I think bow ranger was under represented in these races cause they don't have the DPS to deal with all these beyond packs and bosses? I think the issue I ran into with bow builds at league start is early on worst case you're just a bit slower than other builds. Fine. But if your drops suck in cruel then A4C becomes really, really rough. I guess mayyyybe traps are a solution to that? Just to make sure EK or Caustic Arrow are still ass for levelling, right? Those are the only dex skills that come to mind that scale heavily based on gem level and with projectile nodes. i leveled a blade vortex pathfinder last league as my first character and it was fine with 0 dmg nodes
I tried SSF blade vortex once, it was horrible horrible experience for me, I really hated keeping blades up, and it didn't feel super safe. Maybe just didn't fit my play style very well, and I think my ascendancy choice was poor, but was messing around alot

@evo: all the way to merc lake. true that duration nodes work as dmg nodes for bv, forgot about that. i mean u can just buy a unique bow at lvl 50 that carries u to maps unless u stay self found for the whole league?

it's not the most pleasant skill to use with low castspeed and a very different playstyle to most builds. the single target is great tho for bosses like dominus and izaro where u can get stacks up before they spawn.

I was planning on doing something like trickster blade vortex. Is there a good blade vortex tree someone can link me plz, and is trickster decent for it (gonna be hardcore so want that delicious ev/es)!
I will be there on launch and for a while after, i think the 2nd week or so of the league ill be on vacation for a week but that wont mess with our typical day 1 shenanis.

lads even reddit is rising up against atlas
what is <our> official stance on the new expansion?
|
my stance is still that the endgame was already great and getting there isn't improving nor is the passive tree changing in a way that rekindles my theorycrafting fire. So a decidedly meh update before factoring in the perfectly reasonable issues presented about map progression under the atlas building system
On the plus side, +100% map drop rate is the kind of thing that i like to see although I'm worried it's going to end up completely counteracted by some seriously misled GGG changes
|
isnt the entire expansions map system revamp basically a misled GGG change
|
On August 25 2016 06:50 wubskis wrote: isnt the entire expansions map system revamp basically a misled GGG change not really it's just that it highlights very strongly the issues that already exist with the map system
|
would that mean that GGG are exposing their own incompetence
in general im casual in terms of poe so id probably end up doing whatever maps i get and inadvertently filling out my atlas
in reality unless you are going for the new monkey pet challenge there seems to be absolutely no reason to use the atlas unless you arent aware of what it really does
ultimately i cant wait for the retrospective news post
i just want to play my stupid meme build i planned out for the new league so it doesnt bother me that much i guess xd
|
I mean, the atlas is strictly free shit if you play as normal except that I'm pretty sure it casually fucks over +2 drops until you've already got to those tier of maps.
The adding mods to a group of maps part is kinda cool and totally a reason to use it, as is the pumping up one map to +5 tier.
It's not a bad concept considering how awful the maps system is now, its just that it doesn't really address that so much as punish players for just playing.
|
On August 25 2016 07:02 Sn0_Man wrote:punish players for just playing.
this is my concern i guess, plus the fact that they have removed the potential for +2 tier drops off the bat without 'restricted' progression
i suppose their flat % chance to drop maps up completion would in theory make up for this, but an opinion cant really be formed until the expansion has been played at least a little to see whats up
all i wanna do is play my dumbass meme build and quit once i realise its bad like i do every league and talk with the lads in the meantime, so i dont think this is going to affect me specifically
but its still a bizarre pigeonholing masquerading as content/progression thats gonna fuck with the endgame in a way a lot of people arent gonna figure out until its too late because of the whole account-binding thing
|
I can't help but feel like the Atlas was character-specific up until a certain point late in development, when people realized that was an awful idea that would build a not-insubstantial amount of tedium.
So they made it account-wide, not realizing that without substantial adjustment that would be an awful idea that would also result in a not-insubstantial amount of tedium.
Also, the "completing a map without pathing to it unlocks the map" reeks of a change that was hastily made.
I don't really buy the "poor noobie players are going to ruin their atlas" chants though, it doesn't matter until you're unlocking high yellow/low red maps which tilesets you get, and if you've gotten there I think you'll have at least looked at the Atlas section of the site and figured it out.

Restricting myself to only certain maps in the name of playing the same map over and over and over... and over, because its layout will be me +/- 2% more or less experience is something I am never going to do. But I guess we will see I guess, I haven't looked too closely at whats out there yet.
|
ideally flexibility would be nice but if account-binding is the way theyre going i dont know whats gonna happen to "boss killers" and "the rest" in terms of builds
just gonna get some money then play my dumbass ek build and quit when its shit xd

e: oops missed some stuff

But I guess we will see I guess, I haven't looked too closely at whats out there yet. To me it boils down to the amount of fun maps pretty much. If my options are to run an equal amount of Academy, Crema, Precinct, Springs for example or ten Springs in a row I'll probably pick the latter.
+/- 2% xp is a crazy conservative estimate by the way. If we presume the current distribution in terms of relative amount of maps per tier stays correct we can easily push 3x more of the maps we enjoy compare to right now.
If we compare an optimized Atlas against an unoptimized one (with the current system as a baseline) the question is do I want 20% more maps total or do I want 300% more Springs while losing the ability to do the other 3 maps of the tier?

On August 25 2016 08:45 r.Evo wrote:do I want 300% more Springs
i suppose this is my concern, its forcing peoples hands despite offering the potential of freedom
edit: thats the whole game i guess

god damn it they did remove +2 maps while climbing man fuck ggg sometimes

If only the margin was anywhere near that small. :/
Last league, when I was pressing for 90, I ran 3 Bazaar maps to get 3%, 3% and 4% of my xp bar, then I dropped a Gorge from the last one and got the last 5% I needed to level and the first 5% of my next level from just one map (all had a single packsize mod). Some maps are just abysmally bad. :/
I'm really hoping they fixed the gross disparity between the good and bad maps when they were reordering everything. >.>

well, i guess you could theoretically farm div cards by only opening up certain maps
