DreamHack and PGL to host the next CS:GO Major inside the Sala Polivalentă sports arena in Cluj-Napoca with 10,000 seats, featuring a 4-day stage show, and sixteen of the World’s best CS:GO teams competing for $250,000 in prizes.
(Stockholm, Sweden - August 31, 2015) DreamHack, in partnership with PGL and Valve Software, is pleased to announce DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca as the next Major CS:GO Championship. While the dust settles from the last Major the time has come to look ahead for the next one, which is set to run from October 28th to November 1st 2015 in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca.
The World’s sixteen best teams will be up against one another to battle it out for a $250,000 prize purse. The playground for the event will be the newly opened Sala Polivalentă, a multi-purpose indoor arena with a capacity of up to 10,000 viewers. The event will span over 5 days, with Group stage played Wednesday to Friday, and playoffs on Saturday and Sunday. The initial day of the group stage will be played in a closed studio environment and all remaining matches will be played out on stage; with a 4-day stage show. All matches will be covered by both the official stream, as well as GOTV.
“We’re thrilled to bring a CS:GO Major to DreamHack Cluj-Napoca, as we’ll have the chance to create a 4-day stage show in front of the amazing Romanian eSports fans, as well as attract fans worldwide,” said Tomas Lyckedal, DreamHack “Together with our partner PGL, we have the possibility to create the most unique media production, and ultimately the most memorable event in CS:GO ever.”
“I am happy that Romania will be the 4th country to host a CS:GO Major, especially since the PGL-DreamHack partnership played such an important part in making it happen”, said Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL. “DreamHack Cluj-Napoca promises to be one of the most exciting events we have ever worked on”
Eight teams will make their way to the event as Legends via direct invites, based on their performance in the previous Major. Another eight teams will join them as Challengers, found via a qualification process starting with online regional pre-qualifiers and ending with one offline qualifier in Stockholm, Sweden.
DreamHack Open Stockholm will be restructured to act as the offline qualifier, with the bottom eight teams from the previous Major already qualified. The qualifier will begin in the Monster Energy DreamHack Studios, running from September 22nd to 25th, finishing with a traditional DreamHack stage show with the final matches played in Annexet Stockholm Globe Arenas on September 26th in front of a live audience of at least 2000 people. Tickets for this event are available here. More information about the qualification stage will be announced shortly.
Tickets for DreamHack Cluj-Napoca are on sale now, with various options available, daily tickets starting at €5 and the VIP experience at €90. Tickets can be purchased at here.
For the CS:GO fans unable to make the trip to Cluj-Napoca, all the action will be streamed live for free and in HD on one stream.
