I could buy her influencing one person over an extended period of time, but not everyone she talks to after a few minutes. Why did it take her so long to get out if she was that powerful?
I think so as well. If she manipulated someone over a longer period, it would - while still a strech - be within what I could accept.

I don't like the show anymore. It's too much pseudo science and bullshit going on. The show should have ended when Sherlock jumped. RIP Sherlock

Last episode seriously freaked me the fuck out... I agree with what other people are saying... Sherlock was so much better when it was just about Holmes and Watson solving crimes and kicking ass. Now it's just gotten... Bizarre...

I have to say I'm a little surprised with the reaction people have with new episodes. I haven't seen the new stuff because I gave up after season 2, mostly for similar reasons that people cite now. I can accept the show just isn't for me, but I'm not sure I understand why people are bringing up the issues only now.
Even in the highest rated episodes (according to imdb) it felt like the cases were kind of lost in the middle of everything else and solutions were streching the credibility too far to be enjoyable. Moriarty seemed to succeed more because the script made it happen - often in very vaguely explained ways - instead of actually showing him doing anything creative, intelligent or well calculated.
Are the new seasons just pushing the same issues further or is there something else that turned the show from brilliant to disappointing? Do the early seasons look different now or are they still as brilliant as before?

Moriarty episodes pushed the boundaries of realism, but the latest episodes have gone far beyond it. Now he solves season 1 style cases in 2 seconds of screen time and a bit of text on the screen summarizing the case that is too fast to even read consistently and the villains have capabilities that would fit better in a super hero comic book with plot lines that remind me of the most far fetched of James Bond movies. Sherlock's sister made Moriarty look like a moron in comparison, and in an escalating attempt to make mental gymnastics more impressive her mental abilities were on par with Kilgrave from Marvel's Jessica Jones.

i dont get wtf happened in this ep, how can she just control people? what there was like no explanation other than she can get into their heads, other than actually magical mindcontrol how can she plant all these actions in their head
Moriarty who was amazing because it was portrayed as a super equally smart genius but for evil, got brainwashed into recording shit for the sister??? (in 5mins) ...also they explained away that mycroft cant be brained washed because he knows her but Sherlock doesnt....so why doesnt she just control him and i dont even get the point of everything she did. Cause she was lonely? wtf please ret-con this because i love the show but this ep (and because of it in part the whole season) is just a mind fuck

I feel very disappointed by the return of Moriarty. All the other things and holes you've mentioned in here I can live with. But building up for a "Final Problem" created by Moriarty in the end of Season 3 and "The abominable bride" just to destroy the whole character in 3 minutes of an episode was a bit sad.
Edit: Small side note, the whole manuplating staff into killing their own family, didn't they do something like that in Hannibal already? I know they mentioned "Silence of the lambs" literally 1 minute before that reveal but it felt a bit copy-paste anyway. Or is my memory failing me?

She and Moriarty found common ground in finding a fun playmate in Sherlock, plus they are both evil and get bored easily. I don't think she mind controlled him, but that he agreed to help her as he knew if his plan failed, she would prove a highly competent backup to beat Sherlock postmortem. I believe Moriarty had a large hand in putting the prison under her control, using his vast network to infiltrate it somehow. I doubt she just mind controlled the whole of the prison guards, but it was a very ambiguous episode.. so I dunno. It was starting to feel like X-men there for a bit, I will admit. =P

I was worried for this season from the first episode when Sherlock fought toe-to-toe with an elite ex-mercenary. Maybe I've forgotten but when did Sherlock get MMA training?
Putting off watching the last ep... doesn't sound good.

The best part of the finale is that it didn't end on a cliffhanger and can just be; hopefully it resets into what the first three seasons--minus the third episode of season three---were.

Just finished watching the last season
and yes, while there is supposed to be a 5th season coming SOME DAY, this one ends like if the show actually ended, and if thats the case, the finale was superb.
i loved Sherlock, and is easily one of the best shows ive ever seen
