As far as I know most anime studios are just paid to animate without actually having a say in anything for the most part. There are exceptions (like Highschool DxD being the only thing to ever sell for TNK) but they're usually not the ones to make that decision. You have lots of money pooled together from different interest groups who want to sell different things related to the anime to get the money back including toys, BD/DVDs, music CDs, manga/LNs for the original source and I'd just assume that it's hard to get particularly the publisher of the source material back on board quickly. Most of the popular stuff is still selling decently after getting big in the first place so putting more money into an anime probably just doesn't make a lot of sense for them? Or if it failed horribly in one of those aspects. Good luck having to try and convince that certain group responsible for that area to go for another season. Or anyone else who wants to take over their part of the share for that matter. The guys distributing the music CDs, or the DVDs/BDs of the anime, or the company making toys don't get anything out the increase in source material sales etc. Totally guesswork on my side though.

some characters are very easy to connect to, and some of the things factoring into that are the role they play, how they reappear throughout the show, symbolism, and last but not least a simple and limited wardrobe. it is all really just lacking realism that we can establish tiny little differences in an otherwise stagnating character. oh, they participated in a ninja war and got a scar over their beautiful face, and now that's what the character is about. one meaningful scene is all it takes to paint a character as faultless which can then set us up for twists later on which will better define or mark the character in the history of the show. then bam. fanfics, cosplay, merch, etc. any tiny little motive or inkling/nod of desire is mirrored or scaled larger by those fans in question. lol. i just think characters with clear roles are much easier to feel one way or another about. and because of one's love/fandom for the show, the way they felt about that first character is propellant to feel more strongly about some of the leads. it's hard to be entirely artistic without giving into those tropes. akb48 sells more than any other musical artist out there in japan. my question is when are they going to create an anime about gaming or about one large game with tons of action and all that beautiful shounen stuff.

Ao no Kanata for example was listed as romance forever while had zero romance. Though in that case it was just an awful adaption apparently. Tags, especially on MAL, suck. Period.

That takes quite some doing...

Genre tags are merely meant to catch the guy to a person looking around, they aren't meant to dive into details about the story as most stories have too many elements to really capture in one word. Take the tag "Drama" for example. Almost every story has some form of drama yet the form of drama can be radically different. Think of them more as adverts you see on lamp posts on the street.

Shoutout to the guy who inserts random english words into his fluent japanese sentences for no apparent reason. + Show Spoiler [Kabaneri] + Probably the worst thing is this whole "MC becomes special, meets someone who has been special for a while and that person does not teach him the most important part about being special right away" that has been done like a million times before. Why is it so hard to just tell him straight away that he needs to feed on blood and how to do that? This is some cheap lazy ass fake tension/drama right there that is completely avoidable if the characters were slightly less retarded. "Oh look, he is going to become hungry and discover his lust for blood soon, better leave him alone with the one person that is trying to defend us as well as a bunch of angry people, what could possible go wrong while I play with those children?". Oh well, I sort of expected the show to be fairly weak in terms of writing and stuff; similar to SnK, I guess. Going to watch it for the action, not for the dialogue or characters...

I do wonder what anime would look like without all the LN otaku power fantasy adverts. Way smaller? Dead? Guess it's like how there's 10000 CSI clones on western TV or a billion reality TV shows. Keeps the money pumping so every now and then we get some quality seeping through the cracks.

One of the cheapest tricks to keep people watching...

[13:56:14] <Elem> "*This game is an authentic Mahjong game. (No undressing or nudity is included in the game.) " gg, dreams were shatteredIn case people haven't realized, Steam has an anime weekend-sale atm with lots of anime related titles being lots cheaper. Hyper Dimension Neptunia (the first one) is at -70%, so 8,39€ right now as an example.

i assume she didn't think he'd get stabbed during the 5 minutes she went away to do other things, probably the blood loss that.. 'made him hungry' and i wish Lovepon was in the chihayafuru universe so she could execute justice on taichi.

On another note: I started Kino no Tabi. Ep0 was decent but ep1 was absolutely amazing. I feel like this is going to be great ride. + Show Spoiler + The sense of adventure, discovering something new, especially those weird sci-fi/fantasy like places - I love that. And then they even picked up a very interesting topic: Not understanding each other as the source of pain in this world. I liked how they approached this. Simple thought reading isn't going to help the problem, it makes it worse. People need to bring in effort by themselves to try and understand people and get their message through. Not only by words but by actions. Understanding a person has nothing to do with knowing teir thoughts but with actually actively understanding why they think or feel that way. Man that was beautiful. It's also a little bit ironic because we just talked about serious, episodic shows. This seems to be exactly that. An episodic show that thrives on adventure, exploring, the taste of something new, conversations with strange people and their believes, philosphy etc. instead of an over-arcing plot.

'made him hungry' + Show Spoiler + Agreed, I didn't mind it that much. Even though it's funny that they both are "hungry" at the same time. But I agree that the characters are pretty awful... Well, Shingeki no Kyojin was the same in that regard and it still was fairly entertaining. So far this is true for Kabaneri as well.
