- huge clusterfuck of AoE effects - masses of minions like pets/clones/illusions etc. - just conquest mode Boring to play because: - conquest - mashing of keys for skills on cd, no sense of decision making in battles - boring stuck meta since forever - skill cap is relatively low It basically has no feature to be an esports (it actually never had in my opinion, but everyone is so hyped about esports all the time right now...). The competetive player base of the game left it for a big part 2 month into the game and the rest left over the last year. PvP is basically dead in this game besides a handful of people farming ranks and some casuals that make playing even more a chore. There are definately less players playing sPvP right now than players playing gw1 pvp and everyone says that gw1 is dead/gw2 has a bigger player base in general.

This is what I like about it actually. This is the best MMO to play if you don't want to play a MMO lol. I just go back to it, mainly for the sPvP element of it and play a bunch because I always liked that. I was a big battleground player in WoW, just playing alone in pubs because there's always those few great moments when you win good 1v1 or 1vX. I like the "cosmetic only" approach to PvP. And since the game skill ceiling is quite low, and most hardcore pvp players have left ( I was one at the start, had a few months of alpha experience so it was easy ), I can comeback after a few months and still be really good. I guess it's just my personal way to kill my " I want to play an MMO " envy everyone get every so often. But I'm a PvP guy that like to play alone, so it helps.

There are not even 1000 players at prime time on servers last time I checked.

There are not even 1000 players at prime time on servers last time I checked. 9 (?) months ago when i revisited guild wars for 3 months or so RA had about 20 people maximum across the entire game (since its global.), nobody in team arenas and HA had been abandoned for 1-2 years according to people i spoke to other then people win-trading with henchmen (literally, 2 teams every few days for a while). GvG was also just as inactive although probably the most active of the 4 modes. Guild wars did not recieve such a sudden huge boost in popularity and resurgence of its pvp scene, even with the 20 i saw being 2000 it wouldn't rival GW2. Guild wars 2's PvP is not "dead", the hot-join matches are consistently popular and 10+ of them remain active even off-peak. The tournament mode queues are fine and experience the usual lull off-peak and fast queues on-peak. WvW is to be considered a form of PvP too, which is still alive and kicking on most servers with hundreds participating during peak times and always people on every map. I have experienced both NA and EU sPvP and the scenes are far from dead with rank farmers and casuals. I stress again that it is far from dead, many teams actively participate in sPvP and many guilds focus solely on it and recruit for it in both regions. Im not even sure how sPvP works in regards to servers, if im correct the mists are server-locked while the queues and hot-joins are not or servers are grouped together, not sure. Either way, there is a split between EU and NA and taking just one of those regions trumps guild wars 1's numbers by many, many times. This doesnt mean that guild wars 2 pvp is as popular or experiences the mass amount of numbers it had at release, it has drastically fallen off and the level of competitiveness has completely degraded too but sPvP and WvW both still have strong active scenes in both EU and NA. Also, this still doesnt mean sPvP is good to spectate, play or anything imbetween, im just pointing out miragee's complete lies and bias. EDIT: But fuck, i wish you were right and i could go back and play GW PvP like i wanted and tried to. At the time of checking, 1 community teamspeak server for 1 EU server has 150+ people on it. Primarily used for w+spvp. Assuming the majority either use their own teamspeak or dont at all thats a fair few.

The dodge mechanic is also interesting. But the rest... Just the way the skills work, etc, it makes for a huge cluster and there's hardly any organization. You just spam skills and dodge hoping to live, there's little strategy involved, which is a shame. I played a whole lot when I first bought the game, now I log in every now and then and that's about it. I still find myself wishing they had done a better job with PvP.

The mists aren't server locked. And I don't know about them being region locked. WvW is fairly populated. I didn't speak about that one, only about sPvP. I like WvW btw. because the combat system counts less there which leads to a greater experience due to other mechanics. It has it's problems but it's by far the best mode in GW2 imho.

I love guild wars 1 but the things you are saying dont add up to it being more populated then GW2. Bonus weeks are known to revitalise pvp briefly because it will lure in the rest of the playerbase, not attract old/new players back long-term. I saw the same last year. We both apparently love GW1's pvp over GW2's. You even like WvW which is cool, but GW1 isnt more popular then GW2 and hasn't been at any period during GW2's release (which again, a total shame.) I like GW2's sPvP too really, the conquest mode helps to split the fighting into smaller skirmishes to water down the clusterfuck. I used to play point-guard for a team at release that was alot of 1v1 and it got quite technical with positioning and timing skills (I remember being able to steamroll most until i met this one guy who just anal raped me, there is a definite skill ceiling to the game.). GW2's pvp isnt as bad as people say it is for playing or spectating but its still pretty bad in comparison to other games.

It was really strange playing ESO which was 20x slower and no over the top effects. So im excited to see its PvP in action. GW2 is a good MMO but it really doesnt suits my style. I dont like the races and i hate effects that is just thrown in there.

My point was that teams are playing outside of bonus week each day. It's still dead, no argument there, but less dead than 9 month ago.^^ I also think there are way more than 20 people doing RA at a time. But I don't want this hassle anymore. I don't have good data to back my argument, neither have you and you might be right in gw2 having more people in pvp right now. GW2 had an increase with the reward changes lately. I rewrite my argument to: GW2 has a way lower spvp activity compared to the actual player numbers than gw1 right now. If gw1 continues to regrow then my first point might become right and can be backed up with raw data but that isn't really possible by now.

GW2 has rumoured something to 200-300k concurrent players although i'd be hard pressed to find information past near release (which was about 400k and devs have kept saying the playerbase is only growing.) To say 5% of that are playing PvP is a very low estimate and still equates to 10k. 200-300k isnt exactly a large number for such a successful MMO either and its believable with the amount of activity (albeit outside sPvP). Im going to check out GW1 again though, hoping what you're saying about the PvP is true.

GWGApok's channel has nothing past 2011 Check his channel by playlist - there were a few more events that were recorded after that. I can't remember why we stopped doing them before GW2 came out, although the low viewer count probably didn't help.

http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/c2/medium/display_looks.php I know they are white, red and black (duuh) but the exact names would be pretty helpful. Also, since the actual armor is lvl 60, i would have to use the transmute stone right?
