I would also argue that the story has some pacing issues, after the band of the hawk arc (what the anime covers) it feels like a lot of the arcs move at a snail's pace with some of them not seeming to have a lot of repercussions to the main story. The main goal of Gutt's band right now is to get Casca to the Elfking so he can supposedly cure her mental deterioration and we've been trying to get there for it seems like over ten years (the manga has been going since 1988 I believe). A good example of the storyline malaise is what's happening right now, I don't understand how the island there on with the sea monsters/pirate monsters factors into anything, I really don't.
I am looking forward to the new anime/ova/whatever that they're putting together though. I like the style of the story if nothing else.
Yeah, I'm sure if we were to go back and read the more recent events five years down the road the pacing will seem much better. The breaks are such a killer though =/
Like I said before though, you gotta give things time. Miura is the best of the best, he won't let us down. Retribution seemed to have little to do with things until we got smacked in the face with + Show Spoiler +
Griffith's rebirth.
I think Miura's had his hands in the movies for a while now though, and its been eating into his manga time. He is no slacker, he doesn't take breaks for no reason.
This may just be me, but I had to drag myself through the first section of this manga. The story finally got good when they meet Griffith at the dying smith's house and set off. Everything before that was pretty much mindless killing with an uninpressive storyline.
Now, I am really starting to like the characters, rather than hating pretty much all of them. While the story has become a bit more generic, the characters now have pretty good developement and the setting is epic.
The last ~15 chapters have brought this manga from a 7.5 to a 9.5.
If the heartbeat has a force stronger than a cannon, would cutting it with a sword result in an explosion of blood strong enough to kill Gatts? The scale of the sea god is truly a scary thing.
the drawings, the expression(of faces, the thoughts, the stories, the characters and the most important is the love that guts have towards caska. It truly is amazing for such a man to fights his ass off, i'd say no more, this manga, can-not-be-missed.

the very first chapters of manga started wayyyyyyyyyyy back in the day.
you can clearly see the drawings improvement while reading through manga.
I think the manga started like, at least, 15years ago

lol more like 22 years ago I think.. but still good manga except it's being to turn on to a meh fest like what some one said with all the side quest.. I think this is going to take around 10 more years to finish since the other 4 gods hasn't been explained well or why are they gods like griffith.

I feel like I am sucking up all the fossil fuel in the world; it takes hundreds of millions of years to form and only 200 years of heavy use to consume.
Trailer for the new 2012 Berserk movie ! Im so excited for this !
It looks awesome but I dont think they can do the whole golden age arc in just 3 movies without cutting some parts of the story unless they are doing 2-3 hour long movies.
I was getting really worried about Gatts, but it looks like the Merrow are going to help him out. Maybe he wont have completely squashed eternal organs and eyes after all this. The sea monster is so awesome. I love it.
i swear kenta miura infuriates me almost as much as kubo tite, we never know for certain when he's gonna take another indefinite break and leave us hanging again, it almost makes me think that he is doing it on purpose. so pretty much he's been trolling us for the past 2 decades.... >.>

There are some censored bits though, rest assured the theatrical version is violent as hell though.
All I hope is that Griffith gets taken down in the most cruelest way you can imagine, and then multiplying that by an infinity factor. That and Guts getting together with Casca

fuck, that looks good!
Yeah, I was worried about the CGI at first, but when you see an entire army fully animated at a high frame rate rather than pans over still shots it all seems worth it.
A few people on skullkight.net already saw it and said it was absolutely amazing, and even with the cut content it's still great.
I didn't expect anything, but when I saw link for a new chapter I nearly had heart attack. And then I almost had a second one when I saw "continues feb 10th!", but I just can't die until I see the end of this.
It is one of my first mangas (it's pretty much what got me into reading mangas after animes cliffhanger), I remember reading it until my eyes would hurt, taking some sleep and reading it again. So realistically merciless. I read it just for story, but now.. Now after looking at bleach and some other mangas I just take my time to appreciate details and effort put into every page.
I don't demand new chapters or plot development, I simply appreciate it. I'm a happy man.
(Its still weird to see Guts hang out with bunch of kids, but as we know, nothing lasts forever, especially around Guts)
Ehh Berserk is boring nowadays. The release schedule is too slow and they're fighting some enemies of no consequence. Also the ending is kinda predictable: Guts kills Grifith and then kills himself. Or atleast thet's my take on it.
