Why? Because he's awesome, and because the GSL would not be the same (or nearly as epic) without him =)
Q. Why is Junkka so awesome?
A. Along with everything else said in this thread so far, he picks out questions for the interview and only a baller would pick questions by posters like "BigDongStudio", "SlayerS_BoneR" etc. etc. Only Junkka would brush aside the presentation ceremony to let us know that the trophy is indeed heavy, and that NesTea may be as tall or even taller than himself! - hdkhang
Junkk... who? GOM.TV's official translator, general assistant, bracket-maker, "hamster on the wheel that keeps the English stream running", and the duct tape that keeps the entire GSL from falling apart under its own weight. In short - he's a nerd baller of monstrous, legen... (wait for it) DARY proportions!
Korean/legal name - "준카" or "박준규" (need confirmation); John is his Catholic name, after John the Baptist (per his Tweets)

Post your signature in Black on a White background, and I'll Photoshop it in. Thanks to Vinn and Maul for this idea, which will result in a higher quality picture.

Here is how you add your signature:
Just save it as a .jpg file in your editing software and post it here.
Can we get a list on the OP for people who've signed it?
I'm sure you could find his FB page if you want, but that's just creepy; quit asking me, I'm not going to list it here. Msg him on Twitter or something.
I'm gonna be talking my own things now as there isn't anything important to translate.
First of all I'd like to say I have a great respect for NesTea not just because he won the tournament but because this guy had the courage to do what he wanted to do and proved he was right. I'm saying this because too many people even in Korea consider playing games is a waste of time. I, myself, was unemployed for 2 years *laughs*, 'bout a year and a half before I joined GOM. All I did was play games at home and my friends would say that I'm wasting my life. Well... uhm.. who's laughing now ? I asked them " Can you honestly say that you like your job " and I asked them " Do you have a fan who draws a fanart just for you ? ". That shuts them up.
So everytime you feel ashamed of being a nerd and your friends, teachers, neighbours and even parents think gaming is a waste of time you'll remember there's no such thing as wasting life as long as you have the courage to do what you like and be passionate about it. You'll remember, if NesTea listened to all those critics he wouldn't be standing there with a trophy and you'll remember that even if you feel nobody around you supports you that I, Jay, Artosis and Tasteless, everyone in GOM will support you. Why? Because we believe in eSports. *someone in the backgroud : "wow" *Junkka laughs* "I actually prepared this".
Ok now I see where all the misunderstanding is coming from.
Gretech is GOMTV. GOM stands for Gretech Online Media. We tried to contribute by making a tournament called GOMTV Classic(and it was first tournament anyone in Korea tried to broadcast to the rest of the world) but KESPA comes inand says we do not have the right to make tournaments when they don;t even pay copyright to Blizzard. They threaten all pro players that they will lose their license i they play in GOM Classic and manages to shut down GOM classic. Now we run GSL which we also send out English broadcast. And you say we have contriubted nothing? well maybe we would have done more if KESPA really did care about esports.
I can give credit to OGN and MBC but not Kespa. KESPA is an organization made of representives from sponsors not gaming fans. The esports todays exists because of the players and fans who support it. All Kespa has been doing is abuse their power to earn money. They forced OGN and MBC to pay 1500million KRW to broacast SC. Now they still won't pay Blizzard its copyright and offers 300 million to have all the right to SC tournaments and broadcasting. No wonder most Korean SC fans including myself hate KESPA.
I was absolutely outraged when I read the article about what Kespa did to NaDa after he joined SC2. NaDa probably contributed to esports 1000times more than Kespa and that's how they treat him.
I'm not saying Gretech is right and Kespa is wrong because I work for GOM. There is no right and wrong in reality. But I'd rather support GOM which tries to care for global fans even though it's small and underfunded rather than Kespa which doesn't give a damn about global fans cuz most sponsors don't see any merit in it. I really wish situation hadn't come to this, causing disturbance to fans all over the world, but there seems little choice left now.

I don't think he's actually the official translator...? He's said numerous times he just does that on the side. As Tastosis said he's the hamster in the wheel making sure we can enjoy an english stream. And while Tastosis meant that as a joke, I think he is in fact responsible for the english stream behind the scenes...?
Anyway, Junkka's speech inspired me and improved by APM by 20 and this afternoon I beat a 2100 diamond player (me being 1400 diamond) and was king of the hill for 5 matches in a row vs 1600-2100 diamond players before I had to leave to make food (undefeated, woo! :p).
JUNKKA is now "THE VOICE" ( of the voiceless e-sport lovers ( us ) ). such a strong, acfecting and courageous speech in front of SO MANY BANELINGS VIEWERS !
He grows more and more comfortable on camera during each interview. If you remember the earliest translations from season 1 and now look at how comfortable he is willing to put himself out there even more. You go Junkka you're the man.

