Diablo III Launching May 15 – Digital Pre-Sales NOW OPEN by Blizzard Entertainment Mar 15, 2012 6:00 AM PDT 4
The End of Days approaches…. Diablo III will be unleashed from the Burning Hells on May 15, 2012, and you can be ready to play the minute the servers go live by pre-purchasing the game digitally on Battle.net today.
Beginning May 15, players around the world will be able to return to Tristram to discover the dark secrets of a fallen star and begin their quest to save Sanctuary from the impending demonic invasion. To secure your place as a barbarian, monk, demon hunter, witch doctor, or wizard right now, simply log in to your Battle.net account, and then purchase and download* Diablo III, and you’ll be ready to play when the game launches.
If you would like to pre-order a physical copy, you can do so at the TL Store. The price is identical to the online version and you will usually receive the game the same day of release. Ordering through the TL Store helps to support teamliquid.net.
Finally!! Me and my buddy are taking vacation days to spam D3 haha. I really hope that it lives up to the hype.
Edit: If you're a D3 fanatic you may want to think twice about purchasing the digital copy. IIRC, there were some issues for people who purchased the digital copy of SC2. Something about having to wait 24 hours before they could actually play the game while those who bought it at midnight release from a store were able to play immediately.

I just wanted to post this for europeans: I purchased my copy on amazon.co.uk for £27(at the time, now £32). The digital copy on battle.net costs 60€. So you basically save yourself 20€ buying it off amazon. There is also an option for free delivery.

Yeah, I also got it on Amazon when it was really cheap. Blizzard digital purpose is soooooooooo pricy lol :D

Just buy from Amazon.co.uk for about 40€ or from just about everywhere for 50€ on release. Starcraft 2 also sold for 50€ and less just about everywhere on release.
They may also have a deal with retailers, to have a high digital price so that people actually want to buy it in stores, who knows. Either way, you won't need to pay that much money most likely.
My day just got better. Too bad I am studying for the NY bar exam this summer - going to have to balance dungeon crawling with hitting the books. Haha.

Now that I stop to think about it... 10 years is a long time. I was 10 years old when I played diablo 2 for the first time, and it amused me so much, it changed my life and what games used to mean to me. Now, I'm 20, I study in one the best universities in my country and the only thing I can think about is if diablo 3 will be the same as diablo 2 was to me 10 years ago.
Well, it may be smack-dab in the middle of exam period, but at least I'll be able to play (and complete) the game before the actual End of Days. When the waves come crashing through my 4th-storey window and the brimstone heavens burn through my roof, I won't give a damn, because I'll be in a D3 coma.
They're releasing the PvP function at a later date right? Anywho, nice to see a date finally set for release. Not going to pre-order just yet, but will probably end up getting it anyway.

In Europe digital download costs a bit more than the game in stores :D
lol its 60euros! i mean thats a serious overkill, ill buy it from game.co.uk for 40, means ill have to wait a bit longer for it to arrive but still, 60e is way too much... damnit blizz
shouldnt a copy that is bought DIRECTLY from blizz cost way less than all others? not the other way around
Awesome, but it’s a little saddening at the same time. If Diablo 3 isn’t going to come out until May 15th, then I can only imagine when Heart of the Swarm is going to come out
What I'm hoping for is a long beta. I think they need a long beta to really work a lot of stuff out.
There are two major home electronics store chains right next to each other in my town. When SC2 hit the shelves, they had a price war and sold copies for like 10 euros each. I'm guessing something similar will happen with D3.
That's right after my last week of exams... but 2 weeks before I head to the States for a 2 month visit... hmmm hmmm hmmm... (edit: i wasn't planning on purchasing d3 due to my obsession with sc2 but with this coming out RIGHT with my summer break -hmmmmm)

It should, but it doesnt. Blizzard isn't the only offender when it comes to digital download prices. Since you're cutting out the physical disk/manual/box as well as the cut the retailer takes, the product should cost a fair bit less (~$40 on a $60 dollar retail box), and yet its commonplace these days for digital content to actually cost more than retail. As long as people are willing to pay such prices for digital downloads though, companies will continue to charge them .

is diablo 3 going to be split up by region? if i buy a copy of d3 in NA will i only be able to play on a NA server or will i get to choose which server i want to connect to at the login screen no matter where i buy my copy?

Yeah same here, but then ultimately, you will have people who loved it and people who think it's overrated.. so probably might get it when my work schedule eases up a bit.

I think cross region play is possible in D3, the auction houses(if you care about those) will be locked in according to region.

