+ Show Spoiler + They pitched The Matrix to producer Joel Silver by showing him 1995's cyberpunk actioner Ghost in the Shell, saying "We want to do that in live-action." http://www.warnervideo.com/matrixevents/wachowski.html

A lot of the visuals were borrowed from GitS and changed slightly to fit the movie. The core idea of a having identity outside your physical form(virtual reality in this case) was taken from GitS. So while the themes are slightly different(Matrix being more akin to the bible) it still borrowed a lot of things around it from GitS. + Show Spoiler + They pitched The Matrix to producer Joel Silver by showing him 1995's cyberpunk actioner Ghost in the Shell, saying "We want to do that in live-action." http://www.warnervideo.com/matrixevents/wachowski.html See that's the thing. You shouldn't base whether a film is influenced by something on what a director said. Christopher Nolan said he was inspired a lot by films like Blade Runner when he filmed Interstellar, but that doesn't mean that you see the inspiration there. Also the idea of a virtual reality already appeared before GitS. Take William Gibson's Neuromancer and its sequel novels like Mona Lisa Overdrive, as an example. In fact, reading Neuromancer makes it apparent that the Wachowskis were probably way more inspired by Neuromancer than they were of GitS. Mona Lisa Overdrive I think is an actual track in the second movie, which I think speaks way more to the influence of Gibson's novels @_@ What visuals are you talking about, by the way?

Anyway the whole opening of the first Matrix is a redoing of the opening to the GitS movie. All that green text scrolling is due to GitS doing it. The neck jacks are because GitS did it that way. The fight scene in the lobby is a homage the major's final fight. Some scenes are homages to Ghost in the shell although a lot of the scenes are homages to different Asian martial arts movies as well. Just because an idea has been around before doesn't mean that person used the original idea as inspiration. They saw Ghost in the shell and wanted to take that concept to live action. I'm not sure if you are misunderstanding my opinion or not. I like The Matrix, I think it's really well done and good cyperpunk. That doesn't mean they didn't take inspiration and things from Ghost in the Shell. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I mean when the people that made it, people in the industry, movie critics are all saying one thing and you can watch the two side by side to see comparisons between the two I really don't get your reasoning.

GitS:AAA: I guess I'll watch the new eps and ignore the rest. Gunslinger Stratos: Infinite Gunslinger Stratos Girls? Also this description tells me nothing. Arslan: Heard good things. I feel like I should read the manga though. Houkago no Pleiades: The OVA sucked. How did this get a sequel? Is Subaru funding this again or something? Kekkai Sensen: Maybe it won't be complete fujobait. I'm not terribly optimistic though. Sidonia s2: I wonder if the Blame adaptation will be decent. Lupin III: Hard to resist. Grisaia s2: I'll let eca be the guinea pig. Nanoha Vivid: Might as well. Sure hope they learned from Strikers. Not-Haruhi: It's shit. Shit, right? Re-Kan: ...Maybe it'll be like Natsume, right? Shokugeki: I'm pretty confident that they won't be able to match the art, so I'm kinda interested to see how much they fuck it up. Teekyuu s4: Wow, they actually lasted 4 seasons. Yamada-kun: Doubt I'll watch it. Thinking about how they've dragged out the story gives me ulcers. Gundam: The Origin 1: Hell yeah. Mostly the comedy and the cockblocking is what makes it different from the others. And the inevitable drama that happens isn't too annoying. Idk i can't tell but the show is really enjoyable. Other harems usually don't keep my interest long enough like i get unsatisfied cause nothing happens or i get bored eventually. Slaughter comment kinda nailed it. idk man... I like trashy harem roms but it almost feels like the girls go out of their way to self-sabotage in order to avoid development. Kosaki is the queen of this but pretty much every girl does it. I mean, when it started to seem like To Love Ru, of all series, has more plot sensibility, it really makes me go "???". That being said, I don't qq about Nisekoi cause there's obvious no point. I cheer for Kosaki, Yui is prob my favorite, I expect SS Chitoge to cross the finish line.

Production quality is great, ClariS theme songs, characters are generally more interesting than the norm even though they fall under the same tropes (which is honestly boosted by the fact that the voice cast is stellar), it's not nearly as formulaic as others, and the MC is tolerable. Pretty good points. I can't say I'm partial but most people don't even bring up art/music when it comes to series. ;;

Not a huge fan of Chitoge. this though honestly Tachibana is amazing because of her VA, Onodera is amazing despite her VA. I usually like Hanakana (not fanboying her but I can enjoy her moeblob voice) but I really didn't like her the first 3 to 4 episodes in that role. Later on I liked it but that's probably just because Onodera best and thus Hanakana has to be fine
