Its easy to see the similarities between Vegeta and Beerus, but I think Goku has a much more compatible world-...I mean universe-view. Goku and the angel hierarchy seem to be totally on the same page when it comes to just about everything when you think about it. Goku as a GoD would do a significantly better job at fostering talent.
For some reason, I expect Beerus to die during this arc. I think it is possible Beerus and Kaioshin are punished in place of universe 7 if universe 7 doesn't win. Although I do think universe 7 is just gonna straight up end up winning. Goku seems far less likely to me. He's not the top of guy who can go around destroying planets and blowing up civilizations even if it's for the greater good. Vegeta on the other hand has been known to wipe out planets before. His character has grown since then, but he is also intelligent and still cold enough to blow up a planet or outright kill for the better of the universe.
Plus the ego trip they could give him would be funny and fitting, from Prince of all Saiyans to a literal God, great way to end of series a character like his that was driven by pride.

Goku refused to take the guardian of Earth position because he was not really the guardian type. It would be severely out of character for him to change course on that.
|
Yeah no way in hell Goku takes that position. Just not in his character to do so and would be surprising if they did that. I am hoping they retcon the end of DBZ, but we'll see how far the show will go. Kind of hoping it goes past it tbh.

I hope they retcon all of super

I'm at the "I see a lot wrong with this show, but I do genuinely enjoy it" phase.

I'm enjoying it personally. Some bad parts and power scaling is retarded, not anywhere as consistent as DBZ, but otherwise very enjoyable to me.

Same, but it feels kinda like I am being extra forgiving because of just how badly I wanted DBZ to continue for so long. This arc is pretty crucial, IMO. I feel like quite a bit of the show has been leading up to this and I hope it ends up being like the Frieza saga in DBZ. The Frieza saga did a really good job at building on the saiyan saga and then launching the show into a whole different realm. I am really, really hoping this arc does the same.
|
Let's say I enjoy watching it but I hope it gets better.

Anyone else thinking to themselves "lol, and I thought the power inflation in DBGT was a bit much"?
At this point, I greatly prefer the idea of SSJ4 to blue. SSJ4 felt a lot more natural and DBGT perhaps did a better job at continuing DBZ than DBS. Both DBS and DBGT have their pros and cons, but I would say they end up being pretty even.
The idea of overuse of the dragon balls was really good and the relative power of SSJ4 Vegito vs the eternal dragon was about in line with what I would have wanted.
|
The power inflation in in Super is certainly stupid. Although I prefer the more simplistic designs of SSJ God and SSJ Blue over SSJ4. Just increasing the number and adding more hair as we go wasn't amazing.
Honestly the main reason I still reserve judgement for Super is because of GT. GT needed a pretty long time to really get going and get my interest. Granted, Super already passed the episode hallmark from which I started finding GT really interesting (some point relatively late into the Baby Saga), but they also had to dedicate 30-some episodes to retelling the movies and a bunch to filler episodes.
|
Yea before judging Super to harshly, remember we've only actually had 2 Super arcs. The universe 6 tournament and Goku Black. The rest has been movie retelling and filler. So far I'd say this arc has been pretty awesome, I enjoyed the universe 6 one and besides going full retard at the end the Goku Black arc was good imo.

My support for DBS despite its faults is more along the lines of that DBZ itself just wasn't that free of faults. I never watched the show out of any feeling of it being a deep and meaningful story. It sometimes had that, but sometimes not, and frankly DBZ the "brainless fighting show" is a more compelling, if lower rated, story than the deeper and more meaningful Dragonball. It was a great way to pass a week when I was feeling miserable or just plain excessively bored and uninterested in a more active distraction (e.g. playing Starcraft).
Also the DBS manga is pretty well-written. If DBS were rewritten to be fully manga-compliant then it would be pretty much everything all of us wanted it to be.

Care to elaborate? I haven't read any of the manga.

The manga is pretty good. I just wish its release schedule was faster. Considering all the fixing the manga does for the anime, getting 4 anime episodes for every 1 manga chapter is not a great deal.

I haven't read any of the manga. Same story, none of the stupid retcons, impressive internal continuity. It's not all that long, it's like 1000 pages of pictures in total. You could read the entire thing in an hour.

Although I must say the Magetta fight was better in the animé and Hit vs Goku could have used a bit more time in the manga.

Magetta fight was the one thing I could point to where the anime did it better. The entire lesser opponents matter seemed to be rushed but honestly that only slightly bothered me.
|
As I said, my only big gripe with the manga is the release schedule. The manga is at the Zamasu fusion, by the time they're done with that arc the animé is probably well into the tournament.
|
Have a lot of gripe with the DBS anime but can tolerate it, especially with Toei Animation's reputation with consistency issues. DBS manga on the other hand is much more polished in story and characterization (see Goku's enjoyment to fight but at the same time is weary of Trunk's well being when escaping through the time machine)
