I have quite recently stumbled upon this amazing looking game. It isn't even out yet, but it is insanely popular, and you can probably tell why from the trailer.
From what i can tell by watching the videos currently out there are elements from many different games and genres implemented such as Minecraft(building and destroying blocks), Metroid/Mario style platforming and fighting, rare treasure to find akin to a roguelike, and much more. People have been calling it a "2-D ripoff of minecraft", but that is to compare apples and oranges: even Notch the creator of minecraft has stated this.
Just wanted to share this up and coming gem with the community and hopefully in the near future everyone can enjoy it!
If you want more info on the game, the main developer website(as well as FAQs) are here:
Been following this for a couple weeks. It looks like awesome fun with a friend or two. Can't wait for it to be released.
As for a general analysis of the game - the Minecraft comparison is pretty central, as the game shares the resource collection, easy item crafting and sandbox building factors. That being said though, this game is far more action-focused than Minecraft, which I feel will bring a lot to the game. With combat taking a cental part of gameplay, the gaming pace increases a lot, which will probably make this a far more intense game experience than that of Minecraft.
Blood Moon siege nights and boss fights also seems fun, although it seems this game doesn't really have many ways of dealing with enemies aside from the obvious hack and slash-method. It could learn from titles such as Dwarf Fortress in its trap system and siege attack / boss spawns to add some variety to combat.
Still though, I'm looking forward to this game a lot.
This game is brilliant. I'm getting a copy as soon as I can.
The only thing I'd like to see would be Dwarf Fortress-esque mechanics, but considering that the game isn't as in depth as DF, and the worlds don't seem to be aimed at lasting as long as a DF fort can (before you encounter more !!Fun!!) I don't know if that would fit into the game style anyway. Still, I can't wait for this game.

Hah...not really, I just thought it was such a cool game that i'd spread it around. The developers did put their heart into it after all.
I think the game looks cool from the let's plays that are out there but honestly I don't see how anyone could say the game is like Minecraft. To me that would be like saying Portal is like Call of Duty because they both have guns of some kind and are first person. Terreria is more of an RPG game then a sandbox game.
Also the game got featured on BlueXephos which is why your seeing posts about it all over the place. BlueXephos is the minecraft equivalency of Husky and HD.

game looks great though.
Really? I have heard that there are viruses claiming to be the game, but I still haven't seen proof of it being leaked. If it was leaked I would expect to see youtube videos of people having it.
The game looks great and i'm probably going to buy it as soon as i can.
EDIT: I take that back. I'm pretty sure it's been leaked now.
Excited its coming out a lot sooner than expected. It should also be noted that Blue, the "community manager" is a huge starcraft fan. Bonus points for that!
Wow, a lot sooner than expected, annoying for me since I have exams for another week still after its release so i'm just going to have to resist the urge to jump on. Good price point too.
Where are you guys seeing it on Steam? It isn't showing up for me. But I am extremely excited about this game as well. Should be pretty fun. Been following a LP on it and it looks pretty interesting.

I think Steam is what pushed this decision. They did the whole beta release on Impulse, which Impulse (stardock games platform) doesn't mind, but I don't think steam allows for games to be sold "incomplete". However since they did the move, tons of people asked if it was gonna be a Steam release.
They must have felt they had a sufficient good product to sell even if they will keep working on it. So they just changed the label to full release so steam would allow it.
