The guy is a maniac! I still haven't seen this but I might watch it now pretty much just for RZA and Yeerum, story looks weak. The first Ong Bak movie was awesome. The second and third are absolute shit, and I struggle to believe that you would consider them to be "some of the better modernish" martial arts movies.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2016940/ Man of Tai Chi (directed by Keanu Reeves) (yes, Keanu Reeves) Probably the best martial arts film I've seen since Ong Bak. Don't believe any negative reviews.

Don't believe any negative reviews. If you're looking for sick awesome fight scenes this movie delivers. The storyline though, not so much. I'd still recommend it just because the fights are really good and it's funny to watch Keanu Reeves act angry the entire time.

Honestly I was hammered when watching the other ones playing a related drinking game. I suppose those were more a description of my time watching, than the movies themselves . I don't watch a lot of martial arts movies either. So they were probably pretty bad, but if 'absolute shit' is as bad as it gets (0 on a 0-10 scale) they were probably a bit better than that? I guess I should say after watching a couple clips I don't really remember much of the movie itself, and was probably just combining how much I enjoyed the first one with the times I had and presumed the movies were good too.

Every single one on it is worth your time.

I think all of them have something good about them, but not all of them are good all-around. For example, the storyline in Flashpoint is stupid and boring. The fights in Blood and Bone are good but they have an oddly fun 'sense of humor'. Ong Bak 2 got ripped to shreds by critics, but again, the choreography is really good. Meanwhile, Kill Bill fight choreography has a weird and deliberate level of corniness, but the story was good. So if I advocate a 'bad' film, just ask me for the reason, and I'll tell you on a case-by-case basis why I like each one.

Look up any Donnie Yen films, the best I can remember are Ip man 1 and 2, Dragon, The Lost Bladesmen. There is also a 2009 version of fist of legends starring Donnie Yen instead of Jet li, Fearless with Jet li is arguably one of the best in terms of fighting and storyline imo (but little big soldier by Jackie Chan is also a contender) The Grandmaster directed Zhang YiMou is an artistic masterpiece, especially the meaning behind each of the fighting styles showcased, the fight scenes are definitely not too shabby. It carries a modern interpretation of the placing of chinese martial arts styles in contemporary age. Hero starring Jet Li is also the same, but more renown for Wire-Fu and political interpretations Also some movies starring Tiger Chen (was in Man of Tai Chi) is a choreographer for many famous action films, and has recently taken up acting. If your looking for MMA style then your best bets are Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins (but dont look for storyline in any of their films) In general, chinese-directed films may potentially have decent plots and artistic fightin. foreign-directed films recycle the same plots of some sort, and really just focus on action

Take Flashpoint, for example. One of the most bland, boring and ass shitting plots of all time. Just YouTube the fight scenes and fuck wasting your unlimited bandwidth on downloading the movie. Same goes for The One. God that was garbage.

Legendary Assassin -- same lead actor from the movie above. Kinda over the top action, confusing storytelling, but for the most part, it's a guilty pleasure with great martial arts scens Shaolin -- highly recommend this one. Great story, great action. True Legend -- a lot of special effects martial arts...not my cup of tea, but it's a decent watch.

I didn't like Hero. The only Wuxia film that really stood out to me as genuinely enjoyable was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, because while there was some silly wire-fu stuff, the choreography was good, story decent and scenes were gorgeous. Other popular films in the sub-genre like House of Flying Daggers and Curse of The Golden Flower looked pretty, but not much else. Same goes for The One. God that was garbage. I really don't see how me listing some movies warrants this level of aggression. I mean, I agree that Flashpoint is a terrible movie story-wise, and I would recommend just watching the fighting on Youtube. I didn't know what the OP was looking for specifically, so I just listed a bunch of titles, some of which I liked, and others which I didn't. For example, I don't like Romeo Must Die, but a lot of people like it for whatever reason, so I thought I'd shout it out. That being said, there are quite a few films I've seen that I did not shout out. Certain movies, such as The Matrix, The Bourne series, and Taken have martial arts in them, but are more of action movies. I also forgot to add War (2007) to the list. But you could perhaps classify that film as a crime thriller. I could have mentioned Transporter. I could've said "Hey, check out Never Back Down" but that would make me a horrible human being. In short, you need to calm down.

They have been practicing kungfu for their whole life and an actor pretending to do kungfu just doesn't have the same feeling. There hasn't been any in recent years that aren't blown up with special camera effects, very rarely do they really have raw actions.

I agree though, I find it very noticeable in the way they move and the speed of their movements.
