Hi all, i searched and did not find a thread, and im not sure why. Just watched the 1st episode of this epic show, and have to say, I was very impressed. Lets take a look shall we?
A drifter named Lorne Malvo arrives in small-town Minnesota and influences the population with his malice and violence, including put-upon insurance salesman Lester Nygaard.
Notable actors:
Martin Freeman Bob Odenkirk Colin Hanks Billy Bob Thornton Keith Carradine (Agent Lundy from Dexter!)
Again, 1st episode just blew me away, fantastic cast, awesome writing. I cant wait for the next episode. For those who are fans on the Movie Fargo, like me, it has the same quirky and dark tone, some humor, and some serious violence. Please discuss!

Agreed! Honestly, the last 30 minutes, I was like, holy shit, this is insane. lol, really awesome stuff.
I absolutely loved the scene where Lester is pacing back and forth with Molly upstairs and he decides to just charge head first into the wall.
Martin Freeman is just so good! I think it's amazing how he can pull of that accent so so well, or maybe im just easily impressed lol, but hes a beast! Also, i hope we aren't the only ones on TL who saw this! Too good to be missed!
Just finish the pilot. HOLYSHIET mindblowing is all I could say!!! So happy to find this one now that many of my frequently watched shows are over or soon to end.
Amazzzzzzzzzzzzing show. God I love Martin Freeman. At first, his accent was a bit rough to my ears, but by the end of the show I thought he was pulling it off perfectly! I also gotta say, Billy Bob Thornton plays an amazing role as well, the ultimate shit disturber!
I loved the movie, love Coen Brothers and consider Fargo to be their second best (because you can't beat The Dude). And I have to say -- this pilot was fucking awesome and might not be "doing justice" to the movie but rather surpassing it in a variety of ways.
I haven't thought much of Billy Bob Thornton in a while, but holy shit, is he compelling in this show. Now I remember why he is an Academy Award winner. He makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. Delightfully fucking evil. Not at all a doofus like the villains in the movie, quite the opposite.
Martin Freeman is indeed a beast. The Minnesotan accents were integral to the movie, and I'm surprised that Martin is pulling it off. But I think he is. If anything, the movie accents were caricatures and overdone. Martin is just kind of spot-on. And besides the accent, his acting is great. You can see the insecurity of everything just eating away at him. And then...
Really well written episode, better than I was expecting. It seemed a weird idea to spin-off a Coen Brothers movie, but man, I'm glad they did. Psyched to see the next episode. So many quality actors. I know there's a lot of good TV lately, and every show gets so much praise. Do not pass this one over.
My favourite part of the entire episode was at the end when Billy Bob is talking to Colin Hanks. "I'm gonna roll up my window now." Also, is Lester going to get away scott free? I'm not so sure. His fingerprints are all over the gun and the hammer...
So as a Minnesotan I feel the need to inform people about a few things. Fargo itself isn't in minnesota its a River city in North Dakota. However the show isn't anything at all about fargo. The movie is based in Branierd minnesota but the coen brothers thought that fargo sounded better then some odd Minnesotan town.
the TV show is based in Bemiji (where the salesman is at) and Duluth. None of what happened is a true story and the accents (although very much appreciated and enjoyed around here) is very exaggerated.

Im sure most people would understand that the accents are exaggerated, as for it being a true story, the 1st episode starts out with saying its based on a true story from events that happend in 2006 I beleive? Now i don't know if this is true or not, i just assume they wouldn't be able to say its based on a true story, if it is indeed, all fiction, but i could be wrong, and this could all be made up.

Fargo -- the movie -- also opens with a sign that says 'true story' or something like that but actually isnt.

Hmm i see, are they allowed to do that? Seems like it should be illegal or something lol. Anything for some $$ i guess.

At the very end of the credits for Fargo it has an "All characters are fictitious" disclaimer. A quick google search leads me to believe that there is a bit of a grey area as to what you can claim when making a movie. Someone around here must know enough about the law to tell us!

wasnt there even a woman who died, searching for the money suitcase. because she thought the movie was a true story. i remember reading something like that.
anyway really enjoyed the first episode, hopefully they can keep up this high level.
