I don't agree with that at all. You don't necessarily contribute the same damage, but if you're itemizing for enough survivability, being able to tank and let Wizards and DH's stand-and-fire is a big deal.
The difference between how much damage a DH or Wiz can do while kiting and how much they can do while standing and firing with a tank taking the heat is HUGE.

You can't, sorry.
Meh.
I'm not up to Inferno yet. crms is the one in this thread who has experience tanking up to Inferno Act 2.
I can't say anything about how it might compare to other classes, but the fact that people are as far as he is (and the fact that he has no problem soloing) at least indicates that it's not unplayable.

He means, as in, you're not going to be sitting there generating aggro like this is an MMO.
You can be tanky and beefy and just turn Inferno into an act of attrition.
This actually looks like a really good build. I've really run into a brick wall in hell mode. Currently I'm at the third act, mostly through hopping on co-up games with friends or public. Playing alone gets me killed a lot. I'm guesstimating that I've died 200ish times or so. Is there anyone who's completed the game as a barbie who could link their build?
Edit. Tried out the build, and it's really really good. Best one I've tried so far. A major problem with barbies in general is that they're so item dependant. It seems like a good idea to have a main witch doctor and then work on a barbie on the side while buying things from the AH to make him able to do stuff in hell+. The second and third act especially are infernos of hellish nightmares.
I was going with a Full rage build since ACT 3 Normal. The down side of this is you kill rare packs quite slow. So I keep either Wrath of the Berserker of some big killing. WOTB scales really well with Ingore Pain.
I am in Hell right now, and seeing how difficult rare packs on Inferno are I don't think Barb can tank at all, Armor and HP doesn't matter since many do magic damage and still can kill you pretty fast. I think in order to Barb to tank, you need some full resist gear while still keeping a very high Vit and Str. Not gonna happen w/o some intensive farming though.

Yeah, imo Monks seem like much much much better tanks than barbies. Barbies are frankly not really good at anything. Monks are better tanks, demon hunters are better damage dealers and witch doctors are better soloers..
Edit. Monks are obviously better tanks as dexterity can make you dodge like crazy, whereas barbs don't have anything that's really good defensively.. blocking is kinda shit.
Edit. Speaking of bad tanking, anyone else who's had the weirdest sleep schedule of a life time this weekend? I woke up at 21, stayed up all night, went to bed at 03am the next day, woke up at 10am, and now I'm still awake at 0745 am...

Normal is not hard. Try nightmare with a two-hander and you will get owned just like the rest of us.
Honestly I would love two-handers to be great for barbs but it just doesnt seem like it.
TBH, I had quite an easy time with 2h in nm. But I must admit I had to change to shield in hell.
Vs bosses (can vary depending on boss but its usually.) Frenzy - Smite Whirlwind - Hurricane (The manuverability seemed more reliable for getting out of stuff then leap)
Playstyle; Basically i frequently use war cry for the fury and try to keep my fury low as much as possible with seismic slam. War cry gives a good chunk of regen with the passive/rune and a decent health boost. Ignore pain is on a 30 second cooldown may aswell use it frequently i tend to pop it if i hit less then 50% health in a pull (unless im saving it for a specific mechanic in a fight. Also pop revenge at every possibility.
Dont know if this is any use to anyone but its what i do and it's been quite successful. Now if only i can beat the lag/disconnect boss(i played a lot in the 1st 2 days but havent played too much since).

No you are not. Throw in Wrath of the Berserker and you may be invincible for some short few seconds
I have 88% reduction from armour (~22K armour) with leap buff up. If anything does significant damage to you then you'd better hope it's not going to hit you when leap armour is down.
I also have 70k hp. I get absolutely mauled by the first pack of elites in inferno... T_T
Frenzy - Triumph (heals 8% after a kill) for packs, Sidearm for solo targets. Ignore Pain - Ignorance is bliss (20% lifesteal while its up) < unbelievably good on inferno elites. Ground stomp - Wrenching smash (increases range+mini vortex) Revenge - Provocation (higher procs) War Cry - Invigorate (heals) Wrath of the berserker - Insanity (100% dmg)
I use 1h+shield, and my build aims to heal me as much as possible while still doing decent dps. My general strategy for tougher elites so far has been to stun them in a decent position, (that is, no shit on the floor under them) pop wrath of the berserker, use ignore pain right when the stun wears off, and heal up with Revenge+Ignorance is bliss... 20% of the damage dealt while Ignore pain and Wrath of the berserker are up together is a LOT of life. This is working for me pretty well, I only have real trouble when I run into blatantly OP anti-barb elites, some of the nasty ones just aren't possible, at least with my gear atm, so I skip them
Would be interested to see what other barbs are having success with, on solo inferno.

Interestingly I came to a very similar conclusion to your build.
However I use a bit more CC: Sprint with Gangway (run around knocking things) Seismic slam with shattered ground (big knockback) This then synergises brilliantly with relentless (no rage cost and 50% less dmg when under 20% health) so I can knockback kite any mobs that are really tricky.

Well, I'm not playing solo, but in a group. I'm using allmost the same skills as you except i'm using Rend with the heal rune instead of Ground stomp since my group got the stuns going. I found that the rend ability really helps keeping me alive quite a lot on groups with several enemies. . As far as i've experienced the barbarian in lategame is all about the self-heal. Eventhough i got about 60k hp with about 70% damage reduction (can't check right now since eu is down >_> ) I still get smashed on act 2 though xD
Got to the 7th part of Act 2 by skipping a lot. but we are currently farming some more gear since we don't really like that method.