Correct, the only question is if you select a region before making a character or after. If before you could play with your character anywhere. If after you have to create a seperate character for each region.
And so many people are going to fail in the finals this year because of D3
Wow, that's seriously so awesome! I'm so happy right now! Thanks Blizzard, I was assuming it would be at the end of 2012. That's actually within reach :-) SO happy!
The prices for Digital pre-order outside of the US is pretty ridiculous. My bnet account's country is set to Singapore so I'm locked to paying in SGD even if I go to us.battle.net . Mind you D3 costs 90SGD in contrast to 60USD.
I don't see why they can't let me pay in USD when I can make a new bnet account with country set to the US and just pay 60USD, which is probably what I'll end up doing.
It was also announced that there's no SEA region for D3 so SEA+Aus+NZ will all default to the US region, so its not like my Digital copy would be any different from the one in the US.
Argh is there *any* way to get the CE version pre-purchased and still get hour-zero server access like the b.net digital copy? I'd much rather directly support Blizzard or Team Liquid, but if GameStop is the only option, I'll have to take it.
I bought it but it's the last time I give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt with their recent track record. I hope I won't be disappointed. I had fun in the beta, however I'm mostly wondering what I will do in the game after a few weeks when I'm 60 on all 5 characters but we'll see soon enough I suppose.
Here's to a hopefully unexpectedly great experience!
Oh God.. oh God.. when I saw it today I didn't know to either feel happy or sad. Because I'm doing really bad with things I should have done in my real life and at the same time I've been waiting for Diablo 3 as my last, best game in my gamer career.

I will not give you a guarantee, but Amzone has for many preordered titles delivered on the Day of releases, so that should at least give you a good chance to be just a few hours behind the curve. Or look for a Gamestop midnight Sale close to you.

WRONG. You have to divide your results by 2. Half the time you mention, was playing d2 :-) But wow thats a long time. Didnt remember it to be that long.
Finally!!!!!! Those two months are gonna feel so long... Now Blizzard, you just need to send me a damn beta key so I can try the different classes and be ready for the release! oh, and I need to tell my boss that I'm taking the week off as well
With exams coming up a week after release, I think it's safe to say that I won't be playing Diablo 3 before june 20th. Still, we finally got a release date.
Will confirm the access to beta thing once its done. As of right now my bnet profile includes D3 mondial blablabla, it also states "beta" in parenthesis so we'll see. Would be a pretty cool "bonus" to FINALLY have access to the beta, test out some builds and get a feel of the game prior to release. Will also let me know if I need to upgrade my cpu altough I doubt it.
I've never had any trouble with digital download/purchase. I've bought SC2, Cataclysm and now D3. Dont need the box or anything as such, dont want the nasty surprise of a broken/corrupted dvd either...!
Been a blizzard gamer since Warcraft II, there's no way I was'nt getting D3, and subsequently HoTS as soon as it comes out >_<
I was there, 2008 in Paris, as Mike Morhaime announced the new title. A musician went on stage and played the Tristram theme on a 12-string. Then the video were played. As the Lord of Terror showed his ugly face, HELL BROKE LOOSE. The entire audience screamed.
Then the 18 minute gameplay video was shown, introducing barbarian and witch doctor. I will play a softcore barb to unlock hardcore mode, because I bought D2 because of the barbarian. Then I will start hardcore with the witch doctor.
About half an hour after the announcement of Diablo 3 I watched a WC3 match Grubby vs. Sky, but I still was excited about the new Diablo.
Years passed. I was a lucky bastard who got a D3 beta key quite early. And now, finally, I know shit gets real.
I'm a cheapass (although me and my bro got CE + normal game) and chose for the cheapest delivery method from Amazon. It will arive between 17-22th of May >_>
Good thing is I have exams in week of 21-25 May, so I don't mind it being late xD makes it less painful.
Ordered CE from Amazon via TL Store Link. I have a free Amazon PRIME trial that is still active so I Get FREE RELEASE DAY DELIVERY!!! That's what's up. F a Digital Download, I'm getting my CE DELIVERED on day of release .

You could, the last few months of SC2 beta, you could get a beta key by preordering the game.

I say how it is with Diablo 3. What was with SC2 is different story.

I highly doubt this would happen though. Since they use the fact you can play right off the bat @ release to sell the game directly, can you imagine the shitstorm this would give? =P
Just preordered a collector's edition, I love Diablo and gave up waiting for announcements and then saw this little thread title in the sidebar. TL is awesome.

Well, yes, but i can't care less about shitty DVD boxes collecting dust in some shelf, cause i never even put the disk out of the box, except, if they hide the key under it.

Diablo has no LAN and I need to be online to play it. Also Torchlight is an Indie Game which deserves my support. There are a lot of reasons actually but I guess this isnt exactly the right place to discuss it. Still wanted to reply though.

I've done the digital download from blizz before, you can download and install before the 'start' time, you literally hit midnight, then the Play button lights up and you're on your way. In that sense you're actually on before the hardcopy midnight launchers who have to wait in line, drive home, and install. just sayin.
I'm so happy, been waiting since the game was announced. Can't believe it has been 4 years. The best part is that this game comes out after my spring semester is over and right when my summer vaction had already started for a week. I got like 3 free months to just play Diablo!!!

Back from the gym, and my download has finished. Install is not enabled (which is lame imo), and alas beta is not accessible either! So I have these 8 gb worth of files which I cant use till mayb 15th -_-
I guess they will enable "install" at midnight, I also expect bnet to crash at release T_T

Yeah, global it is. So, no US West/US East, etc? hope so.
No, it's not global in the sense that there are not multiple servers at all (i.e. no US West/US East like we saw on old Battle.net). It's global in the sense that your account/client can connect to any server.

If you haven't figured it out by now, those annual WoW passes are just a marketing strategy to keep WoW players active and paying their subscriptions. The numbers are in and WoW has seen a significant decrease in player activity since Cataclysm. It's turning into a game that WoW fans are starting to hate and loathe. Blizzard's offering that crap to try and restore a game that's "going down the crapper" so to speak.
Fuck yeah!! Still 2 months of waiting though. I will get the digital copy just like I did with SC2 since there is no other way to play the game on release date at this part of the world. And fuck my summer vacation with my gf. Lol, Now I will have to pursue her to move it to July.
In the beta myself and I can't say I am too hyped for it, despite pouring my soul into D2 in the past. I will still buy the game but I am not going to get my hopes up for it to be even half of the game that D2 was.
Pessimism is always the way to go for new releases.
For those (luckers) who played the beta, do you need a very good cpu to run D3 ? I'm afraid I won't be able to play smoothly(or at all) with my 3yo cpu...
They have a bloody loop in the pre-order system. I clicked to buy with Paypal to check if it works, then clicked cancel and logged on to my paypal account to change billing address. Then when I clicked the pre-order button on the diablo 3 page it instantly gave me out a purchase confirmation..... with an old address too.

That is until the day before Diablo 3 release, when you are (un-)fortunate enough to meet the love your life!

Yeah I've been checking every day to see a release date, I wake up one morning see my GF on her phone looking at twitter, looks over at me and say's D3 coming May 15th. I was so mad! I check every day since beta started and she ruined it for me to find out my self.
Let's see...I usually accumulate about 1:30h of overtime on each working day. This gives me 8*5*1:30h = 60h of overtime until D3 hits. Plus two days of holidays at 7,5h each that makes two weeks of D3 plus the weekends which means 16 days of uninterrupted monster slaughter. Now to find a solution for this girlfriend thing...oh wait, she's in Paris for work then...guess I won this round, eh social life?^^
btw, I did this calculation every single time I heard about some sort of release date XD
At first I was hesitating to buy this game since I haven't played the previous ones but seeing that it comes out on my birthday I have no choice but to get it :D Universe definitely wants me to have this game
with wow annual pass i'll have the free version but i pre-ordered the CE through the TL link anyways--- this way i'll still be able to pre-load the game for the midnight release and then have the cost of the CE recycle back into my wow time---

Spend some time playing the first two while you're waiting. D2 is a classic.
Spent a good portion of my childhood on d1 and d2 with no regrets . Absolutely stoked about D3. Are there any diamond+ players here who plan to stop playing sc2 when d3 comes out. I am in diamond NA and SEA and I dont think I will play sc2 at all once d3 comes out. I will still watch as many tournaments as I can though. I think that sc2 is by far the best esport for spectators but the diablo universe is just the most fun and addictive

good.
Diablo 3 will easily whet our appetites for gaming, and honestly Blizzard's smart when they release their games - they stagger out the releases so that the issue of cannibalizing their own sales is minimal.
That said, I think HOTS balance should proceed nice and slow...everyone's gonna be playing Diablo 3 anyways...overall win-win scenario...
Oh man, isn't this great :D Finally we have some sort of release date which seems to be set in stone. I cannot bear the excitement I am feeling right now!

I read a quote from the site that stated there would be no region lock with D3, meaning you can play on any server you want, if that's what you wanted to know...
If you do the digitial pre-order, do you get to actually install the game so you are actually playing the "minute the servers go live?" or do you just download the installer and still have to go through the installation process the night of release?

Yeap that's what i've understood aswell, it's just the RMAH which is locked to your own region/server afaik.

