The settings/story can be very light-hearted, but truth is that their reality or their goal are pretty serious. Enjoyed alot!
It was a pretty fun anime, I'll admit, though the drama at the end felt really awkward for some reason.
It might be that just like Echo and Nagi it's simply too short to reach its maximum potential.
After the first presentations of how different characters died, I think I suspected what the serie would be about. That said, not sure if it was that awkward. From my point of view, it wall easy going, funny, at the beginning. And suddenly, everything went downward as they finally realize their true purpose. That kind of shift is what I actually found the most interesting. At first, we all thought it was about the fight between the Angel (and let me say this : I think the serie would have been boring if it stayed that was ; since nobody can get killed, its kind of pointless to keep repeating over and over again the same fights, knowing that all the sacrifices are not "sad"/real or whatever.)
Read about some possible story loophole : Otonashi being dead, but Kanade was already dead for a long time. Well, assuming its not a mistake from the producer, or just an easy conclusion they made up, it's possible that death in real world doesn't translate automatically into appearing in the dead world of Angel Beats. But yea, not too sure about that myself, but that seems like the only logical conclusion

I thought a lot of aspects of the anime were great, but it was an anime with a bit of a weird plot I suppose. Although I don't think in my personal opinion that it was meant to have a serious storyline anyways. The ending was a bit iffy but okay.
I don't know about this whole arc, but I had to giggle when he gave Ashin'in another page of WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS. Also, Kumagawa is still about the best character, even when he's not.

the rocket chair was really fucking good, left me breathless from laughing so much, strange to have something like that in there considering the overall tone of it all

Lol agreed, the rocket part was hilarious. Imo angel beats was just in disagreement of what it wanted to be, on the one hand really serious drama anime but on the other a light hearted action comedy anime. Imo it kinda failed to be one of either or a good combination.

The arc didnt have enough of Kumagawa or Anshin'in really. I get what he's trying to do but meh.
Angel Beats! Was good imo but I really wish it had gotten its 24 episodes. I want to know a bit more about the characters and their past, and also the pacing was a bit weird. Still, considering it was supposed to be 24 and ended up as 13 (14?) the result is still pretty good.

I think most people here go through new anime every season when they come out, so rarely need to find a series to watch.
Although I am not unfamiliar with anime/manga, I was never "seriously" into it. Like 1 year ago, the only anime I would watch were the gundams
And at some point, I ventured outside of the Gundam universe, and found Death note, followed by Full metal alchemist. That's probably when I realized there were good animes outside of Gundam Recently watched Fate + Angels Beats, and really enjoyed them. I'm probably looking for something similar
Useful to keep track of your anime and to read up on shows you might like. Theres also a top anime list which can be pretty useful to look for new anime. I dont know what ANN is.
If you liked angel beats you might like other key anime like air, canon or clannad. Theyre more focused on drama than angel beats and not really on action though. Kinda hard to say what else you might like, youve only seen a few anime and bases on those theres hundreds of different anime to watch. If you like mecha anime then you can give code geass a shot, if you dont mind fanservice. You could check out steins gate too, very good anime imo.

Its a pretty good resource. Mal and ANN will give you more headaches if you dont watch to much.
