Will be the first time I will watch it in english from the get-go. I started GoT in german and I am that type of guy that cannot just switch over to the english version once I started with the synced one. BUT I have watched the whole six seasons in english and now I am ready for that juicy fresh new episode right after it aired.

Altough I have to say that the german synchronization is always pretty good, even though most other german tv show junkies ("Serienjunkies") complain about the quality of synchronization...

That said, most modern synchro aren't willing to experiment (or rather aren't allowed to experiment?) anymore, but try to stick to the original at all costs, even though you can't translate some stuff -- but you could do your best to transfer stuff like humor, accent, cultural memes or linguistic subtleties. Some 70-80ies synchro were really, really good in that regard, Life of Brian or most Spencer/Hill movies got cult status _due_ to the synchronization. Others like Magnum, P.I are just well-made. Admittedly there were alot of "miss" - synchronizations as well (Kung Fu masters in old Jackie Chan flicks talking with a bavarian accent ). I guess thats the downside with the well-polished modern synchronizations: you also polished/smoothened all the edges... ------------------- Back to topic though: Looking forward to the new season, especially as 5 and 6 were let-downs for me. Hopefully the series writers can finally wrap up all those storylines abit (and hopefully in a better way than e.g. the forced "oh, I just go back now"- Arya storyline). JRR does not seem to be able to close the stories in the books... so the trailer got me motivated to finally see the big picture going anywhere.

The pay TV network is determined to find a way to continue the most popular series in the company’s history and has taken the highly unusual step of developing four different ideas from different writers.

Before it was all like "in the books, it's like that", but now nobody knows. Moreover, learning about the book differences is no longer much of a spoiler, so one can read things pretty much freely. What a great time, I almost wish they dragged it out longer True, only it's too bad they didn't manage to make the series just a subset of the story in the books. I know you have to leave out some stuff, but I don't like it when they change the story completely. Already, there are big differences, which makes everything a mess, especially considering spinoffs that are coming out later. If you have to ask the question 'is this canon?' the writers/directors have failed, imo. But why does this happen across all of these kind of universes (xmen, lotr, warcraft, etc).
