I already wrote quite a bit why I think this movie isn't quite as bad as hardcore trekkis tend to think so I won't answer to that. But this is somewhat hilarious. The only decent TNG movie was "first contact".

The Problem the Trek verse has is that it not getting into new territory and is instead is rehashing old story-lines that are deemed safer in regards to the box office. The Universe desperately needs a new tv show.

When I was a kid I saw a decent bit of (I think) all of the star trek series (like four or five of em?) and maybe one or two movies. I never really got the bigger picture because I only saw a loose episode here and there. So I guess I could say I was reasonably acquainted with the Star Trek universe.
I have always appreciated and respected Star Trek as a genre and think that especially some of the TV episodes have shown downright brilliance and awesomeness in them.
Having said that, I just gotta be blunt here: I always felt that Star Trek at so many times was trying to do things with their shows or movies that TV business wasn't ready for. I was usually excited by their innovative storylines and fiction, but on the other hand (almost) always dissapointed by the visual aspect. Having a huge build up for "mysterious alien X" only to find out that it was bunch of guys in tight blacks suits and a mask that looked like a plastified spagetthi with meatballs dish was stuck to their face. It's like the TV equivalent of a game like dwarf fortress or magic the gathering (I guess). It is amazing gameplay visually wrapped in a turd, making it very unappealing for most people (like me).
That's why I think this Star Trek movie is awesome, because it gives a refreshing new look on the Star Trek universe. It proves that it doesn't have to be weird, dusty, and over the top nerdy. I think for this same reason these movies will not really appeal to hardcore Star Trek fans, but will be an eye opener for a lot of people who never gave this franchise (which I think is awesome at heart) an honest chance.
I hope that this could spark the public's interest enough to validate a new series because I personally also think that would be awesome.

Just watched it and it was ok but i think there was a lot of wasted potential. The ending was really bad and rushed. Spock just goes after Khan, fights him 1on1 and takes him out (with a little bit of help yeah yeah). I don't know anything about Star Trek but i thought Khan would wipe floors with Spock. Khan's blood saving the day was poorly done aswell and seen from a mile away. Khan was cool and Benedict is a terrific actor. On the other hand Alice Eve can't act at all and the 2 seconds of her would've been all that was needed.
It was quite good entertainment but no need to rewatch it, like ever.

Agreed. I think a movie about the original eugenics was would be far more interesting, and relevant to current style of movie making/sci fi writing. I'm thinking the Dune prequel book series as inspiration how to write a prequel.

Speaking of Dune, random tangent
They need to make a movie series based on Dune that doesn't suck. With/without the prequels is fine, but I'd definitely like to see the 6 original books done.

The movie was decent. Cumberbatch made Khan so cool that I was rooting for him. Having said that this is not "Star Trek". It's an action film set in the Star Trek universe.

I can't find any theater that still show the movie I guess I'll have to find another solution (Arrrr)

Despite being fairly bland, this was a Star Trek movie and gave sufficient nerdchills to not be hated.

A tv show focused on Riker's later life as a Captain would be phenomenal and would be the thing needed to give the genre a boost. Hell the network could just get a license to print money it would be that popular.
