i probably would have if all the tension hadnt been so dissapointing, if he had finished Dofla off with G4 the first time it would have been better but he needed 10 minutes of mooks watching his back while several ridiculously strong people capable of KOing Dofla all tried in vain to slow down the bird cage that aparently was capable of KOing an admiral and several extremely powerful people with no effort needed from Dofla, and then Luffy comes back to throw one punch then pass out again
G4 is going to have to be alot more impressive next time he uses it becuase it was so underwhelming this time, he CANT use it like he did there if he uses G4 he has to KO his opponent
Literally the exact same thing happened at Enies Lobby vs. Rob Lucci. Luffy used Gear 3 and then turns into Chibi Luffy and can't fight for X minutes until he recovers. I didn't hear all this bitching after he defeated Rob Lucci after having to run away and hide until he got big again. It's almost literally the exact same thing, except this time he hid by having some other people distract for him. This is the first time G4 has been used in combat, Luffy will clearly get better at it just as he has for Gear 3.
guys, there will be gear 5 in the future and the same thing happens again. gear 4 will be his "standard" that he can keep up forever at one point.
stop it already. Smoker got beaten so hard by Vergo. I hope you realize it doesnt even matter if Smoker hits him since Vergo got superior haki.
Anime isn't canon. If you recall, Hody and Luffy were almost evenly matched in the anime. Same thing with Caesar and Luffy where it took him likr 5 minutes of struggling to blow him away. If you read the manga, which is btw 10 times better than the anime, then you see that they were trading blows evenly.
Just asking for you to get off your high horse here. Yes, the anime production quality is quite atrocious these days but used to be stellar. Since when did anybody of authority state that the anime is not canon, excluding movies and filler episodes?
Manga > Anime > movie > anime filler
the order of canon, if the Manga saids something thats what it is regardless of whatever the anime wants to spew out
Is this just what is generally accepted instead of somebody outright stating it? Wouldn't it be possible for Oda to emphasize some aspects of the series later in the anime that were lost or cannot be illustrated properly (such as sounds) in the manga?
Oda writes and draws the manga, he doesn't produce the anime, although I imagine he does have a lot of weight to throw around in the adaption if he wanted to. But the anime is supplemental at best, in terms of canon, and will never retcon the actual manga.

We still don't know about the CP-0, how will fujitora respond to all of this, sanji is missing, big mum, etc..
Same, I've enjoyed this arc. Its had its ups and downs, but overall its been good. The Birdcage being a DBZ-esque plot device was kinda ehhh, but there have been so other many great parts. You guys remember all the God Usopp part, Usopp awakening his haki, Sabo's reveal, Sanji going off to fight Big Mom's crew, Zoro vs Pica,, anything involving Franky, just to name a few? I feel like people are getting so focus on the disappointing parts of the arc that they are forgetting the awesome parts.
Well said! I might take a break from OP, when you read it week by week it feels SOOOO slow, but when you get to just smash out a bunch of chapters at once, its still good old one piece! ^_^
I have enjoyed this arc and I am sure when I reread it it will be even more enjoyable. It does seem long and the pacing has been a little too slow at parts. When I read the latest chapter at first I was like "that is it??" "Nothing happened!" but I think when you put it in a greater context (not 1 chapter per week context) then you will see that the people of Dressrosa have been ruled by DF for 10 years. This is their moment of freedom after 10 hard years. The scene with Kyros crying is so powerful because he has been working this whole time to overthrow DF. All their dreams are true and even though the country is in ruins they are happy. Even more powerful is that Kyros could never cry before (toys couldn't physically cry) so after his wife died he couldn't properly mourn her death. Nor having to train his sweet, innocent daughter to be a fighter (even though she doesn't want to injure anyone). All this pent up emotion could finally be realized when Luffy beat Doffy. What a moment, this was epic. (Now back to the guy who cooks??)
Shell: What makes you think CP-0 is still on the island? My understanding is they left the Dressrosa after they made their announcement (no source).
They definitely didn't leave right after the announcement. When Robin and Law saw them near Green Bit, that was after the announcement. Of course they could have left since.

