Damon Lindelof, fresh off critical favorite The Leftovers, is in talks to work on a potential Watchmen TV series. While the movie version had mixed reviews, the comic series was named as one of the 100 best novels by Time magazine.
A dark satirical and dystopian take on the superhero genre, the film is set in an alternate history in the year 1985 at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union. It revolves around a group of mostly retired American superheroes who investigate the murder of one of their own and in the process uncover a conspiracy that could change the course of history as we know it.
The show hasn't officially been signed yet, but the project is in early phases of development.

I really enjoyed the movie. I hope this happens and is just as good.

Well. At least the sex scenes can't manage to be any worse than Snyder's were.

The movie was great, although it has some differences to the comic. Unless they decide to adhere more strictly to the comic what is the point of this? More superheroes... yay

One of the best comics ever, so i am excited. I liked the movie, but if it is done well as a show then i am totally happy with it being adapted again. Lindelof though? Mixed feelings about that.

I am extra excited for Rorschach to be once again misinterpreted as a cool badass who has the correct plan. I've lived through it twice, why not a third time?

yes that's what we need from HBO... another pseudo intellectual series without a real foundation for a story. how did True Detective or GoT turn out?

Perhaps HBO's take on the superhero genre wont be as stale and formulaic like everything else that airs atm. Can't say Im too excited for it, but I'll give it a shot.

True detective season 1 was fantastic... So were seasons 1-3 of Game of Thrones. I've never read the comics, but without any prior knowledge I really enjoyed Watchmen (the movie). In fact for years it was one of my absolute favorites.
Also how could you say GoT doesn't have a real foundation? Maybe the writers elected to ignore it past season 3 on too many occasions but the foundation was clearly there...

The original comic was written to deconstruct and parody the superhero concept and I think that is something that can be explored much better in a TV series than the movie had time for, and modernized to parody the current super hero shows/movies. Most critics loved Lindelof's work on The Leftovers, some going as far as to call it one of the best TV series of all time despite a very mixed and overall mediocre initial reception for the first season. Assuming the Watchmen series actually gets produced, it will be interesting to see his take.

GoT is just straight up high fantasy with gratuitous sex and violence , not sure what's pseudo intellectual about it, and I'm not sure what your complaints with it are. (Disclaimer: I haven't read the books, so I feel it is a fairly good piece of television by itself). Perhaps your expectations are different based on your reading of the books?
Also re: watchmen, is it just in a rumor / conception stage, or has anything actually been announced?
