Is this just what is generally accepted instead of somebody outright stating it? Wouldn't it be possible for Oda to emphasize some aspects of the series later in the anime that were lost or cannot be illustrated properly (such as sounds) in the manga?
its conceivable but not applicable in this situation the smoker/vergo fight got enough pages in the manga
I'd agree with you on Akainu, except that he let Aokiji live. Akainu seems to be about absolute justice and he feels that anything the Marines do in pursuit of killing pirates is justified. He even killed fellow marines who ran from a fight with pirates. However, in the case of Aokiji, even though he left the marines, he's still going to fight pirates in his own way. So to Akainu, that seems to be acceptable. He has a lot more depth than a purely brutal character.
i think thats too deep for him id say theres a simpler explanation like couldnt kill Aokiji and maintain his reputation at the same time
remember Ohara? he killed civilians just because there might possibly be a chance that there could be someone who might be able to possibly read the ancient language even though they were told to evacuate the civilians
personally i think he just likes killing and would rather hunt people as a marine then be hunted as a pirate
stop it already. Smoker got beaten so hard by Vergo. I hope you realize it doesnt even matter if Smoker hits him since Vergo got superior haki.
Anime isn't canon. If you recall, Hody and Luffy were almost evenly matched in the anime. Same thing with Caesar and Luffy where it took him likr 5 minutes of struggling to blow him away. If you read the manga, which is btw 10 times better than the anime, then you see that they were trading blows evenly.
Just asking for you to get off your high horse here. Yes, the anime production quality is quite atrocious these days but used to be stellar. Since when did anybody of authority state that the anime is not canon, excluding movies and filler episodes?
Manga > Anime > movie > anime filler
the order of canon, if the Manga saids something thats what it is regardless of whatever the anime wants to spew out

Manga is straight from the Author and is thus the truest story. In an ongoing series like One Piece where there is close to a 1-1 conversion of manga to anime, the anime needs to add extra filler to make the episode longer. So the show producers need to come up with stuff and while they try not to directly contradict the manga, they do tend to drag out fight scenes that were never meant to be long. The author usually has some input into the anime, but is not usually in-charge and it's quite common for the anime to accidentally add plot holes.
Thus, anime extras are usually looked at as non-canon. However, they can sometimes be seen as an extension of what the author actually wanted to portray and can be useful in clarifying situations that aren't made clear in the manga. Still, I'd always trust the manga first and only trust the anime if the manga is inconclusive.
Am I the only one who enjoyed the emotional side of the chapter? Sometimes it feels like I am reading the "let's nitpick one piece to no end /troll bait thread"

Whatever...
i probably would have if all the tension hadnt been so dissapointing, if he had finished Dofla off with G4 the first time it would have been better but he needed 10 minutes of mooks watching his back while several ridiculously strong people capable of KOing Dofla all tried in vain to slow down the bird cage that aparently was capable of KOing an admiral and several extremely powerful people with no effort needed from Dofla, and then Luffy comes back to throw one punch then pass out again
G4 is going to have to be alot more impressive next time he uses it becuase it was so underwhelming this time, he CANT use it like he did there if he uses G4 he has to KO his opponent

That's why he is so impressive?
DD was Admiral level, we wasn't afraid of fighting against fujitora but still got beat by a 19 year old kid with much help of course!
Is Shanks, Kaidou, Big Mom, BB, the admirals in the 20 year old range? no.. they are 40/50 year all veterans with much experience

Good ending fight chapter, TIME TO SEE WHATS UP WITH SANJI NOW PLZ
That's be awesome if Sanji just goes AWOL and in the next arc he is already integrated in wano kuni society or something. Like he became a warlord or a commander or something.
Oda often has those chapters of nothing happening after a big fight is over, and I don't mind. As long as the anime doesn't legit spend 15 minutes on Gatz saying "Winner: Lucy" aswell.
The question now is if Doflamingo is going to bleed out internally from the Gamma Knife wounds.

I liked it too the chapter is fine not the greatest chapter ever but a necessary one for the story it's just some people that nitpick just for nitpicking.
And it's not like we never had a "party/celebration" chapter when defeating an enemy, so nothing new here just the same way to tell the story.

theres a big diference in having a chapter with a party than having a chapter with having one character struggling to say whos the winner during all of it
