To me it seems like they actually don't have enough material to fill 6 episodes in a meaningful way.

To me it seems like they actually don't have enough material to fill 6 episodes in a meaningful way. The term that has been around for a while is Monster of the Week or MOW episodes, but mainly yeah. You'd get a peppering of mythos from time to time at the very end of an episode. You can actually look up lists for runs with the best MOW episodes and all the Mythos episodes online to skip the fluff.A lot of people think that tos shouldn't have gone past S5, and that the actual conspiracy storyline faltered after Chris Carter took the money the keep the show on past what seemed like the conclusion to that core plot line. I think as far as this run goes, they may have been hesitating with plot and extending the mythos. Holding possible punches while hoping or negotiating for something beyond the six episodes. Beyond that, what is 6 episodes enough time to do in earnest?

Its been memorable and unique so far, but still not particularly good. In the end, isn't that what the X-Files always was?

I was joking with my dad that maybe they were going to do Space AIDS.... and then it ended up being Space AIDS. Was worried when they changed the text in the opening sequence that they were going to try and have a resolved ending but I'm happy they left it open ended still.

The monster of the week episodes were awesome, the arc episodes were a nicely conceived story that should have been stretched out to about 8 episodes. It just felt too rushed and every line of dialogue was plot exposition with no pacing or skill :/ And that O'Malley guy what a fucking horrible character.

I really think if they were going to do 6 episodes they should have just made it a 3 part miniseries rather than trying to do 2 story episodes and 4 fillers. It was kind of inevitable that we'd end up disappointed, but I will say it was less disappointing than I thought it would be. Yeah I agree they did the best they could, and the non arc episodes were all good

I really liked the Kryczeck episodes in the Russian Prison, and I think there was one scene at the Hong Kong Airport set as well. Erlenmeyer Flask is still my favorite episode thuogh.

The truth is finally out there, again. After a long delay, a deal is finally in place to produce a second edition of Fox’s “The X-Files” revival. The show’s three principals — stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and creator/executive producer Chris Carter — are back for the new installment. The event series is set to air during the 2017-2018 season, with production set to begin in summer 2017. “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why ‘The X-Files’ has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of ‘The X-Files.’” It was never in doubt that Fox and 20th Century Fox TV wanted another edition of “The X-Files,” it was only a question of when and how Duchovny, Anderson and Carter could fit it into their busy schedules. Just a few months ago, Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman said he didn’t expect to have ‘The X-Files’ ready by next season, noting that the clock was getting tight. Source

Also, barking up this tree, are there any other films (even TV series) you'd recommend if my favorite movies are Sci-Fi+Conspiracy (+preferably absurd) Favourite movies: Minority Report, anything by Terry Gilliam esp. 12 Monkeys and Brazil (1985), Equilibrium, Black Mirror (TV)

I don't know how feasable it is to skip though since IIRC many times there are a few seconds of plot at the end of a filler. For a recomendation matching your description I would say Utopia (TV-show, 2013). 2nd season wasn't so good anymore but good enough for me.
