+ Show Spoiler + What impressed me most about Sumika was the sheer magnitude of her love. Her love survives rape, bodily annihilation, and becoming a vegetative, post-death floating brain. It is enduring. Her love also precipitates the entire time-space looping course of events that MLA is built on. It's what keeps Takeru coming back to the beginning whenever he fucks up and gets himself killed, because Sumika's love is so strong that it reaches across dimensions and pulls all those other Takerus across dimensional boundaries. In a setting where humanity has no hope, people get routinely slaughtered, and friendship and love are just there to engender suffering after people die... Sumika's love is a stunning exception, inserting itself as the tropic Power of Love to the nth power, and twisting the rest of the narrative around itself. Of course you don't get any of that until well into MLA, so let's just say judgments about Sumika pre-MLA are somewhat uninformed.

For me, the scene that rocketed Sumika from "barely above Chizuru" to "slightly behind Meiya" is the diary scene. The final reveal only serves to confirm that.

Meh when it comes to these sorts of series its basically down to how much you like the girls and their character designs. In that way I like the art in Sankarea better. Both of their overall quality seems on the same level from my initial impressions of both series.
