I'd have to watch it myself to form an actual opinion but that means I'd have to watch anime again, ewww... It's a poorly done edgy grimdark fantasy that on occasion randomly goes full shoenen with cutsey companions, dense MC etc.

+ Show Spoiler + Most of the discussion seems to be centered around rape and sexual violence. The interesting part to me is that historically female characters in media and especially fantasy writing haven't been anything more than plot devices to propel the male protagonist or story forward. So when sexual violence occurs it's almost solely against women and is at the benefit of the audience of protagonist. It's all about making the audience and protagonist feel emotions. The actual victim of the violence barely matters in this situation. In reality rape and sexual violence isn't only women but men and children too. The victims of the violence are the ones that are important. The aftermath of rape is important not just the act itself. That's partially why there is so much criticism of rape in media. It often only focuses on the act and discards the aftermath of the victim. It's why Martin gets criticized so much for rape in his books. Sure rape was a part of warfare and the times but he barely ever deals with the lifelong issues the victims face after the act. Instead focuses on the emotional element during the act that audience experiences. To bring it all back to Goblin Slayer. What I've read is that people are upset that there is explicit rape in the story. The other side says the rape has an in world explanation and it's all about making the audience feel emotion, namely hatred for the goblins. This is the textbook example of poor use of sexual violence in a story. The victims do not matter. There's some lame justification for the rape itself (Goblins need to do that to procreate???). It's only against women, especially teenage girls. It's purely a tool used to set up the story instead of being important parts of characterization. If we compare this to Berserk's take on it. We have both male, female and children being impacted. We have see how these events shape the characters. We witness the events in their full brutality and the aftermath that these characters that survive have to deal with. It's messy and disgusting. It evokes emotions but it also respects the story and characters enough to not use it as a plot device (Mostly). 3-Gatsu also deals with sexual violence or at least harassment/assault but it focuses mostly on how that trauma shapes our protagonist and not just the act itself. I mean this show is just amazing and I needed another chance to gush about it. Anyway I just find the whole drama pretty interesting. It's a look into the anime community or at least the vocal one. It being so controversial definitely makes me think it's pretty stereo-typically anime with some grimdark edgy thrown in. Well written dark fantasy doesn't get that kind of popularity typically.

it becomes a mix of konosuba and danmachi if the manga is any indication occasionally you get some grimdark shit but from what i gathered from the manga after the first two chapters is that it's extremely low stakes maybe that changes another dozen chapters in

The author is great at drawing both the brutal action and standard style, but he's a horrible story writer. :-/

Don't worry about Index S3, even CR didn't think it was worth getting the rights for NA. Bunnygirl Senpai depends on how it develops. Zombie Land Saga sounds like School Live from the description but I haven't watched it yet so maybe not. (See above, Taiga has been beating me up.) Also, someone said Monogatari. So I should probably rewatch all of that.

I actually wonder what the VAs working on this show think of it, considering the main metaphor...

Bunny girl - 24 minutes of nothing happening except dialogue is my jam. Don't care if it's smart or not since there's always someone out there who says "muh intro to philosophy 101" on any anime show. Irozuku sekai - I hope this doesn't end up as terrible as glasslip and this is PA works so the quality of their SOL are across the board pretty much. So far, it's ok and hard to judge because all they did so far was do what's in the synopsis. Zombieland - uh 👌 Slime - just narou things, I like the tsundere dragon. Dislike how they changed the voice of the MC to a girl's Yagate Kimi ni naru - my fav Yuri right now but uta just rec'ed me another one so maybe that'll change. It's odd how sometimes the characters are too detailed for the background or vice-versa Just have to go watch Index S3 and I'll have seen ep1 of all the shows I might watch except for the eromanga-but-worse show with incest. Where are the subs for that zzz
