I don't think we will ever see another Stephano because these days its almost impossible if you an unknown player to get invited to anything MLG is a joke I think you are being unfair. Not to the scene - its so closed - but to the starcraft 2 players. There are so many up and comers from Europe playing in big tournaments. Look at SortOf, Snute, Cytoplasm, welmu and roof in MLG Summer Arena. With all the online tournaments I think there are plenty of chances for new talent to prove themselves and get in with the big guys. Not that it doesn't take hard work tho.
These up and coming players would never get a chance in this new MLG format.

This man is one of the greatest SC2 players that will go down in history as the Jaedong of SC2.
Only better. As much as I'd love to see him become the Jaedong of SC2, we all know that ain't gonna happen. He has the most insane potential, even greater than all the bw gods combined, but there aren't enough factors to pull that insane talent out. It saddened me greatly come to that conclusion. Any of you who watched his play for longer periods, must have catched some moments that were absolutely out of this world. The level of pure genius he displayed in some brief occasions is so beyond anyone ever seen in sc. But there can be no persistence with that talent. He doesn't have a decent not even close to decent training environment, I'm not bashing at EG here. Not even about the whole western scene that has a flat dumb skill ceiling compared to korea. Even if he practiced full time in korea in houses like TSL, that still wouldn't be enough to pull that talent out and make it a constant in every event. The only thing that could do that is for him to truly dedicate to sc. Not see it like a one time fling before I go to some lame medical school, but as the thing that crowns your entire life achievement, the most important thing that you could do in your entire life. If he would ever see his sc2 career like that, he would become so godly nobody would ever have a chance in getting close to him. I'm also sick of his bullshit with medical school. He has all the chances and support to win more than 3 lifes of doctor paychecks WHILE doing something he ( i'd like to belive) actualy likes. You understand training does not scale, and that it's not mathematical. It's not because you train 20h per day that you will be the best player in the world. Mental state and balanced life matter a lot. You have to be happy in life, find your rythm and everything. I don't want to bash you, but I rarely see such a wrong post. + you have no idea about doctor paychecks amount.
Agreed
For some clarity, doctor paycheques vary based on specialty and location. All of them make quite a lot of money usually upwards of 100k a year (if a general practitioner, in canada, as my mother is) and several times that if a specialist (such as my father for example who makes around 400 000 a year). All that pales in comparison to what many doctors in the united states make what with their "private healthcare". Though I don't know the exact figures on that, nor do I know what doctors make in Europe, (though in my province of Alberta here in Canada for a while our premier was pushing for a more european model of healthcare but it was shut down by people who feared we'd end up with a two tiered health care system like the state's infamously have).

Well thank god for that. I'm just worried about trends. If the MLG business model turns out to be successful other organisations and tournaments will properly follow. You know what we got then? WWE starcraft!! " Tune in the Hulkinator vs the Stephinator only on pay per view"

StarCraft 2 is growing. And for it to grow efficiently, organizations like MLG need the popularity to back it up. You, who pretty much worship Stephano, should know that he stated he prefers invitation over painfully long qualifications.
Edit : Meh, double post. Sorry.

Well of course he prefers invitation which player wouldn't that. But he didn't get famous of invitation he qualified and kicked ass ever since! And I don't agree with you that MLG need popularity its a bloody sport competitions not WWE.

Sport is entertainment. Like it or not. ( and by the way, it's not a sport though ) But whatever SC 2 is, it has to entertain. Either it entertains the audience or it has no future.

I understand that my problem is when the entertainment takes precedence over the competition. Football is entertainment also but UEFA dont invite the most popular teams in the champions league they make them qualify. The scene will grow as long sc2 got a respected competitive scene. Inviting popular players and seeding players based on nationality is simply not right in a competitive scene.
I feel we are at a crossroad either we want a respected competitive scene like any other sport or we chose the WWE alternative. You cant have both
|
You're missing the big picture here. MLG is only a part of the scene, not everything. And a large part of the audience actually likes being able tu support a fellow countryman. And I'm not quite sure what you mean when you talk about respect. I don't think an invitational tournament like the MvP will cause a respect loss for the scene, quite the opposite.
Entertainment -> Popularity -> Growth of the scene -> Money -> Hooray big tournaments.
We need both qualifiers and invitational. Don't worry, other tournaments will still run qualifiers.

Its not just about the invites of NA players even though its also extremely unfair. The other problem is Kespa is taking most of the spots. It feels like Kespa trying to force none Kespa teams out of the global scene and MLG is happy to accommodate them. The GSL teams get 1 spot. 1 bloddy spot its insane.
The hole thing is a disgrace and I for surden will not support this joke of an organisation called MLG

Hey guys. Are the vods/replays of stephano in korea up somewhere or not yet?

Your all delusional if you truly belive Stephano will actually become a doctor. This medical school seems more like a parent imposed idea, like the old story of "when you grow up you have to become something respectable like a doctor". At his ages he has no idea what he really wants in life. My bet is he will change his mind and drop the doctor pursuit sooner or later and get into something else.