get lost doomsayer... do you really think that HALF of the FIRST ACT of the FIRST DIFFICULTY LEVEL would even begin to compare to a full retail version of one of the best games ever conceived? honestly... some of these doomsayers really piss me off.
personally, I know for a fact that d3 is going to be fucking amazing.
if anyone is wondering what to do in the meantime, Titan Quest is almost IDENTICAL to Diablo 2's gameplay, with 10 years of technology advancement. Was released in 2008 by THQ, and is one of the most underrated and not-very-well-known gem's of a game I've ever played.
You can get the original game AND the expansion for 5 BUCKS on THQ's web-store... and the game itself includes hundreds if not THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay... has 9 classes that utilizes a dual-class system that is VERY well balanced making pretty much any combination of character class viable.
I'll be playing Titan Quest until d3 drops.... then it's all over. I'm going to kiss my wife and son goodbye on May 15th.
I need to buy a new computer by that time lol I started with the DDR and the hard drive last month, will buy myself a nice proc and motherboard this month, and the graph card just before D3, everything is set !
I was really excited when I got my invite to Path of Exile, but by the end of the day I was nothing but disappointed.
I've had ten times more fun with the D3 beta, which is pretty sad considering it only includes the first 30 minutes of content. Replaying Diablo 2 for the 20th time is also more fun than Exile.
Actually it's not free to download or play, yet. Second path of exile will be pay for win, but in a different way, you will be able to pay for your private server. And the owner can apply game modifiers to their private server, overall a terrible idea.
Path of Exile is really inferior to D3, primarily because the GUI is very bad and gameplay+story are nonexistent, or just very bland in the case of gameplay.
Also, Path of Exile graphics are just unattractive, whereas D3 with low gamma is amazing to look at.
I feel fucked, I did not want to buy D3 but two weeks ago in order to have an easy game to play with my girlf friend I thought about D2, we quickly raised 2 lvl 50 sorceress and now I will buy D3. I'm so weak.

This guy speaks the truth. TitanQuest is definitely one of my top 5 games all time, its a shame it didn't get proper appreciation. I rate is Significantly higher then d2, and honestly its graphics are very comparable to d3. This game is a real gem.
PR4Y I am gona try to finish maxing out some chars, if you want to trade gear or play some runs. I am looking for the archmage clasp for my full recharge set... my warr is essentially maxed.
Have you tried the MASTERY mod, with all the new classes?
I didn't play PoE and D3, I heared comments like, gameplay and graphic is better. Probably it's true, cause Blizzard is a big company, while Grinding Gear Games is a new little company. It's normal that they can't compete with the graphics for example.
But I'm pretty sure, PoE is an Action RPG game with real builds, and an interesting game overall. Diablo3 have a cool graphic or gameplay, but nothing more.
Blizzard is not interested to social aspects (watch the chats of d3 beta and sc2 or lack of clan features), not interested to RPG Aspects (only items builds in real money and too easy switch skill), not focused on PvP aspects (I can agree about this, but maybe they should to care more about it, because that is a funny part of the game. The PvP delay is significant), not overall interested to the end game, what remains of the game?
After 1 month maybe you killed all the monsters, and then? D3 remain a farming based game, just u have to farm, and improve ur items without a real objective, because farming should to be not an objective but should to be a passage for realize one or more objectives, that they could to add with patches or expansions.
What I watch, Blizzard is not caring about a lot of important feauters in order to make a longeval game, but to follow the new market wich is optimized to gain more money possibile in few months.
You can pre-load the game now? So it is a finished product why wait untill May to release it. Come on, just let us play now and all will be happy. I think they hold up the release because they want to release it in summer thus increase sales -_-.

Having millions of users using battlenet requires a lot of preparation. If they were ready by now, then they would have announced the release date to be 18 of march 2 months ago .
Patience dude. People waited 10 years for this game.. and just seeing a date actually makes me jizz my pants.

Day 1 patch dude, it is not a finished product and also they want people to all preorder the game, hyping it up. And then on release day they can announce 2mmillion copies sold, even though its over a course of 2 months.

Oh you are the same guy that posted about PoE also 3 posts ago. Please shut up, you will get no love in a D3 forum especially while being rude to its fanbase.
So what is everyone going to do with the game first?
Rush through to nightmare and above? Play slow and absorb it all? Gather your party of friends and venture forth? Unlock hardcore mode and hit that instead?
First time through I'll be focused on the lore/plot and get absorbed by the world of sanctuary After that I'll start a HC character and level him in tandem with my normal (now nightmare) one, and focus on finding fun encounters and loot.

I can't wait
Absorbing the story, exploring on the 1st play through then going for fastest progression after normal. One character for myself, one character for friends (I usually play a lot more than friends). Hardcore after at least one softcore character into inferno
I try to get asap to Hell, because Normal is waaaaaaaaaaay to easy (even with +100% dmg on all mobs since beta 14). I hope my best friend has the time to play with me right away.

I'll definitely play through normal solo, talking to every NPC and basically trying to get everything unique out of it. After that the actual challenge slowly begins and I might join up with some people from work and uni for the fun of the fight. Definitely planning on getting to Inferno kinda quickly and then play party only.

Likely it's not a 'finished' product.
On release you'll install it, then you'll download all the patches that'll actually finish the game to release standards.

