To those who haven't played it; the game isn't bad, but isn't going to wow you with any particular strength. However, it has a lot of everything, and is very sandbox-y (medieval EVE). To those who play; The following ruined the game for me, in order of importance 1) Cheaters 2) 'Racism' and lack of english-speaking community 3) Degregation of game mechanics over time, with poor fixes I really enjoy the game, the open-endedness of it brings great times, and a surprisingly high skillcap (depending on class) gives the game depth. The game's support is unfortunately lacking, in both rule enforcement and development. Chief of all is the cheating - if you don't cheat, you can't keep up. Good community can still salvage the game from these problems, but the fleeting english speaking community (combined with the inability to effectively* transfer servers) put the final nail in the coffin for tibia players.

i remember they were the OP class because they basically did the most damage and were ranged I NEVER understood mages i mean.. wtf... You cant "cast spells" because you never have mana and you regen at like, 10 mana an hour, and when you do its just to make runes which you can sell later or some stupid bs like that Mages arn't actually spellcasters, they are just really crappy class that hits things in melee with a mace

Had magic lv 50 at lv 40 quited after all irl friends started go back to CS 1.6 A irl friend of mine was paladin he had BOT and damn his distance fighting was ridiculous 1shotting everything and powerlevling fast. funny being hunted just because you were a Swe and the serv was overrun by PL and BR ow god best epic wars ever. Lets not forget Powerabuser PAY BP SD/UH/HMM U SWE! HUNTED!!! :D best ever!!! Right now Tibia is stupid and boring, back in the old days was the epic glory days... i mean they have mounts now lol.. wands, and PVP is dead and lots of cheaters as allways i still remember the day you actually wanted to be premium when they made Darashia,Ankrahmun glory days.. There are still a few Protection zone bugs in Ankrahmun you can have White skull and if you just killed someone you can enter PZ :D requires mapclicking and utani hur at some places. i used to host private servers and made donations items man you get alot of money to your paypal for that and you need good PVP server and actually stay active not like 90% of Tibia private servers were the GM is hardly online and not fixing anything.

So you mean mages actually use magic now? As opposed to levelling by hitting stuff with a mace?

I could give you a detailed description of how to hunt as a mage in Tibia however I simply cannot be bothered. All I can say is you can buy runes, you can buy mana potions. That should be a big enough hint as to how to play those vocations.

The game got killed by the players playing it, the whole freedom aspect to the game was absolutely great. But not enforced properly resulting in players abusing that freedom, which in turn lead to Cipsoft reducing the freedom. Ergo Tibia lost its unique aspects.

I mean, the main way to get money i thought was selling bags of runes that you made yourself but i was a noob lol I guess if you are stacked with money you can get tons of expensive runes and mana pots and use those to level faster right

It used to be harder to get your supplies' worth back as a mage, however the type of hunting you described usually ended at around level 28-30. Surely being rich helps and can get you to level up a lot quicker, especially as a mage.

I liked the gameplay and feel to the game, but you get penalized so much just for dying though. I got really, really, really mad when I got disconnected twice and died both times within a few hours... Blessings and AoL doesn't help with loss that much.

This feature greatly enhances the focus in getting friends and making alliances just to keep yourself safe. SC2/WoW does not even remotely compare to the excitement which I could get from playing Tibia. In fact, it feels kinda dull :-/

I know it sounds pussy but this isnt wow i really am not interested in playing pvp politics - i always have the feeling that on a non-pvp server the community will just be better

I wouldn't say that non-pvp servers have better communities though, usually those servers got more people online than pvp servers however that also means more 12 year old polaks/brazilians. However if you don't enjoy pvping/the thrill of getting owned any second by other players than I'd definitely go to non-pvp.

I remember back in 7.4 how terribly bad the preview for the 7.5 patch looked. They were introducing Soul Points as an anti-botting measure, but what it made was make rune-creating incredibly boring(I'd rather sit, fish and create runes than grid for soul points) and eventually 7.6 destroyed the rune market. Now runes stack in one slot? Boo. I loved the backpack concept. The capacity concept. Tibia was hard. Reaaaally hard. People complain that there is reputation grinding in WoW. Tibia is a grind fest period. Oh you want to have enough damage to fight monsters and get exp? HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS of skill farming. Oh your damage is low? HOURS AND HOURS creating runes farming your magic level. Ever since they changed all formulas to be based on your experience Level more than your skill level or magic level, I got sad. Was fun to watch 80/80 lv 8s on Dolera/Inferna raping people left and right. Oh well. It was fun.

New tibia has some good concepts, but they tried to go casual, which ended up losing them players in the long run because the average casual cares about graphics.

It sounds like a lot has changed, but in a way a lot hasnt. I think whilst it was awesome at the time, the engine and mechanics of the game are still ridiculously frustrating (lol diagonal movement) and very off putting. Some things were absolutely awesome, like the whole skill grinding thing But some things were just a joke, like the fact that basically playing mages or priests were non classes, since theres no way to really get mana and the only good use of your mana is to spam runes all your life and sell them on. Getting exp was basically equivalent to playing melee mage >_>

Oh, there was one more, when I found some AFK guy in the wild skilling with some macro. I decided to punish cheating by killing him(hah! I am so good person;P), and looting some cool parts of armor (knight armor? something like that). It was worth quite a lot, but soon after few hours some players started to blackmail me for this, and I was too scared to leave safezone since then;P Those were fun days;)

I remember my friend's protector being an avid protector of the Dog that spawns in Thais. If the Dog got killed, he would kill the person that killed the Dog :D I used to play this with a friend of mine, a few years later (Pacc this time). We had great fun, except for the many, many botters around, which resulted in us leaving again

Turns out admins had no interest at that time and hosting (gamigo.de) made some changes pretty quickly. Lack of interest from admins made no backup survive. R.I.P. WoT On August 20 2012 22:33 Chaosu wrote: Some great memories posted here. Tibia is constantly updating and nowadays endgame goals are rare items which requires a lot of hunting. Death penatly was reduced (well it wasn't but there are ingame tools to reduce it greatly which everyone uses) especially when being killed by player. This of course makes leveling easier and killing enemies harder (because death don't cost them much). That's why there are less wars and they are more about getting frags/disbanding guild as you can't make someone quit that way. The only thing you can do to make someones life pain is follow him on hunting ground and lure/steal his exp but that takes a lot of time. That's why every content update (yearly) introduces mostly quests/hunting grounds for high levels and engame items which are really hard to obtain. Other "improvements" and features includues mounts (for bragging), offline training (doh) and world quests (require a lot of teamwork, most pvp worlds can't make them because of too little active players). Interstingly, 4 years later this is still all true. This is the direction of Tibia. New generation of equipment seems to be introduced every 2-3 years, with smaller content updates (possibly also endgame items but in smaller quantities) every half year. Also the update cycle is still 2 major updates a year, one content-focused and one balance/rework focused. ----- One more thing that actually got me here. On WoT forums in 2005 someone advertised his small browser game called CastleAge. It finished in 2006 with total domination of 4 players and project died. Creator mailed me recently about putting it back up, it's available here: http://eohere.de/castlenet/ if anyone is interested in some nostalgia trip. Fun experience, as always, to play something you haven't seen for 10 years (which is eternity in terms of games and webdesign). I know TL has big reach some maybe someone reading this played the game before.
