Rick is an alcoholic scientist who creates things like alternate reality portal guns and flying saucers. Morty is his 14 year old grandson that he usually drags along on his adventures. It's pretty wacky and over the top, but it also hits on a deeper level on occasion. The animators also draw ballsacks on most of the aliens/monsters.

It's not sourced to the reddit (where the writer's posted a thread on king jellybean), but I really like the king jelly bean rationalization :p http://rickandmorty.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Jellybean It's always good when scifi--regardless of it being humorous, serious, whatever--have nonhuman characters act & think in nonhuman ways.

There was an opportunity to do so much more with the gender jokes, which could've and should've been more subtle than relying on cliches. Also, it seemed like they missed the boat on the Morty side of things, which could've become a much better plot device in the future.

Lots of subtle and not so subtle jokes in there. Lucius: Jesus, what a waste of a Monkey paw. Pluto Scientist: Used to power things from diamond cars to golden showers. edit: Also, I love how they start the episodes- so classy. e.g. "He creates a robot capable of questioning its own existence and it's just there to pass him butter. And how it tosses the butter down later...I love this show." "Okay 60 for the resonator and my grandson wants the sex robot"

Best episodes: Meeseeks and Destroy M. Night Shaym-Aliens! Something Ricked This Way Comes Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind The bottom two were my favourite. I loved how Rick chose to mess with the Devil, seemingly for the sake of it, but underpinned by a need for connection and to win back the affection of his granddaughter. The Pluto B-plot was inspired as well, with so many great jokes. Close Rick-Counters was just epic. Epic. Feature film material- and all within 30 minutes. While I loved the Lawnmower Dog episode, M. Night Shaym-Aliens! was where I felt Rick and Morty had become and was capable of being a really really special show, followed by a really strong Meeseek's episode (whom I hope have a return cameo, as much as Mr. Needful).

This was an episode where they just pulled out all the cliche's and went full breaking the fourth wall. Loved it. That one scene where they convinced Jerry he wasn't Beth's husband, and he had this secret love triangle with her "husband", just genius.

Where Futurama is wacky and is catered towards teenagers, this here is not the case. It's cutthroat humour that doesn't sugercoat anything. It's brural honesty is very refreshing a la South Park, but alot more subtle I feel. The only thing these two shows have in common is that they rely on "scientific" ideas to portray the theme of the show.

Between "Keep summer safe", Mister Poopypants, the cameo of Jemaine from flight of the concords, the dark twist in some episodes, Jerry's daycare... Top 5 rated episodes on IMDB, 4 are from season two (might be because of their freshness) Although two of my favorite episodes are in the lowest rating. The pilot and Anatomy Park. Raising gazorpazorp has also its moment when it goes very on the feminazism...

They completely went full self conscious on the sequal thing. And my god did they come up with some good shit in the transdimensional television. The whole Jerry arc was also great. imo ep 8 sucked, which is a shame. Usually shows have side stories, but this side story was just watching tv, i mean there were some funny moments, but overall it's just so lazy. Maybe it's just something i'm not getting, but i usually enjoy this show, so.. Also, Mortys character... at first he was so good, this anti-michael bay, insecure kid. But now he's just, idk, a twat?

Also seems pretty normal to me that he's a bit of a dick now. Teenage angst and shit. Constant masturbation. Bickering with his sister all the time. Sounds like a normal teenager to me at least.

They lay it out hard before the episode starts with the here's the sequal, line, and then go over the top with the twerking assflaps for 10 seconds or something. The entire show is based on pointing out double standards that are common practice and being self-conscious about certain stuff too. They know they had a huge success with the first interdimensional tv episode, so they "milk" it just because the bad reputation sequals have. Lo and behold: people bicker about the laziness of the episode and the unfunny jokes used. I'm sure you've noticed the plumbus creation with its close relation to porn/sexual references, or the parody on cliche over the top action movies with some intricate plot that doesn't make any sense that was posted here before. I don't really see a big problem with this episode. You guys give some fair critique, but I think that's just underestimating Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland (maybe I'm overestimating them). It may be a little less in line with the episodes of this season, but it certainly is on par with last season. Also, the big houseparty episode with Abradolf Linkler and the episode with all the imaginated familymembers/friends sees absolutely no critique due to an overlap in theme.

