"Crusaders are unbending champions of faith and law. These living fortresses use impenetrable plate and towering shields to wade through scores of foes, leaving demonic bodies smoldering in their wake."
Some key class features:- Crusaders use strength as their main stat, and almost always use shields.
- Their class specific equipment are flails, both 1-hand and 2-hand variations, and crusader shields.
- Crusaders have a passive that will allow them to use a 2-hand weapon and a shield at the same time, for a small 15% movement speed penalty.
- A large portion of Crusader skills have cooldowns. All but one of their non primary and secondary skills have a cooldown.
- The Crusader was designed with the Diablo 2 Paladin as a model, so some skills and general game play will be similar (they are not Paladins though, from the lore they are entirely separate if not hostile toward each other).
- Crusaders can be played as melee or ranged, or a mix of both.
- Crusaders do NOT get the 30% damage reduction that barbarians and monks do, because they are balanced around using a shield and being more of a walking tank that does a lot of damage. As of patch 2.0.4 they do get a 15% damage reduction.
- Their resource is Wrath. Wrath is slowly generated while not in battle, and is also generated from primary skills, blocking attacks, and being hit hard. Quite like Fury really.

There's also the short story for the crusader. On mobile so I can't root around for it, but it was quite enjoyable.

Did anyone keep up with the beta and has information on some of the better builds?

In the latest hotfix they changed Akarat's Champion so that damage over time triggers the revive, so hopefully that is fixed but it might only be part of the problem so still be careful.

That's the build I'm using on my Crusader right now. It's got a few heavy hitting cooldowns for elites and a lot of burst damage, with steed for some extra movement for bounties that can be changed for more offense or defense if needed. Smite with the Reaping rune and Renewal passive gives me some health regen, but I might change Renewal to something else until I get a bit more block. Blessed Hammer with Thunderstruck kills pretty much everything else and doesn't use much wrath at all so there are no wrath generation problems at all with this build. The biggest weakness is sustained damage for sure though, so if I waste my cooldowns on an elite with shielding or just miss-target it takes a lot longer to kill things.

The Crusader is wonderfully OP at the moment. So much fun to play either with a fast 1h and shield or 2h and shield

Can anyone confirm how Holy Cause passive works? Does it boost your dmg if your equipped weapon has holy dmg on it, or does it boost your dmg if you use holy dmg skills?

It boosts the damage on a weapon that has Holy damage on it. If the weapon adds 1k holy damage the passive will increase that to 1100 damage.
It's a very minor damage buff, completely unnoticeable at lower levels.
The 1% healing effect however is very nice.

Weird cus hit Akarat's Champion + have decent life on hit and you can stand there and whale away and basically ignore incoming damage 90% of the time. For me anyway. And even when AC is on cooldown I've had few problems on Master Difficulty so far, maybe when I hit 70 and turn it up to the Torment levels it'll be different.

My current T1 build. It is fantastic in groups with 100% crit and 100% crit damage on elites allowing for some insane burn. Obviously this builds regen is based on holy damage on weapon, and 1% hp regen on hit, so it really doesn't work without a solid holy weapon.

Opinions on this build? I found this badass shield so I decided to do the whole shield thing. No idea what to think of it as I haven't really tried much of the Crusader's skill set. Found an Andariel so now I'm kinda locked into using a fire skill ^_^
Also what sort of baselines are there for Torment? I feel like I could probably tank it already, but I don't even do enough damage to make it worthwhile ^_^

You can enchant that and get another damage type; I found a cold andariel on my crusader and switched the property out for holy damage on my first try.
I don't know about baselines, but my crusader only started feeling good doing T1 when I hit around 550k paper dps (and +35% holy damage). Though there are still some elites that annoy the shit out of me.

The only being able to enchant once worries me though. What if I start playing a demon hunter and want a dex andariel

Holy hell. My brother playing his crusader for the 2nd day managed to get a weapon that +2 rays to Holy ray, then a shield that -45% cd off holy ray. With his own 30% cdr, his ray is now on a 7sec cooldown. Considering that the ray last for 4sec(3?) he pretty much can spam his ray all day long.
Those 2 legendaries are insane for crusaders i think?

with defensive passives on around 8m Tough and 500k dps sheeth
On t1 I can kill elites between 1-5seconds, my combo of Judgement,Law and Bombardment can 1shot most blue packs and will take away ~80% of Yellow packs
The only problem is that my trash clearing is a bit slow and that I have trouble clearing out Act bosses/Rift bosses since they have a ton of hp and my combo is only up like once every minute or so.
oh yeah and you move like a slug ;;.

Yeah I was thinking of doing something like that, with stacking cooldown, but it's probably going to get nerfed because of that dumb barbarian build king kongor uses. :/
