There are no coincidences in Business just look at what Nintendo did when they unveiled the Wiimote and Sony and Microsoft were caught totally unaware and had to rush out their own versions of it and failed miserably. What if Nintendo and Sony are working together in the sense that they will cut off Microsoft from one of the most popular and valuable IP's for a while. I mean Cloud is in Smash Bros... would be amazing if confirmed. Anyway here's some new Zelda: BoTW gameplay from Gamescom 2016.

I think this sort of stuff is a little different for the industry: there really aren't secrets one can keep from eachother, at least at a certain level. Everyone knows the fundament of the NX is going to be modularity, and if not then the highest-ups know what it's going to be. Because it's "their job," as Stardock's Frogboy told us when he said Civ6 was coming. I think it's more about profit and loss. Sony and Microsoft weren't caught off guard by the thing itself, but instead by its rousing success. Anyways, thanks for the video. :3

Nintendo’s next gaming system could lack region-locking, allowing owners to buy and play games from any country, according to new reports. Let’s Play Video Games cites sources with knowledge of the console, known only as NX for now, who say that early development kits can run software from any region. That would be a major if small change from Nintendo’s earlier home consoles. Wii U, Wii, GameCube and beyond can only play games from their region of origin, meaning American gamers have had to miss out on games like Captain Rainbow, Disaster: Day of Crisis and Doshin the Giant. These and other Nintendo-published titles skipped the U.S. but had Japanese and European launches. If the NX system can run any region’s titles, it would allow fans to import exclusive games that skipped their home countries. Prior to Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo’s handhelds have traditionally been region-free as well. (That means imported copies of Mother 3 and Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupee Land are playable on any compatible hardware.) The NX is rumored to be a portable system, and Let’s Play Video Games’ latest report says the dockable hardware could be slightly thicker than a Nintendo 3DS XL. (That’s with its expected detachable controllers attached.) Still, Nintendo hasn’t called it a successor to the 3DS — or Wii U, for that matter. That’s because we still know next to nothing about what the codename NX system actually is. Despite rumors and reports piling on on a regular basis, Nintendo has not confirmed any details about its next gaming system. Everything we know about NX, beyond its existence, March 2017 launch window and handful of titles, is speculative or unconfirmed. We hope to know more later this fall. Source

TOKYO—Mario the plumber pulled off two global publicity coups within three weeks, taking a starring role at the Rio Olympic Games’ closing ceremony and at Apple Inc.’s latest iPhone introduction. Now comes what may be the mustachioed videogame hero’s most difficult feat: boosting profit at the company that created the character, Nintendo Co. The Kyoto-based videogame maker sent the creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, to Apple’s event Wednesday in San Francisco, where he stood beside Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook and announced “Super Mario Run.” The free-to-download action game, to be released for Apple devices by December, has a flavor similar to that of the original console series and is optimized for smartphones. A version for Google parent Alphabet Inc.’s Android operating system is also planned. On Thursday, Nintendo shares jumped 13% to ¥27,955 ($274.77) in Tokyo trading. Investors have long called on Nintendo to take its popular game franchises to smartphones as a way to cover declines in its console business. Nintendo has struggled to stay profitable in recent years. The Mario smartphone game should bring in revenue quickly for Nintendo because players have to pay if they want to enjoy all of the game’s levels. While Nintendo didn’t release pricing plans, smartphone versions of popular console games from companies such as Square Enix Holdings Co. generally cost roughly $10 to $20. Even more important is the publicity, because Nintendo is preparing to start selling a new console code-named NX by next March. The willingness of Mr. Miyamoto, a legend among videogame fans, to appear on stage with the head of the company that is partly responsible for Nintendo’s troubles shows how the Japanese company needs to expose its characters to consumers who aren’t currently videogame devotees, and lure them to Nintendo game consoles and software. In addition to casual clothing and a luxury watch featuring Nintendo characters, Nintendo has teamed up with Universal Parks & Resorts, a unit of Comcast Corp. “Smartphone games, theme-park projects and all other character-licensing deals are just a marketing tool for Nintendo to let people become interested in its console games,” said Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Research Institute. The iPhone game announcement was the second surprise after the Summer Olympics closing ceremony, when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared as Mario, popping up on a stage in the plumber’s hat of the popular character. The idea for Mr. Abe’s stunt came not from Nintendo but from organizers of the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, said a spokeswoman for the organizing committee. She said the committee had “no idea” the iPhone game was in the works and simply chose Mario as a globally recognizable symbol of Japan. The challenge now for Nintendo is leveraging all the attention into sales of the next-generation NX console, which it has said will go on sale by March. The company hasn’t given any details on the NX, but people familiar with the matter say it is likely to be designed for use both as a living-room console hooked up to a television and as a portable device to carry around town. Analysts said they expect Nintendo to release NX details by early October. Source

Indeed, people are getting mad ! But I'm starting to understand them, I mean come on Nintendo... If we don't hear anything about the console before/at the investor call by the end of the month, I'll start to get really worried !

Nintendo will end Wii U production this Friday, multiple sources have confirmed to Eurogamer. At the last official count, as of 30th September, Nintendo had shipped 13.36m Wii U consoles. The Wii U's final tally will likely now be only slightly more. For comparisons sake, GameCube sold 21m. N64 sold 32m. Wii sold 101m. Nintendo's Japanese production line will shut down for the last time this week after the final deadline for orders passed yesterday, Eurogamer understands. Only a small number of further orders were placed. Source