While I completely agree that this guy judging games he's never played is foolish and makes his opinion completely irrelevant, I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with your statement, going off of my alpha and beta experience of both games I see D3 as the challenger looking to prove something against POE here. No doubt D3 will out sell POE no questions asked, you could put the Blizzard and Diablo title on an empty box and it's pre-orders alone would out sell nearly every other game on the planet that doesn't have a COD sticker on it, but will it last? Will D3 be able to keep the fanbois playing for more than a month or two after the next random popular title game comes out? Will POE completely fold under their marketing strategy and never be heard from again, we don't know. So making arguments over things we don't know is pointless.
Comparing the two betas I see the game appealing to two different extremes while of course there will be some overlap and like myself many people will simply play both to satisfy their needs. I see D3 as the causal time killer, from the second you press create character you are an unstoppable killing machine, a god in the world. You can do the beta naked hc without ever dropping below 90% hp, who knows maybe there is some massively steep slop coming up that just throws everyone off the deep end and the game ends up relatively challenging before wasting too much time, but probably not. In all likelihood it will be a slowly ramping up of difficulty that doesn't get to relatively easy before the end of normal. No worries of having to build a character, everything is done for you, stats, skills, talents, all you have to worry about is picking up shiny loot and kicking the shit out of demons. PvP is still "Soon TM" so hard to really count it into the mix cause it could be a normal soon or a blizzard soon aka we'll throw it in the next expan to get people to come back to the game. A pvp that resides only in arenas.
On the other you have POE which aims towards the more hardcore crowd and focus on the point of character customization to an extreme, to a level that can be seen as alienating to causal gamers, literally hundreds of choices to tweak a character to your play style. A game that throws you into the not so shallow water from the start, today there was a beta HC ladder race and chat was full of people dying before ever getting to lvl 6 and forums full of vet players giving stories of how they lost their top characters and theory crafting on ways to tweak them so they can hopefully make it further next time. A sample of PvP is already in the game and is quiet entertaining, with more in the works. If I've never played this game before and you told me it was D3 from Blizzard I wouldn't even bother to think twice about it and would just continue enjoying an amazing game. A pvp system planned to include everything from dueling, instanced war grounds to all out world pvp in which you can hunt down your enemy, kill the bastard and loot his gear.
Would go into more detail but the wife is rushing me out the door to go drink green beer...
With your reasoning, nobody should judge Diablo3, since it is not released yet. But there are forums, feedbacks, videos, messages from the developers, and many who have already played sc2 know what is BNet 2.0, that is the same for sc2 and d3. Thanks to all of these things a person gets an idea, and it would be right to respect it, mainly considering opinions of persons with twenty years of experience about games like me, I played also all the Blizzard games since warcraft 1. But this is a thread for fanboys, sorry if I disturbed, now you can continue to piss on ur pants, as many of you have written.

A pvp that resides only in arenas.
Well it depends on the philosophy Blizzard takes with their "end game content" here, which AFAIK noone outside the developers actually know.
Are they gonna follow the "everyone should see all the content there is to see" model, where Inferno is tuned so that even casual play will get you through with minimal frustration?
Or are they gonna follow the "everyone should be able to finish the game.. but for the hardcore players, there's are exponentially more difficult options" model, where normal is tuned so that casual play will get you through, but higher difficulties will be tuned for completely different audiences?
All the signs point to their plan being the second one. But we don't know yet, and even if we did know, we can't tell if they've executed correctly.

Then you have to question what is blizzard's definition of "hardcore" players? If Sc2 brutal was "hardcore" then most TL players gonna be very bored very quickly because it's too easy. If wow hardmodes were "hardcore" then maybe 1 out of 10 will provide some entertainment and maybe 1 out of 25 a real challenge the rest will be the same easy to avoid mechanics but with slightly higher hp/damage. Altho I feel I'm giving too much credit to wow encounters since on a individual level they were all very simple but the difficulty of it came from likelihood of having to carry 9, 24, 39 others. If they do make it a true challenge how long would they keep it that way before giving in to the entitlement of the casuals to see everything? There's just too much unknown here. I would like nothing more than for them to make something truly epic in the end game that I could slam my head against a brick wall for hours to make small dents into, but for now I'm gonna try not to get my hope up so I can still enjoy the game for what it is, and not what I wished it could have been.

OT: I haven't been all that pumped for D3 last few months (after I got to try Beta the initial hype wore off) but actually getting a release date has gotten my excitement back up. Already did all my pre-download since I was weak and did the Year sub for WoW to get D3 for free (I only kinda play WoW, so maybe not the best idea >.<). So stoked for the midnight release now, already have plans with some buddies to lan out that night getting our fill of Demon blood ^.^
I'll save any judgments about the Bnet social options, RMAH, and the like for when the game comes out, for now... lets just get pumped about another great Blizz game inc!
I personally never played D1 or D2 so i wont be getting it,it's not just because of that. There's a lot of things that are putting me off buying like being always online to play etc. Also 60 euro is really steep for me :/ .

I'm sure that blizzard will have a demo a few months into the game, you can then see if you like it enough to buy it or not. It never really hurts to try out a demo I played both d1 and d2 and both games were super awesome and they provided hours after hours after hours of gameplay

Not sure what to tell ya. I bought the CE from Amazon as well. I received the email and noticed the eta being between May 21-25 which is absurdly late. Luckily I noticed in time and managed to swap it to Release-Date Shipping so hopefully it will arrive in a day or something.

