Even though I have Skyrim, I came back to BG2. It shows how great of a masterpiece this is...the game is over 10 years old and I'm still playing it! Guys, if you tinker with Spells, it's really fun. Make your own spells. I made a level 9 Dragon summoning spell. Or a spell that is very similar to Irenicus's instant kill spell. No save, bypass resistance, overpowered yes, but it's perfect for the demi-god all powerful sorcerer I roleplay as. If you tinker with Kits, it's a bit harder to do, but edit .2da files using IE. I edited my kensai kit that gives free stoneskin usage many times a day, level 1% magic resist per level, and immunity to death magic, stun, and level drain. I'm using this kit to solo ascension / scsii. It's incredibly fun :D

The Irenicus spell is cheating. The kit is not. Playing as a normal kensai with no ascension / scsii with a party is much easier than soloing with a improved kensai kit with ascension/scsii. Mages in scsii are just insane. I see a lich every freaking dungeon I go to

We will each play only one character. Started with a multi thief-mage and a multi fighter-cleric. SCS is hard! We couldn't even kill Silke! Apparently she is around lvl8... What is great about this game is that we don't have to look at it through our nostalgia goggles. It as great now as it was 10 years ago!

As far as i recall, it only gave 1(!) bonus attack per round? Of course thats still 1 more than normal, and a kensai wouldn't use a shield anyway. But until it's maxed out (-2, -2 TAC0 with a small off-hand?), you'd probably be better of using only 1 weapon. disregard all this in case the kensai had some random dual wield bonus. I basicly only played monks for fighter types in BG2. Anyway: if you are completly new, i'd disregard dualclassing. Fighter types are probably easiest to start with, but anything single-class can get you through the game without much chance of getting stuck due to ie bad lvling choices in the multiclass.

I do not understand many of these D and D terms. Very different from modern rpgs I am used to. Is there a guide that can be helpful for a complete newbie? edit: damn was confused why imoen couldnt cast her spells. turns out mages cant wear armor when casting. wtf very interesting!

Anyways i had a specific question how do you use the "ease-of-use AI" mod? I picked it for all my chars, but duno how to toggle the different settings. Pushing S like it says doesnt change anything for auto buffing. actually scratch that it started working all of a sudden

Dual wilding is strong WHEN you skill it, else you shouldn't do it. Kensai/Mage is very powerfull but NOT easy. This is a huge diffrence in BG2. Easy are Warriors, Barbarians, Monks, Rangers and Thieves... Most other classes just "smack you over the head with a giant spellbook" . If you want to dig into it, go for something that can cast.. But if it's your first AD&D game i would go with something "easy".

guys quick question. i am making a kensai mage *i heard it was newb friendly) and i have 6 proficiency points to use. do i put 5 into katana and one into dual wield? thanks! just found out about this and looks good so far! A Kensai/Mage is very dependant on equipment , so for a beginner who might not know how to get things like Celestial Fury , Robe of Vecna or the Ring of Gaxx its not an ideal choice. It has already been mentioned that fighters are a good starter class since they play pretty straigth up. I also feel that Clerics are good for newbies , you dont have to find spell scrolls , and you can summon some pretty overpowerd monsters later. (improved skeletons , air servant , deva)

reminds me of how much i hate later installations of DnD, as in Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1+ On February 14 2012 12:03 Golgotha wrote: thank you. after reading a bit more this game seems very complicating. Yes, the system is very restrictive. What you just found out is exactly the reason why kensai/mage is a good combo, though. Min/maxing was a fun thing for me to do in the given rules; others find their fun playing in less than ideal combinations (or even with some terribly bad stats). However; the first playthrough in general was very entertaining for me; all before i started messing around and optimizing things.

is the game strategic? if I do not cast the correct spells and make the correct move (just playing blindly by attacking with attack spells and weapons), will I not get far? I hope so, i am tired of easy cookie cutter rpgs.