I don't know what his official title is but he mentioned on his twitter that he is one of the people responsible for making the brackets. He's also mentioned that translating is just an extra thing he does on the side.
Junkka, I'm glad we have you both in front of the camera and behind the scenes because you do great work for the community. I'm especially grateful to have translations as a bonus; You shouldn't doubt your abilities, you do fantastic work in a difficult situation. 박준규 화이팅!
I want in, from the first translation I saw him do it was clear that the dude is a total baller. Epic speech only further enforces that. Plus him with Artosis is pretty funny.

Wow, thanks for the awesome turnout of info and support so far. I'll start updating when I can and make him a Liquipedia page when I have a chance. Post anything that you think is relevant and I'll include it here =)
Junkka is awesome. For every series Tasteless and Artosis bring us, he's got an interview translation. That's 64 interviews per GSL season, which is a TON of content. It isn't even his job, he does it because he loves the community. Sign me up!

As someone who has followed my own dream in my life (not esports), I wholeheartedly agree with Junkka. This pertains to more than just esports and I applaud Junkka for saying it. Do not be afraid to be who you are, because who you are is all that matters in life. You only live once, make it what you want it to be.
I originally thought that the speech was a translation and then I realised that it couldn't be because the lady stopped talking and his use of pronouns seemed weird if the lady said it.
Directly from his Twitter: @CallMeTasteless I lost important match cuz of your phonecall. I only forgive u cuz ur handsome
Hahaha, there's a three way going on here. I loved this guy from GSL1 for having the bravery to translate, I love him even more as he opens up more and more everyweek.
Sorry for the meme but here it is, spoiler mode: + Show Spoiler +
Sign me up for the club, he's so awesome. Also how do you put your sig in the pic? Can someone sign pred470r for me too I would appreciate it very much <3

I doubt that would catch on
Yea, maybe it's ambitious, but it could be a great tribute to this speech.
I feel a little bit bad. Hwanni has been our trusted translator for a long time and we haven't treated him near as good. He even translated interviews for GSL3 qualifiers. Don't get me wrong, John is awesome, but I think Hwanni needs some love also.
Was a fan before, became a fan forever with that speech at the GSL Finals. It really resonated with me, because I had all sorts of crazy dreams about being a writer or columnist years ago, and I never did anything about it until 2005, when it actually happened. John's speech expressed how I feel better than I could.
I love the idea of signing the image and sending it to him, however the problem of everyone signing it and then resaving it is that .jpg isn't a lossless format, meaning the more times it gets signed and saved, it's going to lose quality, and it will eventually look terrible.
Not everyone uses the same photo editing software, however, if everyone could sign it using black on a white background it can be added to the image in one go and only have to be resaved once, thus greatly preserving the quality of the final image.
Here's the template (you can have it whatever size you like, but the more signatures the smaller they will have to be):

Here is how you add your signature:
Just save it as a .jpg file in your editing software and post it here.
Here is the implementation using the layer blending set to "darken":
Of course, this is just a suggestion, but as I said, the more times a jpg file gets saved, even using the best quality, it will eventually degrade into a poor quality mess.

Vinn, the artist, suggested this to me as well. I thought this way people could sign wherever they like/in cool ways, but I hadn't considered quality loss. I'll add in everyone's sigs with my mad PS skills

