this doesn't have anything to do with mahouka or ngnl. This is about mushishi and ping pong. Sure, they are good series but i'm not finding myself gushing at how beautiful they are.

I'm finding them to be quite lackluster in every other category possible.
I haven't watched more of Ping Pong than 2 episodes, the art style really was not for me, but Mushishi is by far the best thing airing this season. While the quality of episodes differ, some are better than others, it manages to do in twenty minutes what most anime can't even do in 24 episodes. In those twenty minutes it manages to create better characters and tell some great stories around them. Meanwhile, these stories are portrayed with great art and one of the better soundtracks. Really, what more do you want in an anime?

Mushishi is very good at setting moods. Its horror episodes, for instance, are far more foreboding than anything Another managed to conjure up. The stories are also better than the vast majority of anime. The pacing is very slow and deliberate, sometimes overly so, but it's usually beneficial to the atmosphere.
Really though, what it boils down to is this: how many other shows can you name that are similar to Mushishi?
Edit: I suppose it's worth noting that Ping Pong doesn't have anywhere near the level of acclaim that Mushishi does, so it's kinda odd that you lumped them together like that.

Actually. This is a good point. Robots make everything better.

The background art is very nice but i hate the character design of mushshi tbh. There is something to their fat proportions and miyazaki-esque style that i really hate. Great Soundtrack and animation, i agree. The music is a good mood setter.
I found the characters(excluding Ginko) terribly boring. Their most stand out quality for most of them(or more like only) is that they are pretty damn stupid. But if your only criteria for better character is that they are realistic then i can understand your perspective but i don't agree with that so i don't understand how 20 minute characters can even compare to one in 24 episodes unless you are literally comparing mushishi to the most terrible animes that ever exist.
Some stories are good. I liked the turtle, sakura tree, rain one, and maybe 1 more i'm forgetting here(perhaps the snowflake one?). But some are outright terrible like the water shadow one. Either way, i found most of them too simple and thus boring. But if the purpose of this anime is to be simple, then i suppose that it achieved just that and i'm a mismatch for these types of series from the beginning.. I'd rate it a 9 or a 10 if i was judging solely by author's intent but our enjoyment is still some part of a rating.
What i want in a great / beautiful anime? Bring me your Shin Sekai Yoris, Evangelions, Madoka Magicas, or even The Tatami Galaxy. (Heck i bet SSY and Youjohan Shinwa Taikei are even better in novel form)

I lumped them(ping pong + mushshi) based on reactions i got from other anime sites. For me, simple stories aren't better. Though i didn't really get a sense of foreboding, i only got a relaxed mood from the show. There's very little to begin with that gives me a sense of horror after watching / reading so much horror anyways.. I can definitely give a unique award to Mushishi. Though i can't really give it too much credit if the stories bore me.

I can't take free shots at any of those if you list it alongside tatami galaxy, awkward.
Really should work up some motivation to read ssy source just to trash it and yell at cheep.

So until then I'll just keep citing ssy derisively as the novel that won the same sf award that Eva did.

Hunter x Hunter's latest arc just ended and I can safely say that I've never cried nearly as much in a 20 minute period in my life

Yeah, the anime. Last episode of the Chimera Ant arc was today. Beautiful stuff.

Beautiful stuff. Ah ok, I recall Gon-san being a thing somewhat recently because that stuck around in nico rankings for weeks, but I wasn't sure if they actually got past Chimera Ants already because raws had the Alluka designs on ads. Kind of figured they already finished that up and moved onto the next arc.

Too bad though, it could've went down as a strong ending if Haru died and the other ones that have 'died' in previous episodes actually died lol. Bokura: good ending. Sets it up for a season 2 since they only got so far.
Just finished Akuma. I liked it, even with that ending, i found it enjoyable.
One thing that really looooved about it was the different endings. And the songs for each ending lyrically and musically fit the personality of each assassin that was featured. That right there makes me raise my rating at least a point and a half. All in all i gave it 8-9 out of 10 (i'd like to reiterate that i'm extremely lenient with my ratings..and once y'all know me i'll stop harping on this )
+ Show Spoiler +I completely agree that the ones who had died should have remained dead but w/e. I hear that's the cool new thing for anime's, bring back everybody that died b/c hey wtf why not. lol I hate saying it, i feel it's a little bit trite but my favorite assassin has to be Tokaku. Only b/c she's the most proficient in every method. I thought Haruki's reasons behind everything were the best/most seemingly life like but her method was pretty dumb. I think the best method was Shino's with the bomb around the neck, but she went and fucked it all up by being stupid and talking about her ex boyfriend...had she not mentioned that she would have won for sure. And it was a little hard for me to believe that the 2 most unsocial of the group Banba and Isuke were the only ones to actually (in some small way) work together, even if Isuke was really just using Banba.
It would be better had the one's that died remained dead, but i guess it can be construed as believable that they didn't die (only b/c they're assassins and after all that training and all the shit they've been through their whole lives it would take a whole hell of a lot to kill any of them). It's just, if they really want to story to have stronger meaning behind it, they wouldn't have done that IMO.

The Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun manga seems so.... Incomplete? So far it always seems like scenes are jumping around like the author left out a panel here and a panel there. The translation I am reading from mangahere also seems quite rough at times. Other then that it certainly is different then the typical. The story also seems insubstantial so far, like a small snack that isn't enough when you need a full meal. Still only up to chapter 10 tho and right now the two leads just seem very very very dumb. Like I don't understand what the fuck is happening. They just say shit who knows what they are doing.

You should probably ask BurningSera (I think?). Whenever he pops in it's always to gush about those series, haha.
+ Show Spoiler [Black Bullet 12] +I think the director or whoever needs to get a hint that just killing people off just because you can doesn't make your show cool and edgy. I mean maybe it was done better in the LN since I didn't read it but it seems like he kills off cat ears loli just so samurai loli can fit into the team? And the bodyguard has to be the most comically stupid antagonist.. Gastrea going to kill everybody but nope, gotta fuck up all humanity over your idiotic grudge against Rentaro.

Rewatching Kono naka Hitori Imouto...
Omg, I forgot how awesome this anime was. We need a S2 right now.