Yeah I hope it will be harder than SC2 brutal as brutal was too easy, I had to retry maybe 2 or 3 missions in brutal and until the hardest one I always tried to get all 3 achievements at the same time.
Well for WoW I always viewed it like this: no matter how good you are there is a chance you will fail, very good players may be 1% chance while the people you carry or 10% chance. When you then have to rely on everybody suceeding the difficulty comes from this. If the game was so hard that a hardcore player had only 75% success the game would be terribly hard and boring since wiping is such a loss of time in this game.
I don't think they will catter to casual and nerf d3 difficulty, they did it for wow because of the subscription, there is no point in D3. They already can see the whole content even if they dont reach inferno.
But let's forget about WoW or Sc2. As much as I'd like the game to be hard I'm also reallistic. The game is doable y developers. It means, us, hardcore gamers will complete it without feeling too badly stuck. If someone that plays sc2 at master league, finished brutal in 3-4 days after release, expect Inferno to be a complete brick wall I think he will get disapointed (and players better than that, even more). The difficulty is doable and certainly not by pro players only.
Now that said, I'm still eager for the game, without thinking it will be impossible, if it is a challenge that requires me to have reflexes and all I will be satisfied. And if you look back, D2 was easy, especially in party. If they give something harder than D2 that will be quite enough for me. (To be fair, D2 was difficult but only if you made a bad build).

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. They talk a lot about it being "hard", but im betting by May 22nd the game will be easy mode.

Most of us on TL are pretty hardcore when it comes to games so what is easy for us will not necessarily be easy for the majority of players. It's natural for us to read up and learn all there is to know about the 'right' builds or calculate them ourselves but some people will never do that. What we might see as a good challenge might seem impossible for them.
In D2 Hell wasn't too bad if you were twinked up with the right gear and playing it in softcore but if you were untwinked in HC it can still be a pretty scary ride, so if they maintain that level of difficulty I'll be content- I don't think it really needs to be harder than D2.

I'm kinda like you on the spoiler thing. But then I was in beta, I watched A LOT of streams, vods and Idra winning the King of the beta tournament, but when I first saw the Tychus opening cinematic and at the end of it, the STARCRAFT II logo with THE sound, it still gave me some of the biggest chills I ever had in my entire life. Ever.
And I'm bigger Diablo fanboy than starcraft.
Guess what will happen to me when I'll see the Diablo logo reveal at the end of the video.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, you gotta be realistic about the difficulty, TL members will probably finish it. But I still think they can manage to make something difficult enough for us in the 2 last difficulties that will feel good and which will seem crazy hard for a casual player (the kind that always play on easy or normal). If they do that I'll be happy, I don't expect them to make it incredibly hard that you must be Flash (diablo level) to beat it (I exagerate but you know what I mean).
On the other hand I believe hardcore will be a real challenge. Of course I don't know it's speculation, we'll see after the 15th may.

Just a heads up to those of you who were keeping an eye out on the Amazon Collector's availability, I just got my order in with release date shipping. It's convenient that the release day shipping actually comes out cheaper than standard so instead of like $4 it comes out to like 99c for me or something. Was pretty nifty, anyway it seems like they've got some stock.

I'd be quite happy if it looked like d2. "nice" graphics mean nothing, just like how bw's graphics are much better to look at than sc2

The game looks fine. As if it matters anyway...
i dont particularly mind the graphics but he does have a point. I feel a game of d3 magnitude should blow us away in all aspects, gameplay, replayability, imagery, environment, etc.
the gameplay will likely be ACE (which is by far the MOST important aspect) but a visually stunning experience would be preferred as well.

Same thing was with Diablo 2 - during release it already had quite weak graphic compared to other titles. But judging from it's life span, it wasn't actually too big issue.

Never quite understood this mindset. using a rather arbitrary time period to describe the graphics when one does not take into account the aesthetics of the game (which I find to be more important).
When ever someone posts this sort of comment regarding Diablo III, I always think of penny arcade on their piece, Graphics Vs Aesthetics

D3 Aesthetics is good but graphics are still bad You can demand both. D3 should have better textures and models without losing the style. It's not a dealbreaker of course but it wouldn't hurt.
D2 was the same imo, bad graphics fine aesthetics, when it came out.

Just to correct you, this is not SC2 website, this is SC community website. And regarding to Blizzard being greedy - yes they are and it hurts their games and fans. If they fuck up Diablo 3, i am done with them. However i am pumped as the midnight sell was just confirmed in my local shop, so i will be there standing in the line. I wonder how many people will show up, as the midnight sell was met with huge interest. I hope i won't end up standing in the line for couple hours or so.

