The best use of +proj +aoe that I can think of off the top of my head has to be Lightning arrow + chain and KB wander, although it's probably overkill for that use-case anyway and those builds are mostly searching for a single target solution now that frostwall got nerfed. I guess fireball builds (ruby flask for reflect xd) but blech, seems bad as ranger flaskfinder.
maybe a CoC/CoMK build where you spam a bunch of spells? Throw on VMS with scold's for extra dakka.
The idea is to use Mjolner in another way that is about Lightning and seem fun. Since I will not be using Discharge (like everyone else) I need to find another way to do good damage and that is like always - Criticals. So I will be (ab)using Mjolner to try to get 10 Arc castings per second (due to Mjolner at maximum being able to activate every 100ms). Since critical hits is my main power and weapon only has 3 slots I cannot fit usually things like Lightning Penetration due to need to have Increased Critical Strikes and Increased Critical Damage. So here comes a useful ascendancy class - Inquisitor.
Inevitable Judgement is Inquisitor skill which says that my Critical Hits ignore enemy elemental resistances. So each my of critical hits does lots of damage, always does it at full damage and shocks. Shocks is very important part of this because I will be using Mind of the Council which recovery 3% of max mana each time I shock which will be very often and works super well with keystone passive Mind Over Matter. That mask also solves my reflect problems due to its 30% of Lightning damage is done to Mana first.
In addition to this my plan is to use Orb of Storms together with Power Charge on Critical+ Increased AoE and Life Leech. This will have triple purpose: give PCs, leech life and do more shocks that give me more 3% max mana. Also a good tool to give me mana if my mana does get depleted and I cannot use my attack. And of course it will be a big DPS boost vs bosses and 3+ essence enemies due to its ability to attack as many times as my Arc activates... so 10 more attacks per second +what it usually does....
So how will I activate my Arc enough times to get 10 per 1s? This is where I just use best practice from Discharge builds. For masses Lightning Strike and for boss fights Molten Strike.
--> If you guys notice obvious error in my logic do tell. Nothing is set in stone.
Armor 6L: G(Lightning Strike)+G(Add Acc)+G(Chain)+R(MultiStrike)+R(LifeGain on Hit)+G(FasterAttacks) - vs mobs or G(GreaterMultipleProjectiles)+G(FasterAttacks)+G(Add Acc)+R(MultiStrike)+R(MoltenStrike)+G(LesserMultipleProjectiles) - vs bosses - for 5L I would not use last slot on the list - LGoH+Chain will let me get lots of life from enemies with 20% quality high level LGoH - Molten Strike is better for bosses as additional projectiles all fall near and will all hit the boss. - Additional Accuracy is needed if I want to keep my hit chance at 90%+ which is kind of important for this build.
Mjolner 3L: Arc+Increased Critical Damage+Increased Critical Strikes - I could switch Increased Critical Strikes with Spell Echo if that works in this combinations and has a purpose because two activations of Arc per 100ms = equals double crit chance where Increased Critical Strikes would only give me up to 50% increase
Shield 3L: Shield Charge+Faster Attacks + Fortify
4L: Orb of Storms+PCoC+Increased AOE+Life Leech
4L: Blasphemy+Assassin's Mark+Enfeeble+Enduring Cry - AssM is so I don't need to slow down my clear speed by using Orb of Storms all the time, also the crit chance and crit damage is noticeable; Enduring Cry is always useful for the tougher fights where I cannot just facetank from start until end but need to run around a bit first. Enfeeble is well Enfeeble
4L: CastOnDamageTaken+Immortal Call+Summon Flame Golem+Increased Duration - or I can use Summon Ice Golem to get an accuracy and crit chance boost although I would like damage boost more
---> If you got suggestions on how to better use my slots for this build do tell. Or if I missed some skill that would be much more useful. Or just a skill I can swap for boss fights like I plan to do in my body armor slot.
For this build I have chosen 3 key unique items: Mjölner - key to build working, costs 25-30c Mind of the Council - key to my plan about using MoM and critical hits/shock to keep mana filled as well as reducing danger of reflect Atziri's Foible - the +100 to all stats one is super expensive, this one I can afford and it does give maximum mana which I can use for my build
In addition there are a few unique items I could add that have both benefits and penalty: Saffell's Frame - this one is commonly used with Mjolner Discharge builds but it has weaker damage boost for my build and gives pathetic ES Malachai's Loop - using this one would give me a good ES boost and I would not need PCoC and could replace that with something else but due to number of attacks/casts I will be doing I would just end up shocked all the time and give everyone a free 50% damage boost vs me. Doryani's Invitation, Lightning version - this one I am mostly thinking about using from this group of non required unique items. Gives me both Str, Lightning damage and 2 resists and gives a small lightning life leech. Con is that with a normal Str belt I can get double Str and Life boost as well as other nice stats. Voidbringer - kind of massive critical chance boost and I could put Orb of Storms in that slot for a "free" damage boost and that ES it gives is nice. The 80% more cost could be a problem, this is one of those items I would need to try out for a while when I am at higher levels and already kind of setup. Also Rare gloves can give me large accuracy, life boost and resistance boost and I would lose that Another options for gloves is Asenath's Gentle Touch - stats it gives are not super useful but due to my fast hitting everyone and everything everyone would be under Temporal Chains all the time. I could remove Enfeeble from my build and replace it with Herald of Thunder or Arctic Armor or something else. Cons are that in addition to low stats given by this item, how much real gain do I get by slowing enemies by only 20%?!
