In this season of the Intel Extreme Masters the world's best players are followed by Eurosport cameras. Europe's major sports tv network has released episodes about Counter-Strike (Global Challenge Shanghai) and Quake Live (Global Challenge Cologne).
The time has come for StarCraft II - the camera follows Demuslim and White Ra and several other players at the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship in Kiev.
The first airing will be in 15 minutes on Eurosport 2 (20:30), followed by:
Thu, 24/02/11 20:30 CET on Eurosport 2 Sat, 26/02/11 00:00 CET on Eurosport Fri, 11/03/11 00:00 CET on Eurosport

Yes, that was how it was with CS and quake live at least.

I think its both a documentary of the SC2 Players in Kiev + Those who played in New York.

Yes I think so too. Previous episodes were documentaries.

WTF!? This is freaking huge. Wow.... Don't havy any words. Mind = blown. Seriously. That is awesome!! Even if it's "just" a documentary. To think that Eurosport would even consider this. I mean I don't know what other out of the ordinary stuff they pull, but still.
Not the first time major TV stations have been showing small clips like this following esport. But still excited everytime I see esport getting mentioned on major TV stations!
I think they will broadcast the entire tennis match (which is live). The programs after it are probably just to fill up time. A tennis match can last between 30 minutes and 3 hours.

And there I was telling my friend to tune in *sigh*
It's 1 sets to 0 for Jankovic and 2-1 in the second set. It's very possible that the will take this one too. I give the match another 20 minutes maximum

Not sure about online but look for the eurosport page from your country. At least my box doesnt have anything SC2 related on the tv schedule. This tennis match is scheduled until 23h and after that theres the night session with news and sh*t.

I made my post at 20h51, tennis already started at that time and people were saying SC was after tennis. My comment was just about the schedule AFTER the current program (tennis) and not about something that might be scheduled before that because it was clear that it still hadnt been played yet (at least from the comments around here, I just checked at that time).
If your schedule said IEM when there was tennis being played I guess mine is better than yours because yours was wrong xD or so I think...maybe those 2 also play SC2 and are just warming up with a tennis match xD lol

the other two episodes (cs in shanghai? and quake live at gamescom cologne) are up on the intel extreme masters youtube channel... i think they're eventually going to up this one there too

they are playing armwrestling now.. and next on schedule was sc2 so just wait and see...
ah, im watching on sopcast and i cant understand a word because they decided not to sub it but have a romanian guy tell everything the players are saying :@
I don't have access to eurosport. but something tells me i might tune in to these broadcasts regardless *cough*. Also @ Carmac, you're one of my favorite e-sports personalities, I must say you left quite a void when it comes to interviews over at SK.
It was really good. None of the regular video game bashing bullshit the media loves so much. Appears that all stations received a translation as well which is pretty cool. My mom actually got quite interested which wasn't the case before.
I have no Eurosport 2 so i had to watch it online in rumanian On Saturday they are going to show it on Eurosport so i can watch it once again in my language Thank you Eurosport and IEM for doing this <3
if you are planning on watching it you should first check this
The broadcast schedule might differ depending on the region. So be sure to check out your nation's Eurosport schedule to avoid missing the show.
That was actually pretty damn cool. I would have loved a bit more gameplay, but just actually seeing SC2 on tv is good enough for me. Hopefully we see some more like this in the future. Sucks that I will be on holiday for the next two episodes
I don't normally post but it's going to be on 00:00 in the UK and I just put it to record hopefully we can see more of this. Hopefully Eurosport pave the way for more televised SC2 even if it just a kind of small documentary.
Did I say that they are also going to be reporting in the same style from the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship? I also know who they will follow, but I cannot say

:O Yay!!! I hope there will be some way to get VOD's of that.

omg thats briiliant, going to record it if it on tonight at 12 midnight in the UK.
this is awesome. Too bad I can't watch Eurosport here but i'm sure some1 will be kind enough to put it on youtube! Would love to see this, just amazing that some games CS/QL/SC2 get some TRUE mainstream sport channel coverage.
Is there any way to watch any of the Eurosport broadcasts in the US? I'm very interested to see their SC2 broadcasts, though I'm not sure if there are any streams or VODs available.
Anyways, it's amazing to see SC2 actually find its way onto TV, especially onto such a major (?) European TV channel. With GOM finally securing a deal with a kid's channel to show televised GSL and Eurosport broadcasting the awesomeness that is SC2, it's amazing to witness the growth of SC2 as an e-sport. Hopefully, America will soon follow their progress.

There are streams on Eurosport.com, you have to find the eurosport player there. Dunno what language you will get tho.
And yes Eurosport is the main sport channel in Europe.
Previous shows about CS and quake live were up on youtube in the intelextrememasters channel, so I'm assuming this will be up officially as well. Do we know when that will be? I really dug the previous ones.
I gotta see that, made myself a calendar reminder It's in a bit less than 9 hours by the way for the confused ones out there. Really interested to see how they present SC2. It's probably full of misinformation and lacks any depth, but any media exposure is good.

I'm all but sure it will be full of misinformation, but watching starcraft on TV is so awesome I just have to check it out First thing I do when I get home is program my digital television to tape it.
EDIT: In Belgium we get eurosport.nl, normally they have Dutch casting of sports. As I really doubt they would hire a SC2 just for this, I really wonder who and how the casting is going to be done.

These short shows do not mean the growth of esports. Once they actually start showing the whole competition even if not live then you can make claims like this.

