On the defense, the idea is neat. There's only one series from 90's with similar concept (Those Who Hunt Elves) but it was 100% comedy, can't recollect anything utilizing that idea. It's simple: Gate is shameless with it's pandering to the "otaku-culture" while taking a rather unique story-setting and squeeze in as much fan-service as they can to veil the rather poor execution of said setting. People think they are watching something new because they enjoy the fanservice a lot so they too blinded to realise that the show is pretty bland. The MC is also a complete Mary Sue, so that helps a lot as well. Ah makes sense. If only the idea of tanks/high tech weapons in fantasy world were trully unique, maybe then I'll rate it higher than 6/10 ~~ Well, gonna look for different title now. My backlog is over 200 titles. RIP honestly? Seeing a middle aged, "normal" guy who has a job, would rather do otaku-stuff than his job but does it anyways to have a means of supporting his hobby was pretty refreshing to see for me. Rather than always the same 16-18 year old teenager MC who's strength is apparently being emotional in clutch situations and chasing his dreams (again, in contrast to the GATE MC who just has a job and slaves away because duh, that's life). Okay maybe he's not middle aged but certainly not a teenager. He still ended up being fucking OP like most other MCs so I'll give you that. But watching him was so much better for me than seeing another Kirito. So yeah, I'm one of those who liked it quite a lot. Also the whole military just straight up owning the fantasy world was good instead of some out of nowhere balanced fights even if it ended up being nationalistic pandering (in much the same way Independence day would be for people from the US I guess?). And yeah... tomato~
I never said a teenage boy with random power ups is any better, did I? Also comparing him with Kirito, lol. I wouldn't have thought of that one myself. Anyways, all I did was calling him a Mary Sue. You can't really argue that because it's pretty much a fact. Your reaction also proves my point. Of course lots of people will like a Mary Sue because that's the freaking point of writing such a character.

FYI for people with good taste, the Girls und Panzer film is subbed now. I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet myself, but heres hoping it delivers!

Started out really interesting, got a bit boring towards the middle/end of season 1 then became more interesting again as we got further into season 2. I liked all the characters, even boring Itami lol. At least, he still felt like a responsible adult XD

The movie probably the best thing I've watched all year. It did all the things I wanted and all the things I didn't even know I wanted.
A good three-quarters of the movie is tank battles. Lots of throwbacks to previous events. Everyone who's relevant makes an appearance, and there are even new characters who ended up being pretty cool. The movie retains its sense of humor and still manages to be serious where appropriate.
The action is good, but the sound design and soundtrack is what makes scenes memorable. Add in competent directing and you've got a damn good movie.
I seriously can't praise it enough.

That has me hyped up then! Good to hear they know exactly what people want out of GuP.

Finished watching K:Missing Kings. Loved it! + Show Spoiler +I was really happy when Anna became the red king lol. She must've had the most difficult time considering recent losses. Also, Shiro will be making an appearance (as if they'll make him disappear for good lol) in Return of Kings which is making me excited. Can't wait to see more Silver King powers in action!

I didn't expect the common theme that is found on the top 4 is that popular. Also KonoSuba ez #1

Joker Game Ep. 9 + Show Spoiler +Rather enjoyed this episode, not anything too impressive but it was nice seeing that wannabe Wind Agency get completely "beaten up" by D-Agency, tbh didn't quite understand the thing about the Imperial Army's emblem though

Yeah it kinda felt like nothing happened but I was engaged and then before I knew it the episode was over. Very smooth, really enjoyed it.

+ Show Spoiler +Agree. It was nothing spectacular but somehow very engaging and satisfying.

Yeah, Legend of the Galactic Heroes is probably as close to being perfect as it gets. Hard to reach that kind of quality. I think there are arguably a handful of shows in other genres out there that come close.
So I loved the not emphasis on fights and more the emphasis on ideologies...any other animes you could recommend that keep that spirit?

Uh, keep that spirit, that's difficult. I think you should take a look at Monster. It's more of a thriller but without much action and a lot about psychlogical struggle and ideologies. I think it fits best for what you are looking for. You might also like Mushishi and Kino no Tabi, although both are episodic. Each episode features a short story of a new place, their people/society. Mushishi is more focused on single human beings while Kino no Tabi sets more focus on the society and systems of each place. Shinsekai yori would be another one that fits into that category but it is more "japanese" than all of the above.
Last but not least I would recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (just because I recommend that to everyone) and Ergo Proxy. Both have action but imho ideology (and philosophy) is a main point and appeal of those shows. Ergo Proxy thrives on mystery and the atmosphere of a deserted, dystopian sci-fi world while GitS:SAC thrives on its characters and, although dystopian, rather realistic view on a futuristic sci-fi world.
Note that I think that the fights in LotGH are an integral part of what makes the show so good. Not the action but because they bring out the characters and highlights their skill, intelligence and different abilities to approach those fights. Also note that no show has such a great cast of characters like LotGH. LotGH was carried a lot by its characters imho. Monster and GitS have a good cast, just not as good imho. Other shows set less emphasis on characters to the point where characters are basically plot-devices like in Shinsekai yori.

Gotta agree there, looks like we're getting lots of action next episode too, so I'm really looking forward to that. Also, idk but I get this feeling like Kunikida actually really dotes on Atsushi a lot though he doesn't really express it at all.
