People think they are watching something new because they enjoy the fanservice a lot so they too blinded to realise that the show is pretty bland. The MC is also a complete Mary Sue, so that helps a lot as well. Ah makes sense. If only the idea of tanks/high tech weapons in fantasy world were trully unique, maybe then I'll rate it higher than 6/10 ~~ Well, gonna look for different title now. My backlog is over 200 titles. + Show Spoiler + I was wrong, though. It was the dog. Dammit. Proof of toxic caninity. I think Subaru will survive this time.

I wonder if we will see Roswaal fight at one point, given Betty says he's the strongest mage. We already saw him fly this ep.

RIP honestly? Seeing a middle aged, "normal" guy who has a job, would rather do otaku-stuff than his job but does it anyways to have a means of supporting his hobby was pretty refreshing to see for me. Rather than always the same 16-18 year old teenager MC who's strength is apparently being emotional in clutch situations and chasing his dreams (again, in contrast to the GATE MC who just has a job and slaves away because duh, that's life). Okay maybe he's not middle aged but certainly not a teenager. He still ended up being fucking OP like most other MCs so I'll give you that. But watching him was so much better for me than seeing another Kirito. So yeah, I'm one of those who liked it quite a lot. Also the whole military just straight up owning the fantasy world was good instead of some out of nowhere balanced fights even if it ended up being nationalistic pandering (in much the same way Independence day would be for people from the US I guess?). And yeah... tomato~

I mean, it makes some sense. For a curse to get applied you need make contact, and I'm not sure if a mere handshake would be enough. A dog bite is much more impactful. I watched the episode again (never done that for any anime so far lol) and gotta say he will not die. The dogs didn't really bite him enough from what I saw, I think if Rem can clear the dogs quickly (or someone comes to the rescue, Roswaal perhaps?) she can do some small healing and he'll survive. I just don't think we'll see any of that sadly, since everything seems to be from Subaru's point of view, so it's likely we'll see him waking up from a) surviving or b) dying in the next episode. Either way, if he survives Rem will be in a similar condition that Emilia was in, where Subaru risked his life to save her, so I expect this to clear any distrust from her mind. Also, I agree with Toad, I liked Gate for that reason alone, lol.

And yeah... tomato~ I feeel you, at the start I was pleasantry surprised that main hero is over 30 years old, working and still keeping up with his hobbies. Sadly that didn't change much in how boring he was in fact. Or perhaps he was supposed to be such, then they achieved exactly what they wanted. Surely not the worst MC, just mediocre like the whole series which is disappointing as he should really shine among bunch of second tier characters without any real backstory or progression. Even the army started being less of an army like at the beginning of the series and more like picnic special forces. Oh well, not everybody can be Tenma Kenzou

Hammers the "he's a normal guy" in a bit more. Just that him randomly being OP was really out of place.

Nothing crazy intriguing but decently excecuted and made sense alot of the time which is all you can ask for these days really.

The closest I can think to it that I've seen are like Escaflowne or Dunbine, but its not really the same thing. Maybe my limited experience made Gate's concept seem more novel than it actually is. Those Who Hunt Elves had quite similar concept, but it was pure comedy. A solid one to that, 1997 tho, so not for the fans of super smooth animations