----> If you guys got suggestions about gear you are welcome to share. Just don't suggest things that cost more than 1-2 chaos. Mjolner already costs me most of my wealth and I also need to buy a lot of quality skill gems. I hope that by the time I hit high levels I will get enough new chaos to buy good rare items for rest of my slots.
Most of it is self explanatory, also note that this is most optimized version I could do for lvl 81, after that I got many more good options. Two things I didn't mention before in this build presentation is that I took Eldritch Battery and 4 jewel slots. I found you can get jewels that give +3 energy shield per hit, if I put those in all 4 slots (and more in future) I get 12 ES per hit and both LS+Chain+MultiStrike and Molten Strike+GMP+MultiStrike will do a lot of hits. Of course taking EB is going to be a move I will do as late as possible and I will remove it if it will not work out. EB+Jewels I stole from another guy doing Mjolner Discharge build, he had no problems keeping his ES topped up with MoltenStrike vs bosses.
---> If I did obvious error or missed critical stuff do tell. Nothing is set in stone but for once I would like to make a character that I know how the tree is going to look from start until the end.
I put a lot of thought and effort into this build and this post. Please do leave your comments/suggestions.
Don't tell me to switch to Discharge because that one is much better, I know it is, that is not the point here. I am trying to make a viable build, not the best one possible. I have seen the videos of Discharge builds, it is pretty broken, probably strongest build I seen.
I would try to get rid of the Additional Accuracy. You can definitely get by with accuracy on gear and Ice Golem - you can do that on CoC builds where accuracy is tested twice, you can surely do it with Mjolner.
And you don't need to get too cute with uniques, solid rares are no joke.
You can get accuracy from a lot of sources. Just slap additional accuracy onto your jewelry with Elreon. For gloves you'd probably shoot for something with a curse on hit corruption, though that will be more expensive. Call of the Brotherhood is a fun option for a ring, though not sure if worth.
Ice golem over flame golem.
I assume you meant to grab sovereignty (the aura notable)? Would be nice to work in celestial judgement/ punishment, not sure what to drop for it though. I'm not sure if you want MoM, you aren't picking up a lot of mana, so not sure if worth.
Tnx for suggestions so far. Let me try to answer them. @Lachrymose Of course I am not married to it, but I will at least keep it leveled up in case I need it. If I can get my mapping gear with good accuracy I can easily remove AAcc and put in something else. I do plan to have over 90% hit chance, this build needs to get at least 10 hits per second to connect so I can that 10 Arcs per second and 10 additional Orb of Storm hits. I wonder how the lightshow is going to look :D, in all the Discharge videos I watched they put into Mjolner both Discharge and Arc but because of Discharge explosions you don't even notice Arc :D
@ticklishmusic Call of the Brotherhood seems interesting but it is a 6-9 chaos ring. But when I complete my required unique and quality gem collection I might try to invest extra chaos into this ring and try it out. Not sure if half of the damage even with crit will freeze anyone important, but if this build will not clear enemies fast enough being able to freeze them would help me in defense massively. Yes I would like to get Sovereignty and I might get it over one of the 5% life nodes if during gameplay I notice I need it. I don't need to get huge amounts of mana through passives, I got two uniques that give me max mana and +mana and my Int will be pretty high. Also I can get +mana through equipment. I can tweek mana/life mods I get on equipment as I go along and see how much I am losing. Also don't forget my unique helmet will give me 3% of mana back each time I crit and shock. One of the Discharge builds that uses MoM and EB used all his mana on 4 auras and only uses EB to cast spells and as a bonus defense. Celestial judgement/ punishment is not that useful for the amount of points I need to invest there. I don't need shock chance due to how high my crit is going to be (around 70% with some nice gear) and I certainly don't need lightning penetration as that does not work with Inevitable Judgement.
@Sn0_Man About chest: LS kind of spreads all over and misses a lot, with Chain any hits would find new targets resulting in more activations for Mjolner and more LGoH for me?! At least that was my line of thinking. LS already has 7 bolts, I was thinking each of those chaining 2 times seems like it would give me more hits than adding 4 more projectiles that might or might not hit. LS cannot shotgun? Or is that only an archery limitation? I will have 4 jewels and 12 ES gain per hit in total. I can link you a youtube video of a guy doing similar with Molten Strike face tanking Vaal in high level map with similar setup (I think he also has 4 or 5 jewels with +3 ES gain per hit). As for that passive tree change, yes I would agree with you but I got no clue how I will get enough Strength even now. Maybe I can change the tree to that once I acquire enough Str through equipment? EDIT: Here is the youtube video: Guy only has +14 ES gain on hit
That guy is using es so that he can reserve all his mana you clearly wont be because you are using mana as a life buffer and have a lot of mana regen from shocking things therefore EB and ES are pointless. Plus you can just get mana on hit instead of ES on hit.
Mjolner automatically gives +1 chain to your lightning strike so no need for the gem. If packs aren't dead before that chain is done then that's the least of your worries

