They have simply outclassed other 6 drops/midrange strategies since they have come in M11, all five have seen plenty of play and have varied between being powerful in the format and not seen much. Only top end card that comes close to them is Elesh.
Grave Titan has seen play in UB control, and GB ramp, Inferno in Frites and RG ramp, Sun Titan has seen play in various esper decks that while not very good have been played with their little sun titan my phantasmal stuff, Primeval in every single one of the G/x ramp decks, and Frost is the only loner without a home these last few weeks, months. Three of the Five made top 8 of the last pro tour.

The problem is that most decks in the format kill you or put you dead by T6. R/G aggro and various delver decks will tempo out anyone banking on Titans. Once the format slows down (which it hopefully will with AVR and/or M13), the Titans will be back in business assuming they're reprinted.
|
It has nothing to do with their current place in the metagame it has to do with the fact they trump other cards of similar roles and you cant play a midrangish strategy because of them(primeval has been making midrange decks sad for like 2 years now).. They aren't being reprinted(at least in m13), this has already been stated by wizards at some point. They want something new and fresh in there spot.

Avacyn is a huge bomb. Definitely going to make a commander deck with her.
Also reanimate decks got a bit better, luckily she can still be tragic slipped.

So I've been toying with this Boros Humans thing and I'm starting to love it more and more. People at my store are so afraid of it they actually are main decking answers to it. Hellrider might be one of the most underrated cards in the game right next to Rally the Peasants. The life swings involved are just insane.
Here's my updated list: + Show Spoiler + 4x Champion of the Parish 4x Doomed Traveler 3x Thalia 4x Mirran Crusader 2x Hero of Bladehold 4x Hellrider 2x Mikaeus
4x Lingering Souls 4x Rally the peasants 3x Brimstone Volley 4x Gather the townsfolk
4x Clifftop Retreat 4x Isolated Chapel 4x Mountain 2x Evolving Wilds 8x Plains
Sideboard 2x Dismember 3x Timely Reinforcements 3x Celestial Purge 2x Divine offering 2x Surgical Extraction 3x Gut Shot
The only issues I've had with it are the fringe Infect decks. if you get a nut hand you out race them easily but anything mediocre and you cant keep up at all.

Again all of those were flavor of the month decks. None of them (excluding ramp but that's more of Huntmaster) are format defining at this point. I already said Primeval is pretty much the only one that sees consistent play. Sun Titan if anyone has bothered testing Esper decks is ass in it outside of a control mirror. Misers 1 or 2 ofs isn't format defining, again PT is the exception.
They are just meh at this point. They were bland after Cawblade came into being and were even more bland after Splinter Twin. Post-rotation just put the nail in the coffin, they're not format defining at this point (they don't impact the board enough at all in this T2).
Do they always have homes? Sure they do, but it's not like you have any OTHER good 6 drops to even consider. I don't remember the last time I considered a 5 or 7 in control builds where I am like lets play the Titan because of the Titan factor. Like can you remember the last time a 5 to 7 that was just good (outside of Elesh or Karn if you want to include him in the discussion)? Like think about it, if you didn't have access to Titans or just refuse to play them, what are your alternatives? Would you suddenly start playing Myr Battlesphere or Thopter Assembly or Drogskol Reaver? Most likely not. The Titans are tops by more or less default right now, but hardly format defining outside PT and that was more due to Eldrazi, Valkut and Wolf-run (which again is Huntmaster at this point and stands perfectly fine alone without PT).
Edit:
Avacyn, limited bomb, that's about it. You can't play something like that in a format dominated by Delver.

Might see play as a singleton in Frites, but probably not since Elesh Norn is better most of the time. Legacy it won't see play because the removal of choice is STP.
Seems like a great card for commander, but won't see any tournament play, except maybe limited, but considering it costs more than Moldgraf Monstrosity it might prove to be hard to cast, and Army of the Damned will probably still be a better 8 mana win game card, aside from the fact that you don't have ISD in the draft format. So it will really depend on how the overall set comes out.
|
Singleton in Frites only if the format moves over to board sweepers.
|
I dunno if she'd even be all that good in Limited. Depends on what AVR draft looks like, I suppose. There won't be Tragic Slip, Sever the Bloodline, Fiend Hunter, Silent Departure...blah blah blah.

