Like, it's there just to accentuate the kind of world they live in
I felt it was + to the series.

There's also a bit of gender identity in there. While not mentioned in the show i think in the novels Saki at one point wishes she wasn't a girl and has a bit of an identity crisis. It's an interesting topic to think about if such a society were to exist, a bit of a pity it's not expanded upon. I think people's homophobia may have caused them not to really dwell on the implications. I guess not wanting to be your gender isn't really new but the implications of a hypersexual society is an interesting topic to look at.

It also shows that the village is extremely mature about sexuality and progressive/accepting Spoiler + Show Spoiler + At least of people that they don't think have the potential to become fiends or karma demons. Though in their defense you can understand their predicament Shinsekai Yori really was a solid show that had me hooked while watching which gives an extra +1 too, because I mildly disliked the three main guys at some point or other during the story but it still didn't detract from my interest in the show. It kept me skeptical of whether I would like the show but handled pretty much everything beyond my expectations so I enjoyed the ever living shit out of it.

It's just that the story is just interesting enough to prevent me from dropping it even more than that, it's easy for me to find some redeemable quality, even if it's mostly shit. For example: Momo Kyun Sword I really hated the transformation scenes and overall character drawing (like momo too much oppai) and basically the whole story but found that the actual fights with her transformed weren't half bad and my brother and I got a kick and an inside joke out of the one demon captain (the fat one) b/c he always started laughing like Tee-yah-hahahaha. Every time. I use that b/c momo was one i was gonna drop after like 2-3 eps. last season but ended up hanging on...and it ended up being an overall enjoyable experience for me even though it was a pretty bad anime. idk, every time i watch a show, it's always a YMMV thing for me. I don't have the same negative stereotypes of certain literary devices as a lot of other people do and i often find those same devices intriguing. It's more like if i can't find something overtly bad with the show, it's probably a decent watch. and, i also tend to focus more on the positives rather than the negatives.

Ah you guys are talking about Shinekai Yori, I love that show. I was reading some the posts and wondering what was being talked about, and then I thought about suggesting Shensekai Yori to goody, to see if he could handle that one episode lol.

TV series might be tricky though as there is no break point in the novel

To love Ru has the downside of first season being worst so he might get dissapointed but yes, it's certainly polygamy.

Season 1 is mostly your standard guy likes 2 girls and they both like him (standard in manga I guess ) with it being heavily focused on those 2 girls and the guy. Starting from season 2 it's a lot more... liberal, basicly ever since Momo appears lol

EDIT: In this case i wouldn't mind ecchi since it's polygamy like i have a choice. However i hope it's not emphasized on the ecchi parts only. I can only enjoy small doses of it.
