Painters Servant adds a color to cards. So it will be a timestamp issue.
R card with Devoid => Painter (Name U) = Devoid card that is U
Painter (naming U) => Give R card Devoid = colorless UR card
R creature Devoid + Humility => Painters (Naming U) => R creature
Eldrazi => Painters (naming U) => humble => U eldrazi
Eldrazi + R Devoid Creature => Humility => Colorless Eldrazi + R creature

I wouldn't be surprised if they finally reprinted ghostfire from future sight.
|
The thing is, IMO Ghostfire misses on both flavour connections (eldrazi =/= "ghosts") and power level IMO. So while they could print similar cards (devoid spells), I'd be a bit surprised if ghostfire itself saw a reprint. Its obviously not impossible though.
Not all future sight cards are slated for a reprint lol.

Ghostfire is a pretty bad card now that they won't be printing circle of protection: red anymore.

Not all future sight cards are slated for a reprint lol. Instant speed 3 mana for 3 damage is still perfectly acceptable for Limited. It's not "good", but perfectly within the power level of what WotC would print. Even recent sets have cards of similar power level. Hell, Lightning Javelin is 3R for 3 damage + scry 1 at sorcery speed.
The flavor disconnect is a bigger deal.

The trend is this so far.
1cc = 2 damage + bonus 2cc = 2 damage instant + bonus OR 3 damage instant OR 3 damage sorcery + bonus (bonus can be more damage) 3cc = 3 damage instant + bonus
Ghostfire is perfectly fitting in power, but its still a useless constructed card--which is what I think he is talking about.

Sure, but like 90% of what WotC prints is useless in constructed.

Ghostfire is Ugin flavoured and it doesn't look like Ugin will appear until Zendikar part 2, so not until then at least.

Exactly: Ghostfire is Ugin's flame (see flavor text): + Show Spoiler +Only those gifted with the eye of Ugin, the spirit dragon, can see his fiery breath.
If he shows up, it will.

In case people didn't know
Ugin's +2 is him casting Ghostfire...

Color-changing effects are in layer 5, while all ability-adding and ability-removing effects are in layer 6.

Is there some simplified explanation somewhere of the layer system?

There is no easy explanation for the layer system.

The layer system is basically"stuff applies in a specific order, good luck remembering!"

"They layer in a specific order, depending on what layer is being affected and what order the effects came into play, and depending on whose priority it is that is determining the sequence in relation to the sources of the state based effects/triggers affecting said layers--good luck remembering"

Wasn't Ghostfire what Chandra used to open the hedrons originally? From a flavour perspective it makes perfect sense for that to show up in Zendikar, considering the first time it was cast was on Zendikar.

Chandra stole the scroll with Ghostfire written on it and memorised it. When Jace and Chandra reached the Eye of Ugin, they were attacked by a Sarkhan who had gone mad due to Bolas. Nothing was hurting him, so Chandra cast Ghostfire at him as a last ditch attempt. The presence of the 3 Planeswalkers and the casting of Ugin's Ghostfire mirrored the original creation of the original lock (the Eye itself) and therefore released the Eldrazi. The card itself was from Future Sight though.

Alrighty, I am actually looking to get back into playing mtg. So I did some searching about; holy smokes are cards expensive these days. Does anyone have recommendations on what kind of more control-y deck I could play in Legacy/Extended without breaking the bank too much?