I would not agree. I would say, the aesthetics of Diablo III are very nice. The texture detail is there, but it is beneath a large number of layers. So I would not consider the graphics as bad. I think if you were to measure it in terms of Crysis level graphics, than it is fine (not brilliant). But when I look at the game, I look for the overall feel and not being shocked by the graphics but the immersion. Granted, I do have some qualms like with the minimap being way too large.

It's the inside that counts, don't judge a book by its cover.
Best example:
Modern Warfare 3: Awesome graphics, action scenes and explosions. Finished the single player, played multiplayer for 2 days and never touched the game again.
Dungeons and Dragons: The game HAS no graphics, you have a playing mat and playing pieces from Monopoly unless you actually bother to get some figurines. Yet it's one of the most played board games ever.
Diablo 3, I forsee playing this thing for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Exactly, just look at how popular minecraft is. Not considered brilliant graphics but they work. And yes, I do realize that there are texture packs. But I play without them and I still enjoy it.

it does of course, it's a visual medium and the mainstream audience will always care about graphics. If graphics didnt matter everything would look like dwarf fortress.
Well apparently if you preordered Diablo III (CE) on Amazon with standard or super saver shipping speed selected first, the option for Release Date Delivery won't appear (even if you try to change shipping speeds after, the option for release date won't show up anymore).
This is a bug that also occurs if you bought D3CE with another game.
Anyone have this problem too from Amazon, and if you did, did you manage to get it fixed? I tried contacting customer support but they couldn't change it (though I read on the discussion forums, some managed get customer support to change their shipping speed).

I bought CE via amazon and had standard shipping. When I heard about the release date, I checked my email and noticed an eta on shipping. So I went to the shipping and changed the shipping from standard 3-5 day to Release date Shipping.
Also I managed to change the shipping to release date delivery today. So anyone with the bug (if you couldn't select release date delivery before), try changing it now .
I thought of buying several copies as a kind of investment (WoW original unopened collectors CE is going for like 2.5k on ebay/amazon sometimes - I was surprised that this figure would be so high for it), but I figure I will just use my copy of D3 and forget about trying to sell any. It seems like worst case scenario you might break even or make a marginal sum apart from the initial investment, but if WoW is any indication it definitely has potential. If you think about it time frame wise, the WoW collector's was I assume around $100 as well, so 25x investment in 8 years essentially. Only argument against this might be if you feel like you're taking the opportunity to own a CE from someone who may have really wanted one, but I think that it is a weak argument considering the non-CE doesn't really have any volume restrictions (ie: specific # of total copies). Anyways, just sharing my thoughts on here, I figure it would be worthwhile to think about doing with 4-5 copies, but I don't want to speculate with money like that right now. Seems like apart from having your cash tied down for a bit, it would give you a very legitimate return in a relatively short period.
In any case as sj said, I saw Amazon reloaded some copies and as of now they are available there if you want a CE.

There will be many people doing that, and by the time D3 is really old, there will be many copies for sales and you won't make any big profit.

I did this with a few copies of original wow, but it looks like I cashed out way to soon, I got 300$ each about 2 years after release. A lot of people will think about doing this but very few will do it, and many will cash out at 3-4x price, so if you really want to sit on it for 8years then yea you'll stand to make a solid profit.

I mean, this is possible of course, but I think it is still unlikely. At the end of the day, after like the 6 year mark, the odds of having a saturated enough market to cut into your profit is unlikely. If you look at WoW now, there are copies out there, but the amount has not really decreased the price of an unopened original CE from what I can tell. I think as the other poster pointed out a lot of people might try it, and end up cashing out for a more modest 2x-4x type profit. In any case it seems like a good thing to consider seeing as how worst case scenario is even money perhaps.

Keep thinking that
It's quite common to do a 2x sell after two or more years for Blizzard games. I don't know about you but a 100% return in 2-4 years is pretty f good.
hey Europeans where do you order your games from? I do at game.co.uk but I'd like to know if there are some legit alternatives that are safe and reliable

Amazon and Play.com are my go to places. With play.com outside of UK it can be a bit tricky, since you cant accelerate the shipping in any way, and sometimes the merchandise gets delivered late, BUT, thus far I've gotten ME3 and SWTOR on release date.
YOu can always just buy the digital copy and play the minute the servers go live :D

Okay, trying my luck here: I pre-ordered the digital standard version, paid through PayPal, pre-downloaded the client and thought all was fine and dandy. That was 9 days ago. Now, when I log into Bnet it shows the transaction as "complete". However, when I log into PayPal it says "pending", as well as an expiration date for the payment authorization (April 13). My bank account has not been billed yet either.
Has anyone else experienced similar waiting times for the payment to go through? It strikes me as odd, because the official FAQ on Bnet says that they will bill the PayPal account immediately. I thought before filling out a ticket and asking, I'd give good ol' TL a try.
Just a bit worried that I won't get to play as soon as Blizz opens up the servers. Any answers would be much appreciated.