At the pace Oda introduces gears, that's 600 chapters away, so I wouldn't worry about that overmuch for now.

becuase he did that himself, he managed to survive on his own power in dressrossa he had people literally carry him to safety while other people stalled for time

i wouldnt be too sure, G4 was introduced immediately after the timeskip (basically), he invented G4 pretty early on (since Rayleigh was still there) and immediately worked on upgrading it (king kong gun) i wouldnt be surprised if he already had a G5 just decided G4 would have been more effective (or maybe G5 isnt quite ready or has some conditions he couldnt meet)

G4 was not introduced immediately after the time skip. We are 3 arcs in, and how many years? Its like saying Alabasta was immediately at the start of the early Grand Line

I saw smoker as like a placeholder Garp until Coby got strong enough at first but yeah I think Coby will ultimately be that guy for Luffy
I think smoker is luffy's Garp. I see coby more as being the one to pick up all the pieces when the WG if eventually defeated probably when Luffy defeats Akainu.

i dont think smoker is strong enough doesnt seem like he power upped enough in the timeskip
Maybe this story is better written than naruto and Luffy doesnt have a "Garp" ? Perhaps he will forge relationships with lots of marines each one distinct from that of Roger and Garp?
We've seen all the yonku make some sort of appearence or impact on the story since the two year break... except shanks. He hasn't even been mentioned once. Wtf is he doing? Laying about? Come on shanks, get it together.
I think Shanks was mentioned having a clash against BB.
Well it's true Luffy is a "rising" star but with 3 years of pirating to be able to take out the people he allready did and acomplish what he did is allready a big feat! Luffy has the respect of his enemies because they fear is will and power to make allies.. It's not that they fear his power. Akainu wanted to kill him bad because of what he fears Luffy will be able to do in the future, not because Luffy would beat him.
He took out the king of the underworld, king and a shichibukai also in possession of king's haki, with major help true, but DD wasn't alone. If DD was alone Law + SH crew could probably take him(whatever that means),
Also the power of the Yonko is not just their own power, it's also their crew.
I am just disappointed on how Doflamingo lost to Luffy. My expectations for this showdown was huge since Doflamingo is cunning, ruthless and has one of the sickest fruits the universe had to offer. There was some good trading of blows but I just didn't like the fight devolving to one big decisive attack from both sides. I think there just was some crazy potential that had been set up since Mock Town but it didn't materialize.
I mean really, the guy had a scary aura that made the reader (or at least me) feel he's untouchable and it pains me to see that he lost it all by underestimating his foe. Now normally I would not have any qualms about this since this is nothing new with Luffy's foes but he stated it himself that he would not be making the same mistake. I guess one explanation would be that he like the rest of his Family just let go and got complacent on what they had instead of staying hungry.

I think this is the big take away from this arc. I mean it was part of law's speech to him as well. "All you did was stay calm" referring to the end of the era. To me, in hindsight, hinting that he indeed did get complacent as a ruler. Very similar to Crocodile, Dofla took over a country, him and his crew seemed to get lazy and let themselves go.
Dofla didn't underestimate Luffy, he over estimated himself. Doing nothing but sitting on a throne and barking orders to rule the underground markets does little to keep you in fighting shape. He relied to much on his positional power, as a shichibukai, former celestial dragon and ruler of a country thinking he was basically untouchable. And neglected his physical power. Anyone after 10+ years of not really fighting would lose their edge in battle.

THe only one I can think of happened before marineford was there another 1?
As great the emotional payoff is after such a lenghty arc, the fight in this past two chatpers were dissatisfying. I get it that it's been building up to a one hit KO but I am more of a fan of actual fights like the one v. Rob Lucci. There has been a tremendous progress in the story the past year but I wish the finale would have been a bit more action heavy.

What do you mean by "actual fight"? Do you dislike the downtime between clashes? Gear 4? The tag-team with Law? Personally, I was not a fan of G4 because I though it was cheating to pull a power-up straight out of your ass with no foreshadowing whatsoever. I would have preferred it if Luffy won by exploiting some weakness or just had a straight up brawl like with Lucci where they smashed eachother's faces in until one of them gave out. But that's just my opinion.
What foreshadowing was there for G2 and G3? Not counting the non canon movie the manga never hinted at Luffy developing G2-3 they just came up and he mentioned his fight with Akoji as his motivation for developing the moves. If anything the time skip is more foreshadowing as this was his first truly tough opponent so he used a move he hadn't used before as he didn't need to.
