The game is just based too heavily around profits in my opinion, and that makes it boring in the long run.
My thoughts exactly, it was fun but too long to grind. Without the premium account the game is unplayable.

I don't know what you're talking about. I've played my way up to tier 8 without buying any gold. I just enjoy the gameplay enough that i don't mind grinding.
If you have friends to platoon with, the fun is doubled, and suddenly the grind becomes FUN. After that, there's companies, where you go at it with people you are talking with, and then teamwork becomes real.
In my opinion, you haven't experienced the whole fun of the game until you've done companies with your buddies. And, if you're just in for the fun, grab a couple low tier tanks that you can play in pubs. Some of my reccomandations are:
- BT-2 and M2 Light Tank: These two are tier 2s, so you will only be placed against tiers 1-3. What this means is that you get to duel with tanks your level, and then it is your skill that matters more so than the tank you drive.
- Marder II: This little TD is a tier 3, and it's incredibly fun because it sports a gun worthy of a tier 5 in a hull that has a nice camo bonus. This means you can play the role of the sniper excellently in battles up to tier 5. Watch for the heavies though, most of the time you need to shoot their sides or a weak spot to penetrate them.
- T-50: This is a tier 4 light tank, and it's not the fastest (only going 60 km/h); but it's definitely the most maneuverable of all light tanks in the game, and is in fact the go-to scout in medium companies.
To summarize, if you're in the need of a premium account, you're probably not focusing on enjoying the gameplay, but rather on advancing no matter what; and while this is a must in other MMOs, in World of Tanks it isn't as much. Unless you want to do Clan Wars, but that's way too hardcore.
kunstderfugue thanks for the advice about the T2 paths, me and my friend mostly play t3/t4 but we get so tired of heavies. I told him about the BT-2 thing and we decided to try it because its so cheap on money/exp. We are 8-3 in our BT-2s with the only losses being when we're against T4s and just have a bad game. We're already elited and trying to get crew to 100%, I suggest other people try this for a more skill based play style sometimes. It's still fun to pewpew in big tanks, though!
Europe server updated today, downloading the patch right now.
I've been playing since December now, no premium account, I'm working down several tech trees, tanks I have at the moment are IS, VK3001H, M18 Hellcat, A-20, JagdPzer IV, T-50 and Hummel. When you get to higher tiers the credits rather than XP become the major issue, I have Tiger P, Panther and T-50-2 unlocked but can't afford any of them right now but still having great fun with the game.
kunstderfugue, T-50-2 is essentially T-50 with more HP, more armour, a more damaging gun and a higher top speed, looking forward to it a lot.
I'm TheGodlikeParagon if anyone wants to play on EU server.
They promised to do something about the T-50-2 because of its unrealistic design. Although a promise from WG is not worth much, it probably won't remain this way.
The next patch will bring two new game modes: - "Assault" - where one team defend the base and the other is gonna try to capture it - The second game mode will be like that: there is gonna be only one base and both teams have to capture it
You can watch a small preview on youtube, but it is on russian. Also around 4:04 you can spot a new medium (premium?) tank Super Pershing T26E4 The Video on russian language
what is the best tank to buy for the value? i'm talking gold tanks here...kinda tired of getting in games where i'm t4, and there are like 3 t8's on each team...even t7's i do no dmg to

I'd recommend a KV-5 or a Lowe if you're willing to pay for a premium tank and you want to go straight up to a tier 8. If you're tier 4 and getting put in with tier 8s and such it means you're in a light tank, your purpose in the game is to scout for your SPGs, TDs and heavies, not fight directly.

Not that I know of, I'm TheGodlikeParagon on the Europe server though, IS is my highest tank but hopefully getting IS-3 reasonably soon, I'm up for gaming if we're on at the same time. My tanks atm are: IS, M18, Hummel, T-50-2, T-34, JagdPz IV and Panther.
just seen that there will be t10 mediums + tank destroyers! maybe some1 might actually use them now =D (especially TD's) may actually level up to the russian t10 medium when its there since im bored of my t10/t9 tanks and i always wanted to have the t54 anyways
I got my T-44 a few days ago and i've put like 50 games into it so far...
holy shit this thing is a beast... im at 70% winrate, ~1400xp wins, 600+ losses, averaging huge profits every match for credits... The LB1, combined with the speed and low profile of the chassis makes for an incredible snipe-and-flank machine... I'm loving it.. can't wait for the T-54 :D