Don't worry, paypal is a slow bitch. Especially if you buy and sell on ebay, it takes like a month to get your money.

this is a big release for me. Not because I was a diehard diablo 2 (and blizzard fan boy) but because if diablo 3 is disappointing, I have no reason to continue to buy blizzard games.
Years ago in a land far away, I'd buy any blizzard release instantly, midnight release and enjoy the shit out of it. WoW since WoTLK, SC2, Bnet 2.0, are all big warning signs to me. I have to give diablo a chance, but if it's not so good, blizzard sinks for me.
I'm scared, nothing used to give me more chills then loading war2bne and seeing the blizzard logo come up. I know I'm seeing everything from rosey colored nostalgia glasses but I find it hard to argue that their game quality hasn't dropped significantly.

GLHF, d3 better not suck.
I actually feel the same way. There was a time I'd blindly buy Blizzard games in a heartbeat with eyes closed, but nowadays, I'm not so sure anymore... I have no doubt the game will be a smashing hit, but the question I find myself asking is: "Will it be fun for me?" I have doubts.
I didn't get beta access being from Europe which totally got the shaft, but I was following D3 very closely. I watched hours upon hours of streams and youtube videos. I've followed the development and the changes they implemented and read up on big D2/3 news sites.
From what I saw, I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to have fun playing this as much as previous Blizzard titles. I'm not sure it will be as addicting, nor either will I sink as many hours into it as I did into D1, WC2, SC BW, D2, WC3 TFT, SC2... And that scares and saddens me =(

There is hardly anything rosey colored with D2 and BW. The fact that D2 has more active games on right now than SC2 does is a testiment to the amazing game that it is.
Yea I'm even further along than you when it comes to this. I never even bought SC2. A friend of mine did (Long since no longer plays it) and I tried it out with him but it turned out a dud like I expected it to. Battle Net 2.0 is just a total wash. The fact that Blizzard touted it as the next generation of online gaming and then delivering...that...just makes me slightly bitter.
I am still debating whether I will even buy D3.
I used to be an extremely avid Blizzard fan and SC2 was the FIRST game of theirs I did not purchase. Basically what D3 is to you Wrath of the Lich King was for me. I just didn't buy into the whole "well trust blizzard they haven't failed us before." Bnet 2.0 just felt fundamentally different than the blizzard I grew up with.
I want to give Diablo 3 a chance, I really do but buying it almost enforces to blizzard that what they did was correct. They succeeded and got my money, why would they care otherwise?

It could go either way, but unless after 6 years that people are stilling willing to pay $400-500 for a D3 CE will be next to none. Plus you will have several competitors selling the same thing and they will mostly likely have a much lower price. Same thing with FFX unopened, they go for $500-700 on ebay, but who really buys them? Nobody. It is just absolutely overpriced to the point where it is ridiculously retarded. Unless you are filthy RICH, got money to buy and an avid game collector, nobody would buy those.

Almost every one of you will get it. Especially if you're here talking about it.
I agree. To be honest, it is just a matter of when they will buy it. I know all my friends who play games will get it, some said they will buy it upon release, some said they will wait a little.
I finally managed to convince myslef that D3 is not gonna suck, despite all the stupid stuff that Blizzard has done. I am excited for release and has a week vacation planned for the release day. I really like that they focus on large variety of items and that they implemented inferno dificulty.

When the game comes out I don't need you, boi. Archangel Tyrael with the forces of the Light will be my help!!

A lot of my friends have taken a week of leave for the D3 release. I didn't do it this time around, but I did back when sc2 was first released
I have a hard time believing we will finally be able to put this game in our hands. It's kind of unreal, like it was with Duke Nukem Forever, even if the game was bad.
Next on the list will be Half life 3 I guess.. But it's a long shot.
Comes out two weeks after my semester ends. Problem, other universities? Lol.
Currently, I'm trying to play as much of the Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction expansion before the release. I played the original Diablo 2 on normal, up until I killed Diablo himself, then I just got bored with the game. But it's awesome to revisit the game with my spare time, and the expansion adds tons of awesome gameplay! Such a good decision on my part.
The question is if the servers will be available right on 15.5.2012. I heard that SC2 servers were not available for 2-3 days after release due to huge overload from all the users downloading and trying to connect. I planned a free week since 15.5.2012 so i really hope i won't be dissapointed.

No one but you can answer that unless you give some more information about yourself. They are different types of games, just pick the genre you like the most.

I've played D2 and GW before. They honestly felt very similar (instanced and such). I haven't read much about D3 and what's new about it really and was just curious.

Combat is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. The game I played the most in my life is GW, and simply because of that I want D3 more than Gw2, I want a whole other feel to the game. D2 and GW have nothing in common as well. GW is all about changin builds(like d3 kinda is) but d2 is all about miss a point/dont know a good build and your char is fucked lol.

Combat does feel different I guess. I guess I meant like they're the same genre of games, aside from Diablo not having MMO like towns. Like grouping and instancing and dungeon crawling felt pretty similar.
