I am pretty much out of money atm (damn enchanting!). But would it be worth to keep throwing money at it to change the +732 int to a good +critical hit damage roll? Or is that change in fact worse for my dps? stats without either according to your profile: 7.2k int, 45cc, 320cd. +700 int gives you (7.2+0.7)/7.2 = 1.1 about 10% more damage +80% cd gives you (1 + 0.45*4)/(1 + 0.45*3.2) = 1.15 about 15% more damage. So rerolling to a high cd will give you about 5% more damage. But it'll also give you 70 less AR, and more variable damage output. As you are low on money, I'd save it for more important rerolls, and come back to that later if you still want that extra 5%. Who knows, maybe you will even find a better ammy before that, with both int and cd. I think my calculations are accurate, but it'd be good if someone could confirm, thanks. Thanks a lot! forget the amulet. replace attack speed on magefist with some crit chance.

Yeah the combo works, but the damage it does is neglectable.
I changed both the magefist (to 9,5%) as the amulet (got a bad roll with +56% dmg), but it is a pretty substantial increase in dps. Thanks for the advice.

This is my mage. Not sure why it is showing "chaos nexus" rune instead of "entropy" but whatever. I'd appreciate some gear advice I am playing hardcore, so I am obviously playing more defensive than usual. I am at around 15 million toughness and don't want to go much lower. Better save than sorry.

Why Electrify and Ice Armor? I could see why if you were using Elemental Exposure, but you aren't.

only substantial upgrade would be getting 2 unity rings and getting the 50% dmg reduction at all times. only works in solo game though

Ice armor because it keeps me from dying, frozen champions cant kill you! Electrify because it proccs the lightning meteor from tal rasha. the 20% damage rune would probably be better in general, but i like meteors falling from the sky.

Better save than sorry. replace one tal armory item with tals amu to keep the tals set bonus. use the freed up armory space and the bracers slot to replace them with 2 items from aughilds set. with the ring of grandeur, this will grant you 7% melee and ranged damage reduction, 15% damage reduction from elites as well as 15% bonus damage to elites. if i were you, i would even give up 4 piece tals for this and settle with 3p tals.
your leorics signet is very nice, but a soj with arcane damage would be better imho. other than that, your gear is already very close to ideal. gratz, really some juicy stuff!

That was actually my plan once I actually find a tals amu :D I'd also rather have a slow weapon instead of this fast beast so the meteors deal more damage. Meteors are fun.

Just found a small but rather effective skill/item synergy, wanted to share.
Coupled a Pride's fall with Magic weapon - Deflection for nearly infinite arcane power. I play HC, so most monster attacks don't break 8k damage in one hit, and arcane torrent refreshes the shield like no tomorrow. I literally keep the buff up for minutes.

It works with the other shielding passives as well. I'm using Galvanizing Ward with it.

I'm using dominance, since it is constantly refreshing the shield feels almost endless. It's great.

imho dominance becomes utter garbage once you play in a torment difficulty high enough so that fights against elites or bosses regularly take more than 10 seconds....

My problem with Dominance is that it feels useful in the situations where you need it least and useless in the ones you need it most. Deflection and Galvanizing Ward feel much more reliable in that regard. The times where you reliably get to kill monster after monster to keep the shield up simply aren't the situations where you actually need that extra survivability because if you're repeatedly killing monsters for the shield return, you're also triggering basically every other healing mechanism available (globes, life on hit/kill, etc.). Particularly on Hardcore where you're going to be gearing/playing such that the stuff that could kill you is extremely exceptional (multiple elites/champions with dangerous affix combinations), most of those threats are the kind of stuff that you won't get to proc Dominance on.

i played around with a low gear level wiz in hc. dominance actually does help in some of the most dangerous situations. vortex into a bunch of elites with deadly ground effects and waller is about as bad as it gets. now, usually you'll still kill some stragglers in that bunched up group and a couple refreshes of the shield can help you wait out the waller.
single target enemies are usually not that dangerous provided you don't disconnect.

nonetheless, i think that galvanizing ward suffers from the same issue, even though to a much lesser degree. the really dangerous situations are typically those where you cant run away or avoid being hit, so that the ward will not refresh once it runs out. thats why my personal favorite for hc is magic weapon with deflection. it provides a sort of protection that can constantly be refreshed.
btw for hc, i also prefer unwavering will over unstable anomaly since the former is much more useful in a d/c situation. and if shit really hits the fan, so that you have to either die or power through, it increases the chance of being able to do so. it also helps when you get jailed or frozen or walled in.

I don't actually run Galvanizing Ward for the survivability on my HC Wizard, it's solely there to work with Pride's Fall--which it does better than the other shielding passive simply because it's method of generation synergizes better with Pride's Fall.
TBH if you want a pure survivability passive on HC, I don't think anything outperforms Blur. The toughness numbers you're running around with in HC make it such that a 17% reduction on everything is for the most part going to be better than the fixed benefit of a shield.

you are right, galvanizing has the best synergy with prides fall. for channeling builds, deflection might be great too. also note the nice synergy between unwavering will and deflection for channeling builds with prides fall. unwavering basically increases the strength of the deflection shield by 44%.

What's strange is that I've posted about a month ago how I'd love to have a Moonlight Ward and an arcane SoJ, but also how that is pretty close to impossible to drop in a reasonable timeframe.
Here I am now with an arcane SoJ and a cc MW, but both of those rolled the absolute minimum fixed stats (15% arcane/25% elite damage on SoJ, 20% arcane on MW). Must be something about karma.

i assume damage mitigation applies to your shield as well as hp, correct?

You got both the items you wished for, and got a good random roll on one of them! How can you complain about bad karma? >_>
The things people here complain about... driving me a bit crazy.
edit: what you SHOULD post is:
