Aka not doing his job and another reason why our universe has a shitty power level outside some orphaned Saiyans.

Buu targeted all above-average power levels he could find for destruction. By definition he pushed down the average.

I was just joking that if he did end up killing everyone, then the average is only his power lvl.

Because Beerus didnt exist at the time in the manga. They simply retconnected that he slept or didnt do shit like with freeza and co like a bad fan fiction. Just picture it as 2 different kind of manga/animes as it isnt really the same.
Less headaches that way about plotholes.

Great episode. Mystic fucking Gohan HYPE!

Goku didn't get knocked out of the ring this time. Seems suspicious.
I hope Gohan's time being a jobber comes to an end soon. He needs to not be bad sometime.

One more thing: Krillin vs 18 was acceptable. She beat his punk ass and he asked her to go easy. Great, that's how it should be.

Todays episode was better then I thought it would be. I loved how Piccollo called Gohan out on his arrogance, was about time it was done.

yeah that was great, nice to see gohan heading in the direction of being a z-fighter again. I also love that golden hair to black hair flashing when hes transforming, even tho the opposite way, it reminds me of when goku first goes super sayian epic!.
Also we saw female broly or cauliflower....werid ass names lol but i really wanna see how strong she is. (also can she go super sayian atm, or does cabba have to show him. (also rofl with the cabbage and cauliflower naming)

Not that weird since all saiyans are named after vegetables.
|
Well, broly is broccoli so cauliflower is a logical counterpart.

After some more thought, I am beginning to grow sympathetic to DBS. Piccolo's Gohan intervention got me thinking. Despite all our praise, there were actually some somewhat crucial issues with DBZ. Goku and Gohan's arrogance were big issues multiple times. How many problems could have been prevented by just stepping on someone's head and ending shit? The list goes on and on, but I really like the idea of DBS doing some spring cleaning of sorts. The first sign of this was when Goku refused to kill Frieza, forcing Whis to turn back time. I really liked that moment because it served as a "no fucking shit, finally someone is realizing how stupid Goku can be" moment. But then it just kind of went away. But over the course of Goku's journey to recruit talent, a big fuss has been made over the idea that he can be pretty negligent sometimes. Perhaps to the point of being childish. Whis touched on Vegeta's weakness, his anger, but nothing much ever really came of that. I am starting to view this process of modernizing old characters as also a way to modernize Goku and the other Saiyans. Goku needs to not be an idiot. Gohan needed to not get cocky against Buu. This recurring deep flaws are frustrating for obsessive viewers.
I think a few people here were telling me all this earlier, but I just wasn't willing to see it yet. It has never really felt like Goku walked away from these fights a smarter guy. "Huh, Buu is really stretchy" seemed to be all Goku got out of his ring-out with Buu. But maybe I am asking for too much drama.
I continue to be hopeful that this tournament serves as some kind of amazing springboard to take this show to the next level. Make Dragon Ball Great Again!

DBZ was never without flaw. It strikes me as a pretty rough composition that had the advantage of being full of cool shit. Whenever I rewatch it I can always find a fair share of plot points that I really do not care for. No need to put it on a pedestal; it was fun but it wasn't anywhere near perfect.

Ofc it wasn't perfect, nothing is. It wasn't even (objectively speaking) an extremely good shounen anime. But it worked very well, it did the fighting well, the different arcs had a dramatic structure which made people care. Super only works for nostalgia, on its own it's just bad.

One thing I would like to see: Piccolo using some of that Kami knowledge. In the Cell/Android saga, we are told Piccolo will absorb all knowledge from Kami. Kami is also shown to know about all sorts of weird shit that they have in the lookout tower. Stuff like the time chamber seem to just be one of many. It would be cool to see some of these ancient magic things used in some way.

Imo dbz is an extremely good shounen. Yes it has a lot of flaws but it did its job perfectly which is to entertain children. I don't remember any tv show of my youth coming close. You can say that the story telling is worse than some other shounen but at the end of thr day we're not the target audience anymore.

yu yu hakusho deserves honorable mention IMO. Only shounen I remember thinking "hey, this is almost kind of as good as DBZ"

I also think Yu-Gi-Oh! - at least the Japanese anime version (well, Duel Monsters and 5D's anyways) - is worth mentioning. The US release made them the butt of jokes more than an interesting watch but that's the dub's fault.
Anyways, regarding the point that "we're not the target audience anymore." Probably true, but that's a design fault. If it was originally designed for children it's important to remember that the fandom can potentially last for many years and throwing out those fans in favor of catering to the younglings is a mistake that should not be made. Two anime-style western cartoons I like - Samurai Jack and Avatar - understood this and when they made further seasons well after the initial show they upgraded it an age bracket. Yu-Gi-Oh did it on one out of four attempts (5D's but nowhere else). DBZ -> DBS didn't do it and that was probably a mistake if they were concerned with retaining us original fans. Saying "fuck the old fanbase, let's make it childish and idiotic" is unfortunate - don't know how good it is as a business decision though.