I rewatch some episodes last weekend and that Unity episode is my favourite. + Show Spoiler + It has nothing to do with Unity. Basically, his constant distractions serve to soothe the empty void within him. He feels so dead inside that even a fluid that LITERALLY brings inanimate objects to life, still can't make him feel alive himself. No more so than the constant drinking and inventions do. Unity was the closest he came to feeling happy, and now even that has been corrupted by his touch. In the end, he is alienated further by his refusal to accept that he can be loved for him, and not for how he makes people feel. When unity wrote him the breakup letter, it made him revisit that dark side of his soul that he runs from on a daily basis. He's further from happiness than he's ever felt. THIS - is why Rick is depressed, and he knows its nobody's fault but his own.

It was emotionally comforting because it felt like even after a long break the show is still there and still has big plans for the future. Like a reassuring, optimistic wink. Also, some of the best moments in the series are "fan service callbacks". That monologue/scene where Morty points out to Summer where the bodies of that universe's Rick and Morty was buried was so morbid, insightful, and heartfelt. Probably my favorite speech in the series. I didn't care for the former scene as much because I don't tend to root for Morty. When everyone was ganging up on him and calling him an idiot in the standoff I joined them and was thinking, "yeah, fuck you morty, messing things up!!!". But he's normal, sane, and showed his humanity when he's talking to Summer. Shouldn't I like him more and hate Rick for being arrogant, petty, vindictive, etc.?

I mean I get not wanting continuity, but its like two episodes of continuity in a row, a last episode and a first episode, and the creators have stated they intend to keep it mostly episodic in nature. :d I admit I'm not wrapping my head around why anyone would have much of a general problem with S3E01 (at least in the context of Rick and Morty as a series) EDIT: Also Im sad I never got to try szechuan McNugget sauce. What are the odds McDonalds does a promotion with Rick and Morty to bring it back? >_>

I do hope we get some more standalone episodes (with less divorce storyline) as the season goes on.

It was like a season of The Wire wrapped-up in 22 minutes of absurd sci-fi comedy.

It's clear there is some discrepancy. Either the theory is wrong or the writers fucked up the continuity. Since the latest is almost impossible, we have to assume the theory is wrong. That's a pity, I really liked it.

I think this season has a differenty overall feeling to it than 1 and 2, which is why some people may not like it How can you not like episode 3, one of the greatest episodes in the entire series! Can't wait for the The Rickchurian Mortydate EDIT: I have to say, the Ricks Must Be Crazy (season 2 episode where Rick tries to fix his car battery which is a miniverse), is one of the greatest episodes of any show ever made. In 22 minutes that episode perfectly explained everything that's wrong with our society and how it's set up. So deep, so brilliant, so brave.... just can't praise it enough. This show gets a lifetime of unbreakable devotion from me just because of that episode alone.

Phoenix Person or evil morty. At least this give them a lot of material for season 4 to work with

the last episode didn't feel like a season finale quite like season's 2 final episode. That episode really screwed with but this one was ok they kind of reset the show in a couple of ways even Beth breaking the fourth wall saying they are going back was interesting. I think it's hard to not want more Evil Morty/ Phoenix person Tammy stuff. Rick and morty isn't really a show like that. How do you guys rate the seasons I think 1 is probably still the strongest.

S3 > or = S1 > S2 is also acceptable because I kind of forget S1. I know S2 had some legit bad episodes though and I don't think S1/S3 really had any god awful ones. S2 had bad, unfunny, uninspired and terribly written episodes. Not all of it was bad, and not all of it was unfunny, but a large enough portion of it fell flat. Despite this, it still had its moments though.

I guess it depends how much weight you give to the more mediocre episodes vs the better ones.

+ Show Spoiler + Evil Morty episoooode! Big one too, like huuuuuuge one. I wonder what the implications are for Evil Morty having escaped the Central Finite Curve. Is he gone and done for good within the context of the show? I imagine so, unless if goes Rick-Genocide at some point, but I doubt we'll see or hear from Evil Morty for many years. Also the ending credits mentioning it all as a critique of late stage capitalism is sweet, its cool to hear shows talk more about what they're going for when it comes to themes and messages and stuff.
