trickster/Genius (upsetting FruitDealer with those "imba" colossi XD) H: MKP/Kyrix
Funny how Group G wanted to stay away from the Terrans. I wouldn't say it's the "easiest" group, per se..but I definitely think there's the most parity within it. I could see any of the 4 coming out of there (maybe with anypro as the underdog of the group).
Oh man this shit is gunna be EPIC i feel bad for fruitdealer even tho Im toss, but then again he only has to practice vs toss and all the other players will be more concerned about pvp. Looks like Jinro has great chance at advancing since hes a beast at TvT plus hes shown he can beat Check. Hoping for MVP not to make it out the group stages, hes just too scary for all my fav players. GOGOGO OGS and especially Jinro. Fight on protoss brethren

I wonder if Blizzard will make any adjustments to balance before GSL starts. Probably not, considering it's literally right around the corner.
This is going to be the best one yet. I'll be curious to see if Boxer goes anywhere and or if FruitDealer comes back with a vengence.
GomTv is already taking it into their own hands by changing the map pool. The bigger map will favor zerg more heavily in zvt and won't affect pvz that much.
Wow, Idra playing two very solid terrans and Zenio (a solid ZvZer). I would not be surprised to see him knocked out. Jinro has a nice group, I see him making it just fine.

Nice!!!! I’m assuming the maps are posted somewhere? Curious to see what they look like.
Some of the player comments are funny. Some of them pretty arrogant. I’m not a fan of arrogant people and tend to choose not to have those people in my life, but it’s funnier than hell to read and watch.

Some of the arrogance is prolly real but most of it is in good fun.
Group A Mvp and MC easily.....Hyperdub is solid but I don't think good enough for MC....July hasn't impressed me with his play in Code A.
Group B Byun and Clide are both solid players.....and Zenio has good ZvZ.....but Byun, Clide and Idra are all heavy macro players....so I guess it's a toss-up. I'm gonna go ahead and pick Byun and Idra, but I think this group is pretty even.
Group C Jinro seems a clear level ahead of the other players. Polt, Check, Rainbow seems about even. Since Polt says he's improved I'll give him the benefit of doubt.
Group D Nada should get though pretty easily. Hongun and TOP are 50-50. One has solid macro but uninspiring play. The other is more cheesy but has more variety.
Group E NesTea should get through no problem. Boxer and Ensnare is more slighted toward Boxer, but sometimes the emperor gets too fancy with his builds. The odds I put around 65-35
Group F Not really a big fan of Banban nor choya. With new maps Lyn and TheWind should get through.
Group G Such a volatile group and volatile matchups....I am, however, predicting FD to lose (I want him to win though)
Group H MKP obviously.....next player will either be sC or InCa but more favored towards sC.

Dear Users:
As many of you know, Code S Group Nominations for GSL March took place on February 7th.
There was a problem with the audio and John's interpretation/translation for the first half of the event was not recorded. Currently, we are working on the audio for the VOD.
We will make an official announcement when the VOD becomes available on the GSL March Page (which will be open soon).

To be fair, Zenio's ZvZ is pretty baller and is easily his best matchup.
All things considered, however, that's not a terribly frightful group.

Ah well, C'est la vie. I'm glad they're apparently re-recording the audio or subbing it or whatever.
I'm also glad that they consider this part of the league and something to show. I like a lot of this kind of thing, and I hope GOM has more interviews, Gisado stuff, etc in the future.
Group A is pretty easy pick. The champion IMmvp and the Kratos Protoss oGsMC should advance with no problem. The only thing I can see that would a minor threat is July as new maps favor Zergs macro game and he is a veteran of the game with deep insight, but I don't think that will be enough.
Group B oGsZenio EGIdrA 3rd: ZeNexByun 4th: TSL.Clide
Group B is a bit more even but Idra should advance to the round of 16 without problem. It will probably be very even between Byun and Zenio, but heck if I don't go with Zenio on this one. I think he is hungry enough to take a place in R16. Clide, although being the best player that have ever lived is feeling shaky and I don't think he will advance.
Group C Liquid`Jinro CheckPrime.WE 3rd: ST.RainBOw 4th: PoltPrime.WE
Jinro is the clear favorit in this group, his TvT is probably his best match up and with three Terran players, this should be easy. Check is going to have a hard time, but this will definitely be his last battle before going to the army (if he looses) and a player that has his back against the wall is a dangerous force to reckon with. RainBOw and Polt will probably do good, but not enough.
Group D oGsNada oGsTOP 3rd: HongUnPrime.WE 4th: TheBestfOu
oGs will probably rule this group. NaDa is NaDa and he will destroy most of his competition with is 400 APM and deep knowledge of the game. TOP showed everybody in code A that he is a "top" (yeah, clever I am ) level S-player. The only real question is who will get 3rd or 4th place in this group. I would say that HongUn is a step better then TheBest....(I will stop with the puns now.)
Group E IMNesTea SlayerS_BoxeR 3rd: SanZenith 4th:oGsEnsnare
Man, this is a hard group. The only clear advancement I see is NesTea, the rest is pretty much a gamble. I would probably place Boxer and SanZenith on the same level with Ensnare just half a step after. I will go with my heart and say that the Emperor will take the advancement to R16 in a tight game with the other two.
Group F choyafOu FOXLyn 3rd BanbanssuZenith 4th oGsTheWinD
This group is pretty easy to predict. Given the recent play of both choya and FOXLyn, I am pretty sure they will advance, but BanBanssu will not go down easily. TheWinD is not really code S material and he will most likely go down quick.
Group G TSL.Trickster TSL.FruitDealer 3rd: NSP.Genius 4th: anyproPrime.WE
Not as easy to predict as group F, but this should be taken down by FruitDealer and Seo Ki Soo, although FruitDealer was eliminated very quickly last GSL I think he will do better this time around. Blizzcon 2010 champ, Genius is no push around and he will not make things easy. anypro will have a hard time in this group.
Group H MarineKingPrime.WE KyrixZenith 3rd sCfOu 4th: oGsInCa
Hard group but, MKP and Kyrix will probably take it. Kyrix has shown that he is very impressive. I think his Zerg play will do well with the new maps, but I would not count out the former GSL R8 sC. This is one of the more uncertain groups, but I do think InCa, although a great player will not advance to R16.
I still want a VOD for this as I missed the thing. And as these group selections are epic in BW I want to see this one for SC2 since I heard it was pretty cool aswell. They are always hilarious to watch
After watching the incredibly unexpected results of the Group of Death in Code S last night, I was wondering if the VOD of GSL March Code S Group Selection had gone live yet? Does anyone have information on this?