I agree, if "everyone" tunes in to watch, it will become "more" popular on Eurosport. And in future they might cover tournaments like this more often, which is HUGE for eSports.
VIDEO GAMING: Intel Extreme Masters in Kiev (Oekraïne)
For the non-EU people it would be like ESPN (for the US) airing it on TV I guess. Eurosport is the number 1 sports channel afaik. Always watch it for euro cup and world cup qualifiers for soccer.
And yes Eurosport is the main sport channel in Europe.
THE main sport channel would be misleading. They mostly show the less popular sports like biathalon or cycling. They don't have the big matches in football f.e. But for sure it is a big channel in Europe.
watched the english version where joe miller did the commentary. it was very well made as joe miller is the esl counter strike and quake live caster. some terms like "drops" or "solid opening" were used which can't be understood by people who have no idea about e-sports but i think that's ok as everything else was pretty interesting.
ahahah the french commentator mixed white_ra's and sjow's name during the whole final. Plus, his english translation was really really funny (mistranslating "drops" into "drapeaux" meaning "flags" in french etc..).
I liked it. I thought it was pretty well done. But yeah, a little longer ingame scenes, showing at least the deciding action of each game, would have been better.
It seems like the German translation was better. I didn`t notice any big mistakes. I`ve already seen the games, so I was happy with it. Seeing the emotions and some player interviews was really nice.
I think the show was really cool. Ofcourse it doesnt show that much ingame but thats why it's a documentary. The interviews and background story was reaaly cool. The german translator actually did a good job aswell i think. I will watch it again in english when it's on the IEM youtube channel though.

who did the german translation? i had the english one!
The dutch commentator was pretty bad. It sounded like he was just reading everything from a sheet and he was talking about the wrong games half of the time with the footage they showed. Too bad because I like Skate in other stuff like Gamekings.
I could only watch a few minutes of it, but i was so suprised about that. I hope they do more stuff like that in the future. Well its certainly better than watching their normal programm for me. I just dont dig snooker that much :-p
broadcast starts in 1 hour where i live >:o ...too bad its 7:30 am atm, what kind of gamers will be up to watch it? except the ones like me who hasn't gone to bed yet :p anyways pretty cool, cant wait to see what the caster is like ^^
I wish i could get eurosport. Eurosport also gives coverage of European Weightlifting Championships and World Weightlifting Championships but not a single one of the 5903845 ESPNs in the U.S. will cover it. Now sc2? lol.
I can't find it in any TV guide, even on Eurosport web page. When exactly it was/will be on 26th??
ah it's now ^^ atm it's more of a clip. They are not even showing games. Maybe Europosrt will show tourney from CeBiT (or whatever will ow be in Germany)? Anyone knows?
All they did was ... "showing a short interview before/after the next match, show some very short images with a game (replay) set up on normal ... the game looked very slow and boring. No full game just interviews.
WhiteRa beated X. Interview whitera... interview sjow, 2 questions Gooody ... and so on.
Weak. But at least we saw a bit SC2 on TV.
however if a person who dosn't know what SC2 is and what Esports are ... their opinion will not be changed. "JUST KIDS PLAYING VIDEOGAMES" :D
They didn't showed the actuall pressure or something.
I found it quite ok. For my taste, they should have reduced the number of interviews in favor of explaining the game a bit more. I liked how they showed the players spending their free time having fun, portraying them as normal people, not basement nerds. Overall, I expected much worse.
Im so disapointed. They didnt show E-sports as it should be. To much zoom, zoom and stupid random screen clips. The danish commentator was so unable to read the scriot or script was poorly written.
Maybe they are just testing the waters. See how many people tune in, what is the response, etc. If they are showing even 30 mins of E-sports, that means they are definitely looking into it. Maybe it won't happen immediately, but E-sports on TV will become reality outside Korea, in the next few years . Glad to hear that there is interest in Starcraft 2 though, and come on Eurosport 2 are showing lacrosse, arm wrestling and other stupid sports ffs. Even my grandma will be more thrilled to watch Starcraft 2 than lacrosse.
Well it looks like this Sat, 26/02/11 00:00 CET on Eurosport is only on the american Eurosport (??) , because this tells me that there is no eSport on the german Eurosport at least. The only source saying there is eSport is this one so i cant watch this

Well the romanian commentator was ok. He said what you need, micro macro but ... I'm dissapointed on the actuall screen. I was very very bored. Just waited for it to finish.
As someone said above this post... just some zooms on some players, some very quick and boring interviews and that's all.
"I hope I will win"
"I am dissapointed that I lost"
Stuff like that.
But I liked the social part. They should do a show where they explain the esports better. Someone who dosn't know what esports are are just going to say the classic "I WILL WATCH REAL SPORTS LIKE BOX and AMERICAN FOOTBALL !!!111"
They showed the last iem on eurosport 2, too. I literrally jizzed in my pants, when I saw it! It wasnt live though. I hope that its live this time, because this is fucking HUUUGE!

The social aspect was nice tho.
Who casted it in danish? And is possible to get a VOD in danish/english?
My parents hated when I watched extreme sports on TV, then they hate me when I watch snooker on Eurosport, then there was the poker broadcasts from the WPT, I can only imagine what will happen if I take the remote and put some SC2 on TV. Just amazing!!!

Hahaha, i feel your pain bro. My mother always told me that i watch dumb stuff and then switched over to shallow soaps or the latest gossip news. But when i told her that gossip shows ansd soaps are the dumbest thing on tv ever, she always denied that she watches such shows. lol
