Have no idea how the cop found woodrugh at the exit... srsly, how the fuck?
I like that they changed the part of the song for the opening. I don't really know why, but I like the touch

The mood of the show is pretty spot on. The dialogue obviously comes off a bit forced a lot of the time and much of the scenes involve drawn out shots of the characters but I actually think that the actors pull it off well most of the time, and the score usually helps fill the void a bit aurally. The cinematography is nothing special really but it also doesn't get in the way of telling the story well. They've certainly set themselves up for quite the finale. Much of the impact of the story hinges on how well this final episode is pulled off. Season 1 of True Detective had more going for it than this one at this point, but the ending really tied it up well for me, personally. Perhaps this post puts me in the minority, but I'm not as critical of this show as many seem to be. I suppose the minimalist philosophy and film-noir mood appeal to me.

Just wanted to add that s1 was a great piece of tv. Really makes you "believe" in storytelling again (this within "north'murica tv" granted, which leads to many tedious perennial pitfalls), hope s2 is as good (not holding my breath, as most "first works" are often best works ever. Also, why so many spoilers in this thread? I'm not bothered, just wondering why no efforts from posters, whereas these series are clearly "spoilerable" material being crime/mystery/etc stories.

Every TV show thread is full of spoilers if you're not up to date. Think of them as LR threads for fans. People want to discuss the latest episode so just stay out till you've watched it. The only thread where spoilers are an issue is the GoT one because of book spoilers.

I'd also point out that people are spoiling plot points but basically ignoring the mystery that underlies the entire show. It is pretty rare in this thread for anyone to comment on the actual case and how they think the villains are related or how it will all come together. Probably says a lot about this season that so few people have latched on to the very convoluted background that the protagonists are trying to untangle.

I liked Ep1... Building up background is fine but at some point the plot needs to get going and imho this season takes waaaay too long for that.

Fucking coincidences. It's lazy storytelling. Plot twists for the sake of plot twists. I personally have mixed feelings between it being the dumbest blackmail trope of all and having the believability of being the softest spot on the team. It's like the system is so corrupt that they have drugged up sex orgies with insanely dirty business deals and they're willing to kill a state's attorney, and he's afraid of having a couple grainy gay photos leak out? I feel like he could easily do the math that this is 2015 and after the madness he's experienced in the last few episodes, being gay is really the least of his problems. I'd also have to point out that man, this show really emphasizes the important of police unions. It cannot be this easy to explain away the shooting deaths of several police officers and a state's attorney.

I meant people don't spoiler and that seems wrong. Sorry, I'm old.

Well that dialogue between Velcoro and Semyon in the bar was notoriously bad too. It sounds like the beggining of a bad joke: "So, two english department professors walk into a shady as fuck pub, and one says to the other: - There's a certain stridency at work here. I'm going to put it off to you getting blasted, Ray. - Oh, Frank, frankly...I'm apoplectic, says the second professor. - I'm feeling a little apoplectic myself..." Now you finish the joke. Maybe one of them tells the other that "sometimes your worst self is your best self, if you know what I mean?" at some point.

It was a little convenient that the policeman was at the exact exit Woodrugh used, but it could be explained. We don't know how many different exits the station had, maybe that was the only exit in the direction Woodrugh was running. I guess it comes down to if you want to belive it was possible or not. I hope it will be a great final episode. I'm really looking forward to it.

Definitely have a mixed opinion of the season overall, but still wanna check out another one if they do one (especially cause I think they learn from this one).

But what a lackluster journey to this ending.
