No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.
Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers. |

There must be things you personally hate but can acknowledge the work's quality and the legitimacy of fan support.
For me: Halo, Wuthering Heights, The Wire, Citizen Kane ..

You said watch the first four but two was enough for me. I'm sorry but I don't see how this is as amazing as people make it out to be.

In this picture you can find one girl, one midget, one guy holding what appears to be a pen in his mouth
And a guy in a slick suit.
Unfortunately I'd rather self insert a catheter than watch this. I'd love it if someone could explain to me what the hell is going on. This has left me very confused.

Yeah, I've been wondering: how did the viewer base shift towards the older males demographic? I don't get it :O I've just been seeing a lot of people mention this, memes pop up, etc.

I'll be honest, the first four are not the best representation of the series, its how a lot of us started, but perhaps a better introduction would be #14, #11 or maybe even #25, either way, you at least tried it out ^_^

I watched through episode 5 to see what the jokes were all about, and it's definitely enjoyable. I never actually laughed out loud, but found myself smiling through most of it. It's undeniably well-written, and IMO all of the haters never gave it a chance, whether or not they watched it and claimed to have an open mind. Sure, there are plenty of other things I'd rather watch, but to call it "gay" or "stupid" is just being a macho douche. "Childish" is definitely correct, but what's wrong with that?

As with most things, the show is neither as good as its most ardent supporters say nor as bad as its detractors claim. It's a show that's innocent, devoid of the cynicism prevalent in so many others today, even those such as Spongebob. It's fine if you can't enjoy that, or find it childish and stupid, or not worth your time. But to those that appreciate it, It really is a pleasant experience.
The reason a lot of people watch MLP is not so much the character development and plot. Those are both essentially par for the course. Replace the ponies with normal anime-ish characters and the entire thing is decidedly average. The atmosphere is what makes the difference, which is what I suspect to be the cause of the huge divide in opinions.

Hmmm. I just watched this first episode posted in the OP. Maybe I have to watch another episode or two to "get it". I don't see what is so fascinating about it at all.

Basically, the reason people like this show is due to the mixture of feelings.
The fear of getting discovered by someone you know. The childish feeling of watching such an innocent show, remembering your own childhood The laughter of mixing "internet"(your information) with the show(ex. one character is seen as a pure Troll, and even nicknamed Trollestia) The optimistic feeling that comes from the message that the show spreads - which is about friendship and how everything can be solved with it, instead of the usual "everyone is a dick, everyone die, everyone kills" you get from your everyday newspaper. Think about watching "Friends".
And finally, the stereotypes. There is ALWAYS someone who is very smart(Twilight), tries as hard as possible to be pretty/beautiful/handsome/perfect(Rarity), someone who you can always count on(Applejack), someone who is extremely competitive(Rainbow Dash), someone who is introspective and afraid of everything[emotionallly](Fluttershy), and finally, someone who is completely non-sense(Pinkie Pie). Although all of this is common for a normal cartoon, MLP somehow uses that in a very different, comical and silly way that just captivates the usual viewer.
Also, if you don't know why people do something, remember that they do it for the lulz.

Anyways, what you see is what you get. That's just them being... them.

I have watched the first few episodes and all I can say now is Apple Jack FTW...
This is surprisingly good!!

I saw the whole thing, really fun show, the kind of show I wished I watched as a kid instead of the crap I actually did. It's smart, funny, and looks pretty great.
The overall flow of the show has some problems though, there needs to be more continuity between episodes, I always get sad when they introduce a side character in one episode and never bring them back for any other, or introduce a concept such as "pinky sense" and never mention it again. I'm also disappointed at the lack of male characters in the main cast and there's no real reason why they couldn't add more to make their peripheral demographic a bit less so.
Still, it's a near perfect retro cartoon I really enjoy regardless, even if I'm not really a part of this whole "brony" shit that's going on the internet. Looking forward to the second season.

Watched the first episode. My emotions went like this, in this order: 1. WTF am I watching? 2. Is anyone here? 3. Why is she using such big words on a kids show. 4. K that was pretty funny. 5. Maybe I should watch the second one 6. Crap someone is coming!!! 7. OK that was really funny 8. What's wrong with me?!?!?!?!

Ah, thanks. I honestly am just completely apathetic towards this lol...no interest or opinion on it whatsoever other than that it is slightly annoying for me.

This is awesome. I still like Fairly OddParents, Phineas and Ferb or Wow Wow Wubbzy more, but definitely would watch it over SpongeBob or 90% of the "adult" crap on TV today.
Reminds me a bit of Sea Princesses but much more polished.

The guy wearing top hat who's staring into your soul.
Honestly, I first started watching the show because I loved the novelty of thinking "ahaha, I'm watching My Little Pony". That wore off after a while and I actually started really liking the show, though after a period of a couple months my interest in ponies has dwindled to ambivalence.
It's an okay show. The best part is the facial expressions >_>
