Seeing as the series has nearly ended I was surprised no one made a topic already so I thought I would make one for everyone to discuss the show. This is a dark and sometimes brutal drama co-created by and starring Tom Hardy set in 1814 London. It has 8 episodes in the first series aired on bbc in the UK and FX in the USA.
The basic plot is that James Delaney has returned back to London from Africa after disappearing for 10 years to attend his fathers funeral and claim his inheritance.
One part of this inheritance is a disputed piece of land in the new world which some great powers would kill to have, the show follows James Delaney as he tries to manipulate the people who seek this land from him and set up his quest to the new world.
The following scene from the first episode explains the lands significance pretty well.
I was also puzzled by the fact that this show wasn't talked about on TL forum. It has pretty big production value, good story, particularly good cast and acting. Really looking forward to see the last episode.
I am not sure how good it is since not many are interested to the point that Hardy lost millions on the show because he was unable to sell it to enough companies/countries.
The fact that it hasn't been picked up by bigger networks isn't a criteria on judging its value. Commercial success is also not something that I base my opinions on. There are many movies/shows that were actually great but didn't have a lot of popularity. I actually didn't know anything about the show prior to watching it. I saw the trailer and decided to give it a go. Was not disappointed.

It is really good I would highly recommend it, it has some class actors, the music is amazing as is the scenery. One of the best shows on TV recently IMO.

Is there anything known about a second season?
Yes, the protagonist is going to America.
You sir, are wrong. Please rewatch the last minute of the season finale.
I thought their current destination is more in the middle of the way from Europe to America. Apparently it's closer to Europe. I still think they are meant to eventually go to the USA, what do you think?
I just binge watched this after seeing this thread. First of all, thanks for making the thread. Would've completely missed this show!
I absolutely loved it. The story was great and interesting, the acting performances were stellar all around in my opinion. Tom Hardy was amazing, Jonathan Pryce was amazing.. Can't wait for the 2nd season.
Downloaded the first 4 episodes, seems really good and acting/scenery is really another level, very movie like. Unfortunately i only managed to find the first 4 eps. At least it will be aired on brazilian tv. 30/04 on fox it seems. Finally i can recommend it to my friends, looking forward to it!
I really enjoyed some aspects. Others not so much. I found that there was too much plot armor for Delaney: everything he did just happened to work and everything his opponents did just happened to fail. But the story is entertaining, the acting is magnificent, the music great and the scenery well done. Looking forward to what happens on the Azores. By the sound of things he plans on being a pirate? He just appropriated the gunpowder for own use ("I thought we were selling the gunpowder to the Americans?" "We are Americans"), so we'll see where that goes. I like Lorna Bowe/Delaney, so hope she doesn't get killed off. They didn't do enough with his sister. Other than fuel the "taboo" (or one of them), what was her role in the story?