I can't believe I missed that speech first, a friend just told me "yeah john said some stuff, that he believes in esports and so on". today I listened to it and was completely blown away :o
Okay, I've redone my signature as a PNG. Thanks for doing this!
EDIT: It might be easier if people use PNG with a transparent background, if they have paint software that supports this. That way it's faster to overlay the signature on the poster background without having to do any other work. Just in case this helps:
During qualifiers HuK mentioned I had TL fanclub. Thanks to notlobot I was able to find the link and here I am. I have read every thingle thread and am overwhelmed by your support. Although I am one of those people who do not like attention and like to stay behind I would be lying if I said I am not enjoying this. Thank you very much!
As for name clarification. 박준규 is my legal name. Junkka is just what my friend from Finland used to call me when I was living in Norway(His nickname was Henkka). I have been using it ever since.
As for my title. I don't have any. My insurance company or fund manager keeps asking me what my occupation is and I always don't know what I am as my job is something unique. Officially I am a member of Operation team in e-sports diviosn at GOM. But even among GOM staff people are confused where I belong as I do lot of work concerning gomtv.net department, production team or PR department.
If you are interested in my backgroud here are some simple facts.
- I have lived in UK, Slovenia(Yugo Slavia back then), Norway and Germany. - I graduated from SKKU the oldest university in Korea and majored in Journalism and Mass Media. - I worked in a PR company before I discovered it was a not a job for me and went jobless. - I live in Yong-In. A city just outside Seoul. 2 hours away from the studio. - As I could no longer afford my rent I have been living with my parents ever since April this year. It is custom in Korea for eldest sons to live with their parents before and after marriage. - I have one younger brother who is a martial artist.
Does it have to be a signature looking font/MS paint draw in? Would anyone mind if I photoshopped in normal looking text? Also, if I have time, I could all some of the signatures here but I'm fairly busy.
The opinon that matters most is Junkka's of course I don't know if he's reading this though.
John is truly amazing! He's one of those guys who really care about esports and are pushing its growth further and further, keep up the amazing work you do John!
I think John's outlook on gaming is great for esports. He really is making a big contribution by interfacing with the non-korean demographic. Thank you john.
If I go to korea, the first thing I'll do is to search for Junkka and ask for permission to give him a big hug. He's like a big cozy bear whom everyone loves.
Thanks John for clearing up the random maps issue. If it came from anyone other than you, I might not believe it - but coming from you, i believe that all the maps are random.
I might suggest numbering the maps (alphabetically or some other way) and using a site like random.org to pick the maps. That way all human error can be avoided
Can someone please help me out? I'm new to this site, and I don't know how to link my signature to Junkka's poster. I'm using photobucket. As you can see, I joined this site just now, but I have lurked around here for a while now. It would mean a lot to me.
Yay, I figured it out! :D If you could add this to the poster, that'd be great. If that's over then, oh well I guess. YOU'RE DOING A GREAT JOB JUNKKA, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
Nope, still going with the poster. I'll wrap it up when GSL3 is over. If Artosis could give this a shoutout on the stream, that'd be awesome... just sayin

I love his live translation at this GSL season. John reduces the big load of korean words to small sentences, yay. this live translation is so hard for someone who has not learned that as a profession, like talking and listening at the same time because of the limitation of the Short-term memory.

Lol,how is smoking related to esports anyways? In soccer you have players getting drunk screwing prostitutes cheating on your own teammates and many more.

I think about John baby and the interviews you did from last time. I'm here without John baby, but you're still trolling in my dreams. And tonight John, it's only troll and me.
Can anybody link me to that hilarious video where Artosis says John likes the show YuGiOh, but John refutes it, and Artosis starts laughing. I know I've seen it on YouTube, but can't find it recently.
Aww yeah! Another great speech. It's gotta be difficult to do a speech in a foreign language in front of such a large crowd, especially since he usually seems shy. Good job John!
dear john, im a man, therefore im not supposed to cry. so why you made me having tears in my eyes?.... gosh i love you (bromance style ofc ) sign me the hell up :D
John, coming from a casual SC2 fan, you make SC2 & the GSL so much more meaningful by the passion you show everyday. I truly appreciate all that you do for e-sports. Thank you!
Beautiful speech, John. Money or politics can't buy the kind of international unity you see at a MLG or Blizzcon. The awards ceremony reminded me of when Slumdog Millionaire won at the Oscars; really shows how interconnected the world is, and how appreciation of dedication and passion is universal.
It IS a miracle.
You have a bright future as an ambassador of eSports, John! Fighting!

I know everyone loves him but even i was surprised the amount that everyone cheered him whenever he was on stage it was crazy.
Just needs to be more confident and he would be even better. I read some complaints in the LR thread that he skipped some stuff that mma and mvp said. Still i dont think i would be able to speak properly let alone translate in front of that big a crowd. Mad props to him.
I want my name to be in the members list! sign me up! What a GREAT individual! That speach at blizzcon, so much passion for the game, the esports! What a true HERO!!!!!!
You were an ambassador at blizzcon john, far more than anyone else. You brought player, spectator and producer together and did korea proud. Respect, with a capital R.

I applaud this picture, and you sir for being such a scholar.
While on American soil for Blizzcon, he fathered 27 children. Within hours of their birth they were already Grandmasters on the NA servers and ready to form 2 professional teams.
This moment was the combination of one of the most amazing speeches and one of the most passionate crowds. I'm really proud to have watched the stream live and wish I could have been in the audience for this.
That speech, and his first speech, will go in esports history, as they both deserve
Absolutely I'm IN!! He is truly just as passionate about our community and our favorite sport as we all are. Thankyou for all your hard work and I got tears when I saw John getting teared up at blizzcon last night. Such a great memorable moment for Starcraft and Esports. We love you man!! Amazing night!! YOU TELL THEM YOU WERE HERE AT BLIZZCON 2011 AND YOU SAW THE GSL FINALS!!!!
