I'm pretty sure its because he/she zombie thing is controlling hitsugaya and forcing him to fight/kill Mayuri. Its not that he CARES, its that he has no other choice (because he's under mind control) but to fight and kill Mayuri. And when that happens Mayuri loops him back to before he did it. I think it was more about Mayuri essentially incapacitating Hitsugaya moreso than Hitsugaya giving a fuck about his current situation. Mayuri can do whatever the fuck he wants now

And I loved that part about exactly when the drug was administered - "you'll find your answer, in the past", I wish Bleach had always been like that, shit. Then the Fullbring arc wouldn't have been a slow-moving train-wreck.

Also pretty much anything would have made the Fullbring arc better. That shit was filler tier

Even if Hitsugaya ends up trapped in 'the loop', that won't change the fact that Mayuri is dead, because he's not manipulating time but altering Hitsugaya's perception of it... I guess it was all a silly plot device to make us wow about Mayuri's drugs since "Lol I just injected you something <drop to the floor>" was not impressive enough, in a "Look at that, it's the opposite of the move he used against

He is the exception to the flashy fighting styles of his fellow captains. Like any good tactician, he elects to win fights through using cheap shit instead of merely reacting to his circumstances.

Latest chapters have been better than those of Naruto, I'll concede, but I still have no idea what's going on in Bleach, like why are there all these zombies to begin with, hell, why are there all these quincy to begin with, nothing has made any sense for a very long time, and even though Naruto's ending looks like it might be disappointing, at least I know what the hell's going on there lol. They each are having their problems right now.

I think the part you missed (or I misunderstood) is he can't kill Mayuri because just before he does he gets warped back to the point where he asks Hitsu to take the drugs. He's a mindless Zombie and his only objective is to kill Mayuri. He is incapable of performing his only objective. Think about it like the stereotypical "give a paradox to a robot" thing that happens in TV shows all the time. He's just trapped in a paradox. Now Hitsugaya is out of commission, and conveniently in a way that keeps him alive, while Mayuri is free to continue doing what he pleases. It just so happens that what he pleases is more fucking with Hitsugaya because he feels like the little prick has it coming. Or he's just insane. Or both. Eventually (hopefully) Mayuri will move on to zombie thing and will kill it so that hitsugaya comes back and no more, more dangerous Captains get turned

Mayuri is basically giving Hitsugayas brain time to kick back into gear and re-take control by slowly awakening his ability for reason and think critically. So basically Hitsugaya is a faulty electronic and Mayuri just held down the reset button.