No, he uses both MoM and EB. I seen his passive tree in his build (found HERE). The point is to have hits only go 1/3 into ES and 2/3 into health which lets him upkeep ES drain with +14 ES gain per hit. I didn't use all my mana because I am not sure I can do the same and when I get hit by lightning the damage received is going to bigger and for sure go into my mana. I leave about half mana free so I can regenerate both mana and ES at same time also spreading that 1/3 of damage about equal. If while playing I notice my ES is always up, even when fighting vs lightning damage I can try to use more of my mana for auras or Heralds or something. Of course another options is to just not use EB and still top up ES with jewels and let mana take direct hits (this might not work well when faced with Lighting damage). I will be able to find out what works exactly only when I run into Lighting packs in maps.
EDIT: Doesn't Mjölner +1 chain only work on skills that are inside it?! If it works on everything, then I agree, I probably don't need Chain support

Well he uses an expensive armor and expensive amulet. But way he gets ES is same as I would get it. He does not get it any faster than I would. I do understand that I will need to use health pots to heal as I don't have access to that armor. As I said, EB is one point, if it does not work out I will just remove it

I cannot see how it is worth using this helmet. You lose 6 slots and more in stats. You do get 3 "free supports" and can get a 7 gem setup with it.. but still... and those supports are sub 20 and with 0 quality... even for some blocking build, I am sure there are more worthy options.
free 7 link, even if half the gems are not fully leveled fairly tanky - block, enough hp and armor/ev for an ok chest + helmet (though no res), EC generation, blind damage super cheap
for block an aegis aurora build wins, but you can super discount with BoR. plus it looks cool.

There are better items, but you're talking about dropping many exalt for a six link chest and even more exalts for a well rolled helmet. Bringer of Rain is very good and priced in a way that makes it valuable even if it isn't the best.
I'm worried about the sustain from orb of storms, maybe try a Vessel of Vinktar for life/mana leach from lightning damage? Works great with mind over matter as well.

Yeah, that would be his long-term aim and a real game changer. Not sure if he plays that char long enough, but perhaps he gets some lucky drops.
Does anybody else feel like they've silently adjusted map drops down in the last couple of days/week? Like they realised Atlas was way stronger than they thought or something.
I was pretty quickly and comfortably building up red maps this league but lately it's very difficult. And it's not just high tier maps, my low tier maps are getting eaten up by the chisel recipe faster than they replenish which is pretty much absurd.
Rolling maps normally I dropped back to t10. Since then I've been doing alc and go + Perandus and I'm still falling backwards. Currently quickly burning through t9s which just seems ridiculous. This is over the course of hundreds and hundreds of maps.

Is your atlas bonus above 100 yet ? If so I strongly suggest reduce it back to 99.
Plato suddenly got his 40 red maps pool wiped off yday, and my red maps pool also got reduced by 25+ before I did it and suddenly map drop seemed ok again.