Its an 8 drop I win the game because lets face it, unless you are putting up massive amounts of pressure. You aren't surviving something that gives itself and others indestructibility. Sure you might not be docked for 8 in the air, but what about all the other creatures that suddenly are near impossible to deal with to get through. Now you have to play through her first and then play through the rest of their board.
All said and done. I want to play her with Divine Reckoning in block Reanimator.

Just reading these last posts, I always hate to remember I dropped MTG, but it is too much money to keep up T_T

I don't really think it costs that much, if you have a good store and have good friends you can all normally share cards, you have to have some really good friends who you can trust though. And really if you're good enough as a player and have a decent deck you should be able to make it back in cards or packs.
I know last FNM, we drew for 1st and second and split $20 when we only paid $5. Dump those into things like the Innistradt duals and you should make your money back ezpz.

Whatevs, you'd probably win three-quarters of your game where you untap with an 8 drop.
How happy would you be playing her before combat into an opponent with any open mana? Obviously, it depends on the cards in Avacyn Restored.

Anyone playing in a cube draft today?

Draft Red. Stupid strong.

I am so stupid. During a draft today, I forgot about MidnightGuard's ability to untap when another creature enters the field. Number one, I didn't realize it was any creature. And this cost me a game, as I didn't have enough blockers even though I did.
Another mistake was that I forgot Feral Ridgewolf had trample, which crushed my chump blocker with enough damage. I just blocked wrong...
Anyways, these two mistakes unfortunately took me out of the prizes. And I don't want it to happen again.
What do you guys do that make sure that you guys don't forget about abilities. The wolf mistake happened after the 50 minutes were up and I was on the clock (i.e. between the two of us, we have 5 turns to complete or it becomes a draw). The other mistake was me rushing it because I only have 5 minutes left in the 2nd game, and since I lost, had 5 minutes to play the 3rd game (didn't finish, ended up as a draw).
Any helps/tips would be greatly appreciated. ^^

Any helps/tips would be greatly appreciated. ^^ At the start of turn, look at your hand and look at the board. Read everything. Once you have read everything, then determine your lines of play. Double check your lines of play will actually work.
Of course, if you're running out of time then this might not be possible to do everything so thoroughly. But it's a good habit to get in to. Also, playing more means you'll just pick up things like just keying into certain cards when they're in play.
If you're up in a series and time is running out, you can also stall the game so time runs out and you're awarded the win overall. You're never forced to rush your game just because time is running out. And if you know you can't win within, say, 3 minutes there's no reason to do something super risky just to close out the game, especially if you're ahead in the series. If your opponent is trying to rush you, ignore them. Now, I'm not saying you should intentionally slow play just to stall and get a win. That can be a warning/infraction. But if you legit can stall the game and don't throw that's fine. So for example, you may make what would be a "bad play", such as using a trick you have as a 1 for 1 instead of a 2 for 1. You might use your creature's abilities even when they won't actually do anything (e.g. Maybe tap an Avacyn's Pilgrim for mana at the end of your opponent's turn and not use the mana just to use time). In the case of the 5 turn thing for example, if you know you can't win then just find a line of play that means you don't die in 5 turns and do it. Don't let your opponent rush you and if you're ever uncertain about something ask to read their card in play or ask a judge about how a rule works.

That doesn't work online because he'd just run out his own timer before his opponent.

Just take a bit more time when stuff happens on the board to not miss it. The midnignt guard one is particularly bad to happen because its not optional (not a 'may') so missing it is a violation of rules, even if youre the one being penalized in game for it. At competitive events this is a warning if you or your opponent catch it and the judge is called.
The other important thing to remember is you dont have to rush a game ever, no matter how much your opponent is asking for it. Unless you play unreasonnably slow or worse, intentionally slow down as time runs out, you are under no obligation to speed up your play. Of course there are cases where you would rather do so like your second example, but you never are forced to by the rules. Please dont however do that Avacyn pilgrim thing I saw above, this is clearly intentional stalling and you will be penalized faster than y ou can say Tomoharu Saitou
