He didn't just call a black guy darker. First, he mentioned he was interviewing him for diversity which was kinda funny and the crowd laughed. Then, he went on saying he was a darker audience member which was kinda awkward but not that bad. Then he went on to ask him what the 50th president was(they're are 44 or something) and the guy is like "uhh barack obama?" terry laughs asks him again he says "george bush" then terry laughs at him again. He basically pointed out he was black then embarrassed the shit out of him. It was super cringe worthy. The guy was there by him self and that probably made him feel awkward as balls. I thought the president thing was really what put it over the edge.

yeah his questions have been fucking lame since the beginning. and the word cringe perfectly describes the situation with the black guy. lol when he said his name was Jaamal I thought Terry would joke about the fact his name is a black guys name.
still #FREETERRY
hope he learned something today. We cant afford to lose you again Terry!!!

Everything past "bad" is what Terry's job is, and what so many people love him for.

and it seems to be why the NASL guys were so annoyed with him.

No it's the bits before "bad" that NASL are pissed at him for.

Yeah! How dare he make an observation that there were very little black people at the event! Shame on him, that's racist! He asked a troll question. He is meant to be awkward. Nothing he did was wrong in the least bit. If they don't like his awkward videos, stop letting him do it. DON'T fire him for it.

oh, I felt as if they were annoyed because he got instant ''fame'' even though he sucked at his job.
Meh, its clear he didnt mean to be racist just troll/awkward. I wonder how many years need to pass before ppl will stop being so butthurt about racism in usa.

Probably a few years after real racism stops. /shrug

Guys, the internship was over anyway 'cause Terry has to go back to school. NASL just pulled him a couple hours early to avoid a shitstorm. Kinda dumb move IMHO, but it's not like they told him to GTFO three weeks before his gig was done.
hi terry, this is sang (in the white short sleeved button up).
really glad to have met you this weekend! your constant energy really made this season's WCS so great! hope to still see you hang around ESPORTS if you're not too busy studying!
best of luck in everything you do and please bring your wonderful positivity with you!
NASL showed poor judgment in how they handled this situation. Kids (young adults are still kids) make foolish decisions all the time. Do you think Terry wouldn't learn from this?
Let's look at what really happened here. Terry attempted to make a racial joke that was not appropriate for that forum, but that's not to say it's not appropriate anywhere (despite the poor execution). People make racial jokes all the time. Terry did not act out of some deep-seeded racism; he simply wanted to be funny and to entertain the people watching. He just did it in a bad way.
Show some better judgment, NASL. If you really had someone calling for Terry's head, I can assure you they are the vast minority. I'm the type of fan you're looking to attract to e-sports: I don't even play SC2, yet I love watching games. Tread lightly.
He was terminated because of an off-remark subtle racial joke? I didn't see it remotely racial and jusk a small nervous joke to lighten it up. Damn, people are too sensitive some times!
Judging by the posts, a lot of people do not think Terry's comments were bad enough to warrant termination. Some of the comments were: "We need to grow up." "Pple need to stop being so butthurt about racism." "Damn, people are too sensitive sometimes." "Being politically correct has gone too far."
I shake my head because you guys don't really understand how close-minded you guys really are.
They were about race, they were not racist. Talking about/mentioning race isn't the same as racism. Maybe it offended the guy that he said it explicitly, but I bet most of the audience was thinking "wow, a black guy, they aren't very common in the SC2 scene". That's not racist, that's an observable fact. There are not many black people in the SC2 community as players, casters, or typically in the audience at events. It's not racist to say it.
It might have been awkward for the guy in the audience, but it wasn't meant as a racist thing. As I said, highlighting race != racist. If you say that most sprinters and long distance runners in athletics are black, is that racist? If you say "wow, a white dude made it to the 100m final" is that racist? It's an observation of something unusual where race is the differentiating factor, but that does not mean it's racist, it's just an observation.
If it's racism, then every observation about race is racist, like showing white guys in the crowd in Korea, or calling everyone non-Korean a "foreigner". In which case the whole SC2 community is absurdly racist. Most people would think that race and racism are different things, although some people might think any observation about race must be inherently racist.
Also, pretty sure most of the crowd was white. And he is Asian. Highlighting another guy in the crowd who is also a minority. The only asian dude and the only black dude sitting together in the audience.

Like most racists, you don't realize you are really racist.
I disagree. Talking about race is not racism. Furthermore, a racist does know that he is a racist. If he doesn't, yet he acts as one, then it's a problem people should talk to him about for him to correct it. [Edit] And sometimes it is more about education than anything else, like «developed countries» thinking we Mexicans travel my donkeys and sleep all day next to a cactus (I've been sincerely asked whether we had cars and TVs in Mexico).
The fact that I think black people are, in average, better at running or basketball does not make me a racist. Neither does the fact that I think Mexicans go to the USA because they need to suck on that country because of the lack of opportunities in theirs —and I'm Mexican.
Just picture this: a western guy on the Korean WCS public; someone goes to talk to him and says something funny like "how does it feel being all by yourself here?". I'm guessing you would laugh, even though it is pretty much the same.
As someone already said, people who are not racists are way more like that when trying not to be racist: the fact that you care about others looks and try not to do or say something wrong based on that means you just can't see them as one of your people. And that's just sad for you Americans.
In Mexico for example, racial jokes are well accepted. You cannot actually mean them or act on stereotypes, but you can joke about it as long as it is the right place and time to do so. What Terry did was awkward and he totally seemed nervous: there's just no way you can put a newb like him on air and expect him not to do or say something that would feel out of place...
