La La Land matches record for most nominations with 14 (matching Titanic's record) and Meryl Streep is now the most nominated person of Oscars history.
Im hoping Kubo and the Two Strings does well :D i loved that movie and hope it does good in the Animated category. I lol'd when headline came up with "Suicide Squad receives Oscar nomination" for it to be for make up :D No Deadpool nominations which they thought might be. Oh Natalie Portman definitely deserves Oscar for her portrayal of the first lady Jackie Kennedy
|
Casey Affleck already deserved an Oscar for his supporting role in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, so it's been a long time coming. He's one of my favorite actors of his generation (with Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon, notably).

La La Land is a good movie, but not that good, well it has been a year with not many good productions, how many awards it will take home?

Then again, it was definitely a more enjoyable movie than Titanic.

A man called Ove was really good. Toni Erdmann not so much, so that's probably what wins the Oscar for foreign movie (haven't seen the others)

Laika deserve to get a Best Animated, and this will probably be their best chance (ignoring 2012 where it was just handed to Brave).

No Sing Street, that makes me sad.
That movie needed a nomination, that way more people watch it on Netflix.
|
Arrival was very good. Unfortunately I haven't really seen any of the other big name movies on the list
|
I have only seen La La Land but it was very, very good. Good music, good acting, technically sound, and most important, a real heart.
The problem with most romcoms is that they tend to cheat the viewer(and the film itself) in order to give it a end where everyone is perfectly happy. La La Land manages to avoid that pitfall without having to turn the genre on its on head, which, in my opinion, is a very valuable quality. It's the best movie about Hollywood I've seen since Mulholland Drive(and that, to me, is not only the definitive piece about the theme, but the best film of all time, so ranking below it is no shame).

La La Land takes home 6 awards whilst a huge gaff in which saw La La Land read out as the Best Picture winner only for it to be WRONG and Moonlight in fact was the best picture. They also decided to announce that midway through the speech from La La Lands director !
All winners added to OP so check it out, some surprises and some not as the most glamorous show in Hollywood finishes for another year. Be sure to check next year when no doubt Star Wars episode 8 is gonna be the one dominating the nominations.

Meh, huge gaff my ass. Shit like this is always deliberate in order to boost publicity (similar to Janet Jackson showing her tit at superbowl or Madonna kissing Britney Spears at the Grammies). Who really gives a shit about Oscars anyway, it's always populist Hollywood bullshit.

well, after this Oscar, I truly think that Oscar is done for. Lalaland? seriously? Emma stone, best actress?
No matter how much I like the movie (I don't even want to watch lalaland), or the actress (I do quite like Emma stone), I for sure know that there are better movies out there in 2016. Ffs, was 2016 truly that bad.
Cassey affleck deserves the best actor because we have seen the guy's performance throughout the decade.
